We’ve all had those dreams: you wake up on a table, to blurry, ominous images and the certainty that you are absolutely buck-naked in a room full of strangers. This is not quite it.

Instead, you come awake to the sun on your face. The soft burble of water nearby. The hustle and bustle of a busy street and the faint, fortifying smell of bread. You open your eyes and there’s no one there at your bedside, but there is what appears to be the end of the world happening just beyond your window.

There’s a crack in the world across the sky, the “sun” is the totally unnatural light spilling from that crack straight into your eyes, and someone’s left a neatly pressed and folded uniform at the foot of the bed that isn’t yours. Somewhere in the room, there’s a strange clatter like beads, the click of claws on the floor.

Something’s in here with you.

ONE ♟ Video Killed The Radio Star

Rise and shine, Heroes. It seems that today is filled with good fortune as the morning is very uneventful, aside from the monthly arrival of new comrades. This is the perfect time to grab your weapon, Carrier and uniform and use your time to look around Caissa. While exploring or catching up on the latest gossip, you might blow past the delivery carriages outside of the Hall of Glory, but you certainly won’t be missing the steampunk televisions and vending machines which will be set up around noon time by your lovely maids and butlers! The TVs are placed in every single bedroom as well as leisure rooms so you can enjoy your daily fix of popular cooking show Inferno Kitchen, primetime Cheoksan drama Summer Cantata or the Gammonian hit series Sport of Crowns! The vending machines can be found in the hallways and contain snacks and drinks such as canned mackin’ cheese (or as Noirs like to call it, Lovekraft Supper), Pooky, Cpt. Pepperoni, Mountin' Do, or Eight Up. You are free to come up with your own TV show or vending machine food items.

Thierry Toussaint My dearest Heroes! I hope today finds you well, and for once I bring good news! [ he laughs a little sheepishly. he’s dressed less formally than in previous somber declarations and his hair looks windblown, like he ran here ] As you well know, our recent victories and mostly importantly, a successful alliance with Gammon has brought no small amount of blessings: we have more resources, better manpower, and the invaluable help of our Gammonian colleagues not just in war, but also in advancing our civilization! And so it is my pleasure to unveil our new and improved broadcast technology— [ a pause, where he winks ] —do I look clearer to you? It’s a little harder to tell from this end, I’m afraid. You’ll be able to receive better, brighter and more varied content from our country’s talented producers. Oh… [ another, longer pause. teddy looks offscreen and then laughs ] I’m not getting paid for this, I promise. I don’t need any other motivation to be excited for my country, do I? In addition to the television programs, we will be helping with the release of newly developed vending machine technology that brings fresh and healthy snacks to the streets of our capital, and hopefully, beyond. It would be nice to have one for my office. I’ve mentioned our Gammonian friends, haven’t I? And I’ve saved the best for last: as a token of the friendship between our countries and all that we can do for each other, Gammon has assisted us in completing Platform 40— … 42 and 5/8ths, an instantaneous portal between our very own Caissa and Cochrane. I look forward to even more cultural and commercial exchange from all the way across the Rokirovka Ocean! And ah, speaking of exchange—the Platform has been completed just in time for you, dear Heroes. Gammon has actually extended another invitation to you: as national and international icons and users of magic, they would like you to visit their school of magecraft, Pigeonsblood, in Grant— Grant… [ … ] You will be able to reach the school easily through the Platform! Pigeonsblood’s Headmaster has assured me that you would be a great inspiration to their incoming class of aspiring mages; I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity. Gammon’s knowledge and mastery of magic, as you may have seen during your previous visits, is nothing to take lightly! And if you like what you see, I’m told Gammon would be happy to sponsor classes for Heroes at the school. I’m sure they want to keep the inspiration flowing, hm? Thank you once again, all of you, for making such wonderful things possible. I’m sure your achievements will continue to open doors, both metaphorically and literally, for Blanc and for yourselves.

Meet up with your chums, old and new, and head over to Caissa’s train station. Once there, locating the Platform 42 and 5/8ths is an easy feat. There are two guards standing watch and they will stop curious civilians from sneaking past them. They will only let Heroes use the Platform and as such require proof of identification. A Hero’s uniform, rank badge or a passport identifying yourself as such should do the trick. As the platform functions as one of Gammon’s checkpoints, you will need to pay a small fee of 200 colle to pass. Should you be a new arrival, the Prime Minister will suddenly show up and pay the fee.

Where’s the portal, you might ask? Take a deep breath, walk through the wall between the guards and you’ll find yourself in Cochrane! Heroes might experience some sudden vertigo or a near insatiable hunger for pork. Very minor side effects vary from person to person.

In order to reach Grantebrycge, Heroes must travel from Cochrane to Friedgood and then a little ways further. They are free to make this journey by foot, mount or train. Directions to Grantebrycge are vague but you can’t miss the landmark of the Great Face Cliff, a monument depicting the faces of the towns’s founding members. Poobin and Cemron seem especially stern as they glare down at anyone who dares to visit.

TWO ♟ Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!

Upon entering Grantebrycge, Heroes will be immediately be ambushed by swarms of eager students from Pigeonsblood’s welcoming committee. This committee consists of upperclassmen from each of the Four Branches - Achroite, Prehnite, Bixbite, and Citrine, and they are dressed in uniforms in their Branch color (pictured here in the Bixbite red). Officially, they’re here to help you learn more about Pigeonsblood, give you a tour of the campus, and show you what each Branch can offer you so that you can make an educated decision about which to enroll in. Unofficially, they’re there to try to talk you into enrolling into their particular Branch and some will ramble on about how their Branch is the best while others fight amongst each other to try to get your attention.

Once the tour is finished, the committee will lead Heroes to the administration building. There, they’ll part with you to attend to other duties, leaving you with a reminder to head to the center plaza in an hour for the freshman orientation party. Heroes can enroll in classes if they so choose and have made a decision as to which Branch is the best for them. It’s recommended as it’s free, courtesy of Gammon. If they enroll in classes, they will receive their class schedule, a permit for a uniform, and a key to their dorm room. Head to the university shops later to have them take your measurements!

