Training: The Gammon edition

Who: Caren and you!

Where: Kickdton, Gammon
What: Caren organized a mass training session. This can only go well.
Rating: PG-13 for possible language and certainly violence. Train on!



It's not a difficult place to find, considering the directions: all heroes had to do was find Kickin' Kiwi park, and head straight for the river. There would be all sorts of helpful signs which hero worshippers may have helped set up. Watch out for the kiwi birds though, they're everywhere! In the distance, there's the Royal Foccer Fellowship Stadium. So in case one wishes to go watch some foccer practice instead, that's always an option.

But that's not what you heroes are here for, is it? You're here in the middle of a truly beautiful park for some training! There's a notice (and possibly a fan or two hovering around) stuck to a clean pile of rocks, saying for trainnees must tie a ribbon (which are in buckets, and also somehow stuck to the rocks?) to their arm, corresponding to the training they wish to take. The categories are as follow:

Healing (BLUE) Weapons (RED) Magic (PURPLE) Endurance (GREEN) Sparring (ORANGE)

Trainers are instructed to take the armbands (also found in the buckets!) of the corresponding colours of their course so not to confuse the students. However, if it turns out you are a terrible trainer, Caren will happily take away your armband and give you your own special lesson. (What that lesson is, no one wants to find out).

Don't forget to bring your heroic weapons, because training weapons are not provided. Though maybe you'll get lucky, and someone will want to teach hand to hand combat!

It's also highlighted in BOLD RED LETTERS THAT KILLING IS FORBIDDEN. Try to break this rule, and Caren will break you. Slowly.

[She's overseeing everything today. This might mean that she'll be busy with directing students and teachers alike. Both to make sure everything is going safe, and to make them sweat a little.

But there are times where she's by the notice rocks, the river, where she may be taking a break or waiting for someone to come up to her. She could be drinking from a cute little juice box she took from a bag of hers, or she could even be taking out a book.

When a hero approaches her though, all items are placed to the side.]

Yes? May I help you?

[Do they want instructions from her? Or simply directions to a teacher they've been hoping to get?]

Yeah. You may. Sorry for interrupting the book.

[She waves a short hello.]

So, uh... you were going to teach me about magic and stuff, right? I'm down for learning, before everything goes straight to hell.

Not at all. I can read it another time.

[She snaps the book shut, and puts it away. The arm bands slide a little on her arms. Ah, well.]

I did say that. But is there a particular spell that you wanted to achieve? Or try? We could make that a goal for today.

Uh... [She thinks it over for a moment, trying to remember spells she's seen. One in particular sticks out.]

I want to call lightning out of the palm of my hand.

Lightning?

[It's not fire, but it's close. Nah, she can understand it.]

It's certainly possible. Don't expect a large show though; we're working with a limited amount of magic.

Hold out your hands.

Alright. [She holds both hands out in front of her, jaw set in determination.]

[It's that look that one gets when they are totally focused on doing the thing, but have no idea what the thing even is in the first place.]

[Well, at least she's determined....]

All right. What you need to remember is that magic is like any force in the world. The difference is that this is built upon your intention and determination. If you don't mean it, or if you don't know what you're doing, the spell will not work.

Focus is key. This is why magic can be very difficult to master, and it's best to keep to a few spells until you're comfortable in its use.

Intention, focus, and recitation. You need these three so your spell will work.

[ It is a little rude to come up and approach someone, and then turn one's attention to the water. But she does, Regina looks at Caren and says nothing at first, she leans down towards the water, running her fingertips through it. If anything, it's an excuse on her part to see if she can feel anything from her. White hair is often tied to the supernatural (more specifically, the nephilim) and when she feels nothing, Regina finally acknowledges Caren. ]

It's interesting to see you, face to face.

[ No one said she was coming here to make friends. She had learned from this from her carrier and the network. She barely knew how to use it or paid attention to it. Fortunately for her, disclosing to her carrier so personally she wanted to learn more magic resulted in him insisting that she listen to Caren.

She was in no real position to brush it off; she was in a world that was strange to her and being in a foreign land beforehand taught her that it was best to learn what one could, in order to survive. She was still a druid and part of her upbringing was learning as much as she could. ]

I've come to see what sort of magic you had to offer.