NOTE: The rooming and class schedule are up to player discretion. If there is an official mission the professors will allow an absence - Heroes can’t save the world if they’re worrying about their GPA, after all!

For those who choose to not enroll in Pigeonsblood, they can explore the campus some more, but either way make sure to head down to the central plaza before the party!

THREE ♟ The Part Where They Rope You in with Free Food

Stepping into the center plaza puts you in the middle of excited back-to-school buzz. Several event booths line the plaza, all eager to get your attention. Some will try to recruit you to their school club. Others are simply there to provide information, such as maps of the school and information about the Four Branches. Still others get even more specific, headed by banners marked “THE TOTAL IDIOT'S GUIDE TO A SUCCESSFUL ACADEMY LIFE” and “GUIDE TO HAPPINESS: HOW TO NOT DIE DURING EXAMS”. A few generous booths will provide you with free food like “Splotted Richard” or “Bangers and Mash” to fill your tummy, as well as school merchandise, such as Branch-specific pens, face paint, flyswatters, and other bits of merchandise.

If those don't get your attention, the freshmen running your way definitely will. They're beyond excited to see a Hero among their ranks, and approach you eagerly, yelling things such as, “Did you enroll? Let's do our best together!”, “You're my inspiration! I hope we're classmates!” and “Please let me know if you need a tutor! I wouldn't mind…” Thankfully, their enthusiasm is brought to a stop by the welcoming committee, who make their way to the center plaza and hush the excited freshmen. After a heartwarming speech about youth and school spirit, the committee flashes their new classmates a bright smile and finishes with: “And now, it's time for some fun!”

What do they mean by fun? The freshmen are more than eager to demonstrate! Aside from the fun offered at the various booths, there are many magic games to partake in. There's “Splash Tag,” where players must use water magic in lieu of touch to play tag, “Air Races,” in which racers use psionic, gravity, or wind magic to boost their movement, “Hot Potato,” in which the temperature of the potato is increased with each pass until it explodes on the loser, and Illusion-based Pictionary.

A few steps away from the commotion, near where the welcoming committee made their speech, is a tall bulletin board. Various flyers are posted here-- club announcements, dating ads, tutoring offers, and of course, Pigeonsblood help wanted ads.

[Tyrnen had been mildly curious about the various devices that were set up at first, but generally accepted it as a new strange thing this place liked to do. It wasn't until the mention of the free invitation to the school that he reacted.]

[He cried out while abruptly standing up. He was in on of the lounges and immediately felt himself get embarrassed.]

Um... excuse me... sorry.

[He got ready quickly and felt he might even be one of the first to arrive on the platform. He was looking his best too. His uniform was properly on, though he had altered it long ago he still felt he looked quite smart. He had his passport, fare and badge. He would definitely make a good impression! This was a school, he had to go! He couldn't let anything stop him!]

[NITWIT! BLUBBER! ODDMENT! TWEAK!]

No matter what, it must be Prehnite.

[It didn't take him long to look over the branches, it was a strange system but that was fine. He needed this school like he needed to breath! The library alone of this place was worth it. He wondered how much he could memorize.... This was everything he had wanted since he got here. He was sure he could find answers.]

If only... if only I could just stay here and never leave.

[He was a better student than he ever was a hero.]

[It was the happiest he had felt in a long long time. He was definitely going to participate in the games. Nothing was going to stop him. He felt like he could actually join in without feeling awkward or scared.]

[Ed's scythe is on a shoulder, since the students here have been pestering him nonstop to show off and it's easier to do with the full weapon than with the weapon halves.]

[ when someone gives you a pretty magical girl staff, it is obviously your duty to learn how it works. there is probably a way to learn that doesn't involve messing around mad science style, but that way is also probably super boring?

so watch out, because a ring of rose-colored light is hurtling towards you. if you don't get out of the way in time, it'll settle around you, a barrier trapping you in a five-foot radius zone. it's a pretty barrier, though? there are worse things you could be stuck in? and it's not like it hurts, it's just...very solid pink light. wow. if you dodge, well, uh. that barrier might catch someone else. or might just surround like, a statue or something. ]

Whoops, sorry!!! Geeze...I didn't mean for it to go there!

one: vending machines

[ well. she has clothes, a magical blue cat (following along at her heels), and a staff (strapped to her back). now all elise needs is...well, okay, it isn't need so much as really really really want. she's not entirely familiar with vending machines, but the idea isn't that hard to grasp. she saw someone getting a sweet out of one of them after putting in some coins. the sweet was a chocolate covered marshmallow of some sort and elise really really really wants one.

the problem? she has like, zero cash on her. shockingly, pouting at the vending machine isn't really helping her to acquire the chocolate she has her eye on. so what she needs is some more cash...hm. a short trip outside of the city later (elise stay put you don't even know what the fuck is going on) and she has some flowers neatly cut and is standing near the same vending machine in all her bubbly cheerful glory. ]

Hiiiii! Do you want to buy a flower or two? The price is...A4! Oh oh oh OR E5! ...Well, H3 also looks really good...wow, I can't pick!

[ she has no idea what the hell this denomination is or what the proper coins look like, if she's being honest. feel free to get her pitch or simply hear her trying to convince random citizens they definitely need some super pretty flowers in exchange for that delicious vending machine snack. snacks. look whatever she has a sweet tooth okay. ]

two: yer a wizard (she already knew that)

[ okay this is apparently her life now. school tours and brochures. elise has never really done school? private tutors, sure! but not an official school with fancy uniforms and also weird names. she's kind of frowning about the name. 100% stuck on it, actually, even though she should maybe be paying attention to the school pitch more. ]

But no one actually kills birds here, right??? Or DO they? I'm not sure I want to go to a school that kills innocent birdies. Even if emergency surgery DOES sound helpful!

three: tag, you're it

[ unshockingly, elise gravitates to the games as soon as those become a thing. school clubs sound fun, sure, and snacks are great...but the mention of playing games (magic games, even!) is more than enough to win her undivided attention. some of them are a little too complex for her, but minor elemental magic is kind of like anima magic, and she at least figures out a little offensive water magic enough to play splash tag. admittedly her focus on getting a grip on the learning portion (it takes her maybe half an hour to settle) is driven mostly by wanting to play. that's kind of the best way to get elise to learn anything.

maybe you're also playing splash tag by choice! or maybe you got dragged in by students. or maybe you were just silly enough to walk through a magical tag battlefield and expect to walk away completely dry. either way, elise sends a small, shaky blast of water your way with a cheerful laugh. ]

job: abandoned mines

[ this would be truly ill-advised for a tiny princess to do alone when her weapon is mostly defensive. luckily, elise isn't that reckless. kind of. somehow, she got you to come along, after all...despite the gloom and fog and, uh, wayward goats (actually those aren't that bad) elise looks entirely too awake and perky to be allowed to live. because, well, ADVENTURE. ]

Thanks soooooooo much for coming with me! Do you think we'll find any super pretty gemstones? I don't know a lot about mining, but I'll do my very best! I wonder if we can keep one. If we find a pink one, I want to keep it!

[He was drenched before he could even react, but then he didn't have the best reaction time. Well, he had been playing this game, so it was fine. he just had to get everyone back, right?]

[The air around him charged with mana, this was the best! This was fun! Who wants to go into stupid dungeons and fight stupid wars. Safe environments were the best way to experiment!

[She wouldn't be surprised if Sion loved the tv; all the more reason for him to come back and visit sometime. And more reason for Shinn to relax in their dorm too. But Caren...

She's more interested in what can be found in the vending machines. She hadn't seen these since she had been at home. But, still. This needed further examination.

So that was where Caren could be found: standing in front of one of the new machines, frowning in confusion. Was that...she moved closer to the glass so she could get a better look at the name of the food.]

...are those pork rinds?

[Maybe they were raisins? Who knew the names were weird.]

[Getting to the train station wasn't difficult. Even if she didn't have a mount yet, to rent or to buy, she knew how to get there. All she had to do was flash her passport, and she was well on her way past the guards. The payment was a pittance, really. The portal was the tricky part.

And it wasn't because of needing to take a breath or passing through; it was the after effects, of vertigo. She hadn't had this for months now, and it made her waver around like a drunk.

Did she just bump into a wall? Or possibly into you, hero? She might have. Good thing she's five foot one and not even a hundred pounds soaking wet. It'd be embarrassing if she knocked someone over! Or walked into a wall so hard that she stumbled back and either sat on the ground or smacked into passerby.]

That's very well and nice but-

[Caren has been cut off, again. This Achroite is really quite chatty, and they seem to love the sound of their own voice. But Caren...Caren, while she is highly interested in all of the various applications of magic, and might do well here as learning more physical magic and other applications...well. She's not tolerate of being steamed over at the best of times, and she's been trying to be polite for quite some time now.

...it might be a good idea to come in between her and the student. From the small smile she has on her lips, it's a small warning that she's going to do something particularly nasty and this student might end up in tears.

Who knows? Caren might actually thank the person for the rescue.]

B

[There's a lot of dizzying colors for the orientation party, a lot of yelling and jumping around too. It's like a big frat party, but without the togas, least in Caren's opinion. And...somehow she managed to get her hands on a bottle of Cream Ale.

She might have gotten it from a Prehnite for a few colle, and she's going to enjoy the taste of it-even if she's yet to decide what to go for when it comes to classes. It's hard. There's so much that she wants to learn, and if she's able to heal more, know fighting magic, be the top of the top, know alchemy...she could go far.

So she'll take a swing of her drink and come up next to you, drink or no drink.]

[It was a lot to take in suddenly. Especially when one wakes up in a strange place naked. Especially when one wakes up. Especially when one had definitely died.

Sure, he had been ninety five percent sure the world was a simulation, so dying wasn't necessarily dying. But, he also knew that if one experienced what they thought was death the brain would be convinced it was true and the person would still die. So even if there had been a chance his body wasn't real, there was still the chance it wouldn't matter. However... neither of those things mattered because this world wasn't even the world he was from! Which was highly suspicious. What made this place any more real than the last one?

These were the thoughts that filled him as he made his way to the room he was suppose to share with others. Those unfortunate people, to be forced to share a room with trash like him.]

They really need to learn a better system.

[He said softly to himself as he opened the door to his new room. If they weren't going to alter the memories of a person so transitioning to this place was easier, at least give a person more than a couple hours to sort themselves out.]

I know two hour tutorials in games are annoying, but I would be okay with at least a 2 day introduction period.

[ONE]

[So this strange fantasy world had televisions. What a strange thing to have. But, he wouldn't complain. Not that he particularly watched T.V. much, but it was something to do while he tried to settle into his new environment. And where normally he would be one of the first people to go visit a new unlocked location, he just didn't quite feel up to it right now. However from what he could hear of others in the lounge there would be plenty of others to go check it out.]

A magic school huh? I wonder if they have invisible cloaks and interesting maps in those kinds of places too. I want to go.

[But despite saying that he wasn't planning on going at all.]

[Nagito will be all around the main city getting to know things, so feel free to do whatever you want. He has interesting luck that might bring anyone around him misfortune, though nothing that is life threatening. He also has a womans hand attatched to his left arm, which will have a glove over it by evening.]

[Just as Komaeda is about to enter his new room, the door right next to him, to room 107, suddenly opens up. Out of all the people that could have stepped out of the room right then, it just so happens to be Hinata. What luck! But is it good luck or bad luck? That's up to Komaeda to decide.

He has the drowsy expression of someone who just woke up, clad in his Hero uniform with a Rook badge pinned to it, a large shield attached to his left arm and a sheathed sword on his side as if they had always been part of his attire. Realizing that there's someone standing next to him, he looks over as he closes the door behind him and suddenly he's wide awake.]

Komaeda?!

[He's so startled by Komaeda's presence that the only thing he can feel right now is pure shock.]

[ Jakob looks positively askance at the food that's in the glass box. They didn't look healthy, fresh or appetising in any manner. So what if it was able to be kept in a glass box without spoiling? It was not worth it, not in the slightest. Regardless, the drinks may be... acceptable. Without much ceremony, he ends up with a can of Doctor Pepperoni open in his hand. The fizz and the smell was... unusual to say the least.

The Hall of Glory was overwhelming with all these things that he couldn't fathom, given him a butter knife that was supposedly a weapon and a corgi with a hat that was following him. Plus, he didn't know whether Corrin was safe or not.

He looks positively cranky. So when someone comes into the rec room to open the TV to look at it, he's not going to take too happily to the noise and lights and jumps back a few paces from it, the can now leaving his hand and arching upwards towards the other person in the room. Without much of a second thought, Jakob jumps into action and leaps to grab the can. He flies in the air over the other person in the room with grace and grabs the can, before landing like a cat in front of the television. ]

TWO

Excuse me.

[ Jakob's curt voice cuts through the chatter as he approaches someone in a similar uniform to him. ]

I hope you will excuse my boldness but my name is Jakob and I am looking for my master.

[ He offers the other person a polite bow. ]

She is grace and elegance embodied, with white hair that accentuates her delicate features.

[ Pause. Does he mention this? How many people named Corrin are there? Perhaps it is worth mentioning it. ]

... Additionally she can turn into a dragon though my understanding is that she is unable to do so here without assistance.

[ Jakob straightens up and looks the other person straight in the eye. ]

[He could've been describing Gwendolyn for a second there...not that she'd think that herself, of course. She's too modest.

But the dragon part...yeah, sure can't be her then. She shakes her head in response.]

A. Shopping [Caissa, Cochrane, Friedgood]

Willa decided to look at the positives. Not think about how insane this was, she was on another world, some creepy old guy had to measure her to make sure her uniform fit. No no, she started with the fact that she was no longer on the run from her probation officer, or Walter whenever Leo sent him to find her. If Walter did find her, it'd be an impressive feat. Anyway, she was working with a clean slate, a fresh start.

So naturally the first order of business was to earn a lot of money the quickest way she could. So on her way from the Hero Hall to whatever place she was going she kept making sure people bumped into her, freeing them of their wallet, and moving on. She used said money to buy some valuable tools, and clothes, most important being a griffonleather messenger bag and a dragonskin wallet for her to put this money in.

She was avoiding anyone in hero uniform or with their badge visible, not that she was above stealing from comrades. She figured they just were as broke as she was and not worth her time. Once she felt confident she could get herself a few changes of clothes, a nice meal, and passage to wherever the hell she was going she called it quits. You know, for now.

Maybe you're running into her while she shops for clothes? Maybe you spotted her working her trade stealing from idiots? Possibly you wonder how a new face has the money to afford anything. The choice is yours, and yours alone, good luck.

B. Studying [Cochrane, Friedgood, Grantebrycge]

Once changed out of her uniform into something she felt more at home in, Willa decided to slow down and try to get her actual barings. The issue with a new world was new rules, new laws, and new ways to break them. So she was watching to see how people did magic, how the culture moved, what sort of fads and gimmicks she could use to do more than just pinch a wallet here or there.

Each step toward this magic school that felt dangerously close to copyright infringement, she'd spend a little while keeping an eye on the world and how it moved. Trying to make sense of what to do next. Next to her was a lazy looking black and white fox, whining about its leg. It was faking, again, so Willa was ignoring it.

Maybe you want to talk to the new girl, compliment her on her griffonleather bag. Or maybe her fox's whines have your attention, and you're worried the poor animal is being abused! Up to you.

[To Gwendolyn, the steampunk aspects of this world are completely new to her...mind you, it's not as if her world lacked technology. The work of the dwarves was certainly comparable, but the main difference was how widespread it was. Barring the weapons the dwarves brought to battle, much of her Kingdom was your typical swords and sorcery environment. The only other comparison she could make was to the cauldron, but...

Well, she doesn't want to think about that.

So instead, you have a woman with quite the appetite happening upon a box full of food. She'd never quite seen anything like the snacks on offer either, but...her curiosity is getting the best of her here. Her fondness for eating can't be overstated. ...but when she tries it, the carbonation is a little overwhelming for the very first time she's had it. It irritates the back of her throat and she ends up sputtering suddenly; at the very least she covers her mouth to avoid spilling any of the drink she coughs up from getting on her clothes, but still...

Help a girl out? She could use something to dry these hands.]

TWO

[At the moment she isn't particularly interested in learning magic - subject to change, but for the minute she's trying to get over, y'know, arriving in a whole new world all of a sudden - but if there's one thing that gets her attention it's free food. Did she skip out on the vending machine snacks? No, not after her incident with the carbonated drink. She's just decided to avoid them and focus on the food. The chips were good.

...so it's a surprise she actually has room for the food she's putting away at the banquet too, but there you go. Bangers and Mash, Splotted Richard, Gammonian Sausages, Liver and Onions, Frog in the Burrow (do frogs live in burrows? she isn't sure, but if not, what a strange name...) and a pitcher of water she's basically worked down to a final glass by herself.

That being said, she has her manners! She's not some ravenous, uncultured type - she eats with all the grace you'd expect from a princess, it's just that it really contrasts with how much she's putting away. Some of the students who'd thought to approach her are actually just...watching in awe now. Where does it all go?]

THREE - in which i actually write a prompt not about how hungry she is

[It did occur to her money is going to be an issue - she has no problem with that mind you; her life was far from spoiled despite her status as royalty. She was always expected to pay for things with her own money which, thankfully, she could find by grinding enemies fighting off bandits who'd drop old hard cash on defeat, or open the odd treasure chest just kinda lying around in a forest. So a quick look at the bulletin board and she was on her way to the mining job...she didn't even consider the other one. If people got upset over rejections, she wouldn't even know what to say. She ain't about that life.

Which is why she's here now, her spear in one hand and a lantern in the other. She also has a small satchel hanging from her shoulder with a few supplies, most important being her map.

So that leaves us with two possible options.]

a. [If you've arrived alongside her or even around the same time as her, expect she'll suggest it better you both work together. Gwendolyn does one final check to ensure she's ready before turning to you.]

[ Even though gluttony is her sister's thing, Mammon is no stranger to greed. She's a part of the group that's watching Gwendolyn vacuuming the food, which is a nice break after commuting and taking in all the information she could from the local students about the school. The way Gwendolyn eats and the amount she eats is purely amusing for Mammon, to which she giggles about before she makes her way to stand next to her. She's not going to say no to free food after all.

She plucks some chips and after eating, she decides that they're edible enough and has some seconds. ]

Looks like someone didn't have breakfast today!

[ Of course, this is Mammon. Her middle name would be "teasing" if she had a last name. ]

[ there's so much here he can't identify, it's hard to know where to begin. serpico's allowed himself to be shepherded along since he woke up, quietly following those instructions to pick up a 'magical' weapon (which surely can't actually be magical) and a 'carrier,' but after that ... frankly, he feels a little lost. this isn't where he's supposed to be. this isn't what he should be doing. none of this is right.

he ends up settling for familiar territory to ground himself, testing out this new weapon of his.

a short way away from the armory, down a quieter stretch of hallway, one might hear the sounds of something sharp and metallic whipping through the air. turn the corner and there's serpico giving his new rapier a test swing -- and gently tapping at a wall with the very tip of the blade. there's a pause as he studies his own weapon.

and then, suddenly, the rapier's scabbard goes launching out of his hand to whack against the wall with a loud clatter. ]

Oh. [ he looks a little taken aback, even more so when he looks up and realizes he's not alone. ] Sorry, was the noise a bother?

[ someone who walks into one of the quieter, out-of-the-way leisure rooms might find serpico investigating the television. as in, he's ignoring whatever's playing on the screen -- a cooking show, by the looks of it -- and is instead cautiously circling it, running his fingers over its surface and squinting at the dials and plugs in the back.

if it looks like he's never seen a television before, it's because he sure as hell hasn't.

he'll stop the moment he realizes someone else is in the room though, quickly straightening up and giving a sheepish laugh. ]

Ah, were you going to use the, ah ... [ what was the word, again. something-vision. ] -- this?

[ away from the center plaza, in a quieter area of the campus, on a bench under a tree. serpico's seated there quietly, back straight, posture proper, but gaze directed blankly out at nowhere in particular. he looks kind of dazed, like he has way too much to think over.

and also there's this massive, hawk-sized dragonfly crawling from his shoulder to his head to his lap and back up to his head, mussing up his hair.

it's just his carrier, chirping away curiously, but to a passerby it might look a bit like he needs rescuing?! ]

[ he'll work. yes, that's good. the tedium of work is something far more familiar to him than all this talk of magic and heroes, and it'll help calm him down. also, earning some money would probably be a good idea.

he's a bit more used to walking and traveling than he is with mining, so -- letter-delivery it is. ]

[ a curious sight around the letter route: a flying micropig squealing in terror as it flies dangerously close past you, scattering a few letters in its wake. it's chased by a huge, chittering dragonfly ... followed by serpico chasing them both at a sprint, shouting a breathless 'sorry!' at you.

fortunately, the pig does a sharp u-turn to avoid a wall, barreling back into serpico's arms, and he gets to stop for air, squeezing the pig tight so it doesn't try to fly away again when the dragonfly lands on his head. ]

I'm terribly sorry for that. I hope you haven't been hurt? [ he still sounds a little breathless as he circles back to where you are, crouching down to fetch the dropped letters. ] I think it was spooked by my, ah ... [ carrier. he means carrier, but he just gestures vaguely at the dragonfly. ]

[ those at the letter pick-up area might spot serpico sighing as he returns with a tired-looking micropig and an empty mailbag.

also, he's got what looks like salad in his hair. ]

Please be careful. [ he smiles weakly, if he notices anyone looking at him, brushing his hand through his hair. ] It seems these letters really are quite upsetting to receive. Someone was angry enough to throw their lunch at me.

Unfortunately this is not the strangest or most threatening situation she’s had the displeasure of facing and is quick on her feet, scrambling to wrap the sheet around her body to form makeshift cover. You might think her vain for punching in the first mirror she sees, but it’s namely done so that she can arm herself with one of the shards and has nothing to do with the state of her hair (though her stylists would have a stroke for sure).

Now that she’s bleeding, Katniss is in familiar territory; this, combined with disorientation, is partly why she’s so calm when she finally comes across and sneaks up on another person – you!

Granted, this entirely thing is fairly humiliating. Made more so by the fact that her sheet drops. Ecchi style.

If you’re male, she blushes. If you’re female, she blushes. Either way, she positions the sliver of glass like a dagger, narrows her eyes, and crouches in an attack formation. ] You have exactly ten seconds to explain what’s going on before I slit your throat and feed what’s left to this - [ she’s about to say “bird thing” but since it doesn’t carry the menace she’s going for, settles on - ] creature.

[ Let’s be real: it’s been a weird day. Weirder still when you’re asked to run straight through a brick wall to attend magic college. As Katniss sees it, this is her opportunity to infiltrate. Get to know the ins and outs of this Strange New World. Have orientation day exploring shenanigans. That sort of thing.

As the train is preparing to depart she finds a window, yanks it down, and leaps onto its edge, allowing half her body to hang outside the car so she can get a better look at the city. That they’re allowed to leave so soon in their tenure was an unexpected windfall – one Katniss intends to take full advantage of. But seeing as how magic is an entirely foreign element to her, she has no idea what to expect.

From her vantage point, mouth once again full of something, she asks you (the nearest person who doesn’t look like they could kill her): ] So. What does magic look like? Out of curiosity.

Here's the thing: waking up naked in a new place is startling, but otherwise not too bad! The new clothes aren't his style and he wouldn't have picked a magical whip for his weapon... ever, but Favaro can't complain about being dressed up fancy and given all kinds of luxuries he's never known to be for people less than "filthy rich." He isn't keen on fighting in a war or toting around the Hero title, but whatever: free stuff.

There is one thing he has to check, though— he has to be one hundred percent sure. Waking up naked confirmed enough, but maybe he missed something - it's possible. You never know. So.]

Hey! [First, he's talking to the locals.] Would you do me a tiny, insignificant favor? You see, I've got this condition, and I can't tell if it's cleared up or not, and—

[While he says this, he's turned around so that he's got his back to these people and he is quite literally hiking his jacket up and wiggling his pants down enough to show an inch or so of his goddamn ass. [The only thing worse than wayward goats is having one for a Carrier. Favaro's brand new little pygmy goat sure has no interest in staying with him the moment they're in an open enough space to make a run for it, and the wayward goats wandering the area are not making it any easier to get the little guy back.

Favaro, of course, is yelling.] Come back here, you little horned bastard! You're not even a real goat!

[Every time he manages to get close, it bites. Currently, a regular goat is taking advantage of him ducking down to try and scoop up his little one and chewing on his hair.]

[Sort of actually working - in the mine itself, Favaro is doing better than outside. He has an eye for shiny and finds a small cache of gems quickly enough. But for some reason he's brought two bags...]

[ he's walking by when he spots the small crowd of horrified locals, and serpico draws closer just in time to see several of the woman run off with horrified little gasps, a good number of the men also turning away in disgust. while a few people are laughing, most of the crowd is dispersing very, very quickly because who wants to deal with this strange man baring his ass in the streets?

which leaves serpico standing a short distance away, eyebrow raised. ]

serpico, on his part, is somewhat used to nudity. traveling for weeks on end with a band of sweaty, tired knights, one very quickly gets used to the lack of privacy. although admittedly ... none of the knights had been quite so bold as to make a gesture like this at their herald.

he cants his head, waiting for favaro to pull up his pants before asking mildly, ]

[There's not much that can shake Dazai, including waking up naked in an unknown building, but there's definitely a lot that can annoy him. The helpful people of Caissa may have provided him a uniform but the rudely forgot the most important thing.

So, here he is, creeping through the Queen hall wrapped tightly in his sheet so only his face is visible. Thankfully he is fully dressed under the cover but he's mostly cosplaying as a cheap ghost, hope you aren't too faint of heart. If he had any idea where this was he would avoid all contact on his mission but unfortunately he can't.

Dazai peeks around a corner and pokes a hand out to beckon towards whatever unfortunate soul he spotted. Despite the pout he sounds as lighthearted and cheery as usual.]

Yoohoo! Could you tell me where the infirmary is?

[He's going to steal every single roll of bandage.]

[There was no use dragging one's feet in adapting to this new fangled place. Dazai picked up his complimentary carrier and weapon quickly after he learned of them but, well, the issue is they weren't exactly his style. Keeping pets and unique weapons was for other people, not him. The novelty of a magical weapon won out over his other sensibilities in the end though. Obviously the next step was to test out this weapon and see what he could do with it.

He's out of the way, turning the knife he was given over, inspecting it, tossing it casually in the air... You know, normal stuff. That is until he eyes one of the newly installed vending machines. He taps the glass of the machine with the blade one, two, three- and then the blade slides right through the glass and into the packages. Suddenly several bags of Cornitos pop open and fill the inside of the machine with triangle shaped chips. In the second someone might have looked at the mess and back to Dazai the knife is suspiciously gone and there is only a slight hole in the glass...

He smiles.]

My, they should work on their quality control before bringing in faulty machines.

[He kneels down, pushes open the hatch, and grabs a few chips which he feeds to the raccoon next to him. This is totally normal.]

3. Yer not a wizard, Dazai.

[There's no way Dazai is saying no to free travel or banquets no matter the occasion. Of course he's heading off to school. He can be found pretty much everywhere from the tours of the building, listening in to students brag about their magical prowess, and all over the party.]

[The attention from all the students has Dazai beaming and, for lack of a better word, posturing. Sure, he's listening diligently to their spiels and watching their demonstrations but he's giving as good as he gets. He's making a show of sleight of hand tricks which has half of the students convinced he already knows illusion magic while the other half try to one up him with more outrageous shows, something he only goads them on into doing. This only attracting more and more students and only making them rowdier...

That is, until one student bit off more than he could chew and a spell backfired with a massive explosion of colorful smoke. A chance Dazai took to get the hell away from the crowd. Which has landed him behind a corner and another hero, who he's got a hold of their shoulder to keep his human shield in place. He can't help but laugh merrily as the students shout at his sudden disappearance and realization that he hasn't promised to join any of their houses.]

He catches the ticking time bomb on reflex and realizes quickly (good thing his hand is already protected by bandages) it's on the verge of exploding. He might not have the control to add more heat to it just yet but he tosses it surely at another person.]

[As often as he's found himself unwillingly dragged into new and confusing things since he's gotten here, Atsushi should really be expecting to be pulled into yet another unfortunate incident. Being a human shield certainly qualifies, though this time isn't as bad, because at least he's gotten some free food out of the day, which does a lot to help with anything that may be going wrong.

He still doesn't want to be a meat shield against incredibly enthusiastic students, though. It's his fault for thinking he could quietly make an escape by lurking around corners, because that hasn't worked out for him once around these people. While he immediately has a long list of Very Good Reasons why he is a terrible shield and shouldn't be used to such ends against the students here, something quickly clicks into place as he turns to look up at the monster that would use an innocent Hero this way.

Oh. Of course.

Even with plenty of time to think of everything he'd say if and when he got the chance to see anyone from home again, all Atsushi can do in the moment is gape at Dazai. He's real, right?]

[ Vending machines are new to Mammon--she didn't know how to use one. She would normally be asking around, but it was easier to see it being demonstrated by someone else. After mentally taking notes on what to do, she successfully gets out a small bag of cookies. What is this magic??

Though, she thought that she had to insert money, so she looks at her big bag for a second. She was really happy to see a bag full of cash, because all this wealth was hers. However, she found it difficult to carry around, which is a problem. But since she just came out of the armory to pick it up, it's here with her.

Surely they don't expect her to carry it out into battle, right?! No, except. They do. They really do. After lashing out at the person who handles handing out the weapons, this was her next stop.

She kicks the bag. She picks it up a little, only to throw it back on the ground while holding the bag of chips with her mouth.

After a frustrated noise, she kicks it rather hard and suddenly all this money flies out like some sort of huge money beam at a very high speed with big impact.

[ Despite having a huge bag of money as her weapon, she found the money inside pretty useless, so this is why she is here. She is no stranger to doing tasks, but it is new to her to do it for money. However, she is greed. Therefore, she's going to amass all the riches she can get as possible!

This is why she chose to take up the task of delivering rejection letters... or so you'd think.

These micropigs with wings and small mailbags are just about the cutest thing that Mammon has laid her eyes on ever since she got here. They're cute. They're super cute! They're so cute that... she's taking her time to petting it and such. This is why she hasn't started doing her job.

Her carrier, a small fox, looks at you.

"Please snap her out of it", it would say, but it doesn't. Instead, it makes itself comfortable on your shoe in an attempt to get your attention. Though, if that doesn't get your attention, it will start rhythmically tapping on your shoe next. ]

[ Mammon sits on her bed, looking at the letter and pastries that Orihime put on her bed. It was a pleasant surprise, so she sits down and eats the pink bunny pastry first. Not bad. She never tasted carrot cream before, so it's quite an experience. She eats the cute chicky one next, and her thoughts immediately steer over to morbid territory. Oh. She likes this. She even giggles. Her carrier, a small fox, paws the last one and circles in place. Mammon gives that one to her carrier, the kitty pastry. Well, half of it anyway. The carrier gives her a momentary displeased look before eating it, but moves towards the mooncake next.

Which earns a light chop on the head by Mammon. ]

[ Waking up in an unfamiliar place again is definitely not Diana's idea of a good time, and it takes her quite some time before she's able to work up the nerve to actually step outside and put on a uniform. Well, maybe signing up for one or two wouldn't hurt, right? Especially since she seems like a Bixbite girl at heart, judging from how hard they're trying to sell her on it. That's more than enough to get her interested. It seems just being on a school campus - a magical school, specifically - has kicked her confidence through the roof. Being back in one's element seems to do that, afterall. And it's reinvigorated her, leading to her confidently walking through the campus with an aura she had lacked since arriving. It seems to be affecting her natural charm as a queen, as well, as she seems to have a particularly large group of people attempting to get her into their branch, at the moment.

Not that she's paying a particularly large amount of attention to them - she made her decision only moments after hearing about the branches, and is on her way to enroll.]

[Susan enrolled right in front of the gaggle of people following her, which is probably why roughly 90% of them are currently in anguish, bemoaning their fates and the fact they couldn't convince her. The remaining 10%, the ones in yellow, are ecstatic, cheerfully informing her of a lot of advantages and legacy and... she's not really listening, honestly, she's investigating the schedule and other things she was given.]

I'll have to get fitted for a uniform.. not enough time before the party though.. hm. I would have appreciated another color, but that's minor, I suppose.

[Once the party begins, Susan is content to explore, looking at all the clubs and what not. Her charm effect hasn't diminished a bit since she got here, so there's quite a few freshman huddled around her. Offering to carry her bags, carry her, let her wipe her feet on their back, giving her food, and what have you.

She does shoo them off eventually however, and can be found enjoying a quiet moment with a drink, looking over the materials. Of course if you wanted to be a JERK and pull her into one of the games, now would be a good moment.]

[A mission involving the highest area she can find, which is this pretty tall ass tree in an extremely public space, but does Lenalee care??? apparently not, not even with her carrier zooming in circles above her and her new magic shoes hanging limp from her hand, because Lenalee swings herself up that tree like some kind of possessed weirdo (which might be accurate, since a lot of people are probably giving her the Eye) and scurries all the way to the top.]

[Lenalee peels away from the Platform 42 and 5/8ths like a speeding bullet (or in this case, a speedy pawn), intent on fighting her way back through the crowd milling about Caissa's train station. She's in pursuit of (1) Prime Minister Thierry Toussaint because she definitely saw him for at least 3.5 seconds while he was paying for her train fare (apparently one of the most important people in Caissa has time to pay, but not enough time to stick around in one spot long enough for Lenalee to grab him??), but she feels slower now -- especially when she's barefoot (lenalee why r u barefoot) and without the Dark Boots she's so used to wearing.]

Wait -- please!

[WHERE IS THIS GUY??? HE'S SUPER FAST?? did he like teleport... Lenalee spins around once on spot, then she dives back into the crowd for one final desperate attempt --

But she couldn't not go and check out the grounds (see: compare this place and judge it for being nothing like her own alma mater), that would be rude, especially after a few very exuberant first-years practically carried her around by the arms. Oh, to be that young again.

At first it's only a couple, trying to grill him with personality questions to determine which branch he suits (obviously, one of there's). But then there's another, and two more, and two more who are all interested in getting one of the strangest-looking heroes into their classes. Think of the bragging rights!

Syrlya shifts up on his toes and looks over their heads nervously until he spots another hero and waves. Enthusiastically. Help??]

[Once he has the breathing room to make it to the administrative building, he's very thoughtfully reviewing an entire list of classes and the four branches. He flips back and forth between the same page multiple times.]

[But the excitement of magic school hasn't cause him to forget about his letters. So he's sitting in a public room in Cassia near the hero's quarters with a stack of paper and a pen. Beside his feet is a watering can with his name engraved on it, holding a smiling sunflower that hums and grins at the passers-by.

There's some half-written sheets and a slightly crumpled parchment to his side, but his attention doesn't seem to be on them. Instead he's staring out the open window, tapping the pen.]

How quiet... [Except there are birds loudly chirping outside and heroes back and forth through the halls, so it isn't very quiet at all?]

[ It seemed like Midoriya couldn't take a few steps without being heckled. He didn’t hate the praise, but he felt like it was misplaced. Standing stiff and awkwardly as it overwhelms him, Midoriya blushes all the way down his neck, scratching it as uncomfortable heat in his face made it hard to think - he was just about ready to pop!!! Getting away from everyone might help, but.... the only place he knew was that bedroom he woke up in... and Honestly, Bakugou was the last parton he wanted to cross paths with right now.

Should you approach, Midoriya won’t notice immediately, but enough indication that you’re about to talk to him, and he blurts out: ] I’m sorry, I know you might think I’m somebody but I only just got here and it’s not really appropriate to cheer me on as haven’t done anything special yet so thank you but I’m really just a nobody right now but I really want to help so if you could give…

Getting thrown in the midst of a war should have been more terrifying, but with how everyone seemed to be acting, it gave off the feeling of a gigantic field trip more than anything else. The rushing around with supplies and televisions, of all things, was jarring, but not quite enough to instill any real sense of danger in Keigo just yet. No, he was doing a fine job of that himself, what with his lack of abilities. Without being able to sense the souls of others, how was he meant to protect himself from the truly dangerous? At the very least, it was a familiar feeling; he'd been normal at one point in his life, after all. But hearing about a portal to some place he'd never heard of prior was... terrifying in its own way. Keigo knew of how the Shinigami traveled between realms, so that was all he had to compare it to. How did it work? Was it even safe? He couldn't sense a damn thing and that was the most frustrating part of all.

So he wandered, but never quite making that step into the (more) unfamiliar territory of that portal. He was alone, aside from the weapon fastened to his waist, though even that failed to bolster his sense of safety. He managed to reach the station that had been mentioned on the broadcast, but he relented to explore further. Not without a friend, at least. It was all very... intimidating.

At some point or another, Keigo found himself in the strange campus of Pigeonblood, and immediately he became overwhelmed by all the attention. He wasn't the only one being ambushed by students of the campus, but never before had he experienced such eagerness towards him, for... anything. He could barely understand them over each other, anyway, and the last thing he needed was to agree to something hastily, just to get them away from him. With a frustrated growl, Keigo suddenly felt rather annoyed and ... headache-y. Loud yelling and shouting never got to him before, but now he had the workings of a migraine thumping at his head. He pressed his hands to his temples and rubbed them before looking for an escape... Someone had to see his plight and give him a hand, right?

"Everyone just calm down, oi!" maybe by yelling back in return, he'd get somewhere? Keigo's voice tended to carry rather well, at any rate... Shouting over everyone else proved to be an easy task, but getting them to shut up entirely was another matter. "Shut up already!" he groused, trying to step back away from them all. Was there some kind of incentive involved for this welcoming committee? He had no idea, but it certainly felt that way.

The welcoming committee really was anything but, in Keigo's eyes. He wasn't thrilled about academia to start with (though admittedly, he was faring much better back home than two years ago, when it came to his studies) and getting ambushed upon arriving to the campus wasn't a great way to liken him to the idea of enrolling. He felt he had no real reason to, anyway; he lacked his abilities and even if he had them, it wasn't like he could hone them or make them more useful. He really was a poor choice for whoever decided to pull him there; fighting and magic and all that... he wasn't cut out for it.

What he was cut out for was eating. Sweets were especially in danger whenever Keigo was stressed out and boy, was he ever tense after such a tumultuous series of events. Keigo wasn't familiar with the foods there in the slightest, but he knew sugar when he saw it. Anything remotely sweet would fall victim to his scavenging and he didn't seem to carry much shame in it. At least he wasn't sloppy or messy about it; one wouldn't have given a second glance if it wasn't for the fact that he kept going back for more...

With that, he pointed toward where they could go. Together. He had no idea what all of this was but they could explore it as a pair rather than being alone.

[ This is a lot to take in. Aqua feels like she can't catch her breath with all of the new developments she's encountered in the hours (and then days) that she's been present in this world. It's even more difficult for her to blend in, she feels - where in other worlds she's always been someone along the sidelines, here she feels she's been thrust into the center with all of the other Heroes who wear the same clothes as her, with duties and expectations...and permanency. That's the thing that gets her the most; she can't leave this world and no longer has access to any of the magics (or her Keyblade) that would have allowed her to make a short exit.

Instead, she's wandering a school campus while upperclassmen tell her about classes and test scores, and the very idea is surreal.

She looks absolutely at a loss for words once the upperclassmen vacate the area. The larger-than-normal silver fox at her side reflects none of his partner's perturbation, seemingly calm as a cucumber. Aqua, though? Aqua looks like she's experiencing a bit of culture shock. ]

Is this really even necessary? I thought we were here to fight...

[ Do Heroes get to enroll in school? She never did. She's always been taught beneath a single tutor, Master Eraqus. The idea of having classmates and books and lessons is a little overwhelming - but also exciting. ]

I've never been to school before.

[ Her Carrier huffs like an overbearing father. Girl has a lot to learn about what's allowed in this place. ]

And this other strange machine, the one that delivers snacks in exchange for coins ... How did it seem to know that the users had paid the right amount of money?! There's no way it's not magic.

A: [ Anyway, he's trying it all!! Your character might find him in all his white dragony glory admiring another dragon princess whose adventures are being depicted on the television screen. He has a bit of a sparkle in his eyes as he continues to watch. ]

[ Kija was a little reluctant about the games at first, but it didn't take long for him to get really intro things!! All the students really had to do was offer him a challenge .... and his competitive spirit handled the rest.

[After a tour that was less a tour and more 'keep certain Heroes from wandering off', Kaede had walked out into the plaza, reunited with a subadult grey-feathered griffon that was cheerfully pacing by her side along with her Carrier. For some reason they asked her to leave the horse-sized disaster with wings outside, with all due respect Hero. Probably because of the griffon's tendency to hop-flutter and flail its wings at everything that startled or interested it.

A bit like it was doing now, to the point where the reins Kaede was holding onto were barely useful as a leash.

Oh, oh, what was that? That looked interesting! With a chirp, the griffon pulled the reins out of Kaede's hands to bound over to investigate, barred wings half spread and ear tufts up. It might be bouncing over to you!]