[Well, she's met her fair share of strange recruits. She would know; she's one of them. But seeing Regina with her white hair, her eyes...ah. Not golden, no. Not like Sion and herself.

But seeing someone with white hair was always something of a special interest for her.]

And you. I always wonder if meeting someone of similar appearance, if they are kin of another world.

[Not quite the truth, not quite a lie either. But it seemed that Regina had been seeking her, specifically.]

But I'm seeking to teach healing and invocation, with leanings towards basic training in the elemental arts.

I will warn you now, that if you are seeking to do a larger working, it would not be possible at this time. You simply do not have the power reserve yet.

[ "Kin" had a number of connotations for her, how freely it was used to Nephilim and their inner circles. But looking at her, Regina was already going to assume one thing. ]

You're human, aren't you?

[ She's always had a mixed relationship with humans. Even if she broke apart from the once bloodthirsty group of her kind, a hint of disgust seeps into her voice. Caren didn't have the height of her kind. ]

I can assure you right now, we are not kin of any sort.

[ The warning, despite her arrogance, she takes into consideration. Going over any sort of limit could always result in a disaster. The beast remains at bay, despite the few struggles she's had over the past few weeks. ]

For your safety and others, I do not seek more than I intend to have at this time. The magic of this world is different than the magic that I am accustomed to. I need to be successful if I want to survive.

That depends on who you ask, but technically yes.

[She was almost amused by this woman's dismissal. Ah, there it was. The disgust for her, even before knowing more than her name and an offer to assist. That was something that she could deal with.

Or rather, something she knew how to handle. It was almost comfortable.]

Then I will do what I can to assist you on the matter, if you would allow me. Is there a particular spell you would like to know? Something you want to know for the battle ahead?

[ Regina was forced to bite her tongue. Already, she had a few encounters here where she could have been kinder. Even now, she can hear her teacher scolding her for being rude; it's not good for anyone meant to be a leader of any sort to be so rude. She took a brief moment to enjoy the sight of the water next to her, since it wasn't a sight so readily available near the Hall of Heroes, not like this.

She hated it. Despite the odd people in this world, she felt more out of place. "I am allowing you", she almost utters, but running her fingertips through the water brings much-needed grounding. She considered herself comfortable enough in combat, there wasn't a need to that. If she didn't have the heightened senses, she at least had the advantage of height and strength. ]

Let's start with the basics.

[ Slowly, she rose, tossing her long white hair behind her shoulder. ]

I want to see an offensive spell that you know, nothing too extraordinary. I want to see if it compares to what I know.

[ That was good, right? To learn and incorporate druid magic with others? She couldn't readily ask her teacher, but she knew he was always open to any sort of magic. ]

[She would have welcomed it, but then, Caren enjoyed a lot of things that weren't good for the soul. Confrontation was one of them. It seems her companion is enjoying the water at least?

Or something of that sort. She waits for her to think, and ponder. And Caren feels herself faintly smile.]

Ha. That, I can provide.

[Her fingers flick, and she utters a single word.]

Rigo.

[A gout of water is summoned in midair, and splashes back into the river. Her stance shifts, and she moves her fingers again, though more of a twitch.]

Fulmen.

[Lightning bursts from her fingers, lighting the ground on fire. Caren stomps it out with her foot, and watches Regina. Waiting for her reaction.]

[He'd heard about the training session that had been set up by another Hero. After some contemplation that night, he shows up the next day. He's a bit nerve wracked about the entire endeavor but there's a determined glint in his eye nonetheless.

He's not sure how to go about this, considering he has no idea what he's doing, but he's here and he might as well make the best of it.]

Yes, hello- I'm Apollo Justice. Would you happen to know about spear combat?

[His weapon hangs at his side, the shaft collapsed into itself to make for easy travel.]

[Maybe she had done this because there was need; maybe she did it in a memory of someone who would have called her friend. But, well, she's making the most of this.

But this new comer is a bit of a surprise, and she blinks, taken aback for a few moments. It's a rare thing. But she rallies back.]

A pleasure, Justice. I do know a thing or two of spear combat, though not as much as an expert. Enough to get you started.

[She glances at the weapon by his side.]

If you could extend it for me? I'd like to see what we're working with.

[He removes it from where it hung at his belt, letting the shaft extend by a simple click of the mechanism inside of it. It shoots out, becoming the complete heroic weapon he'd acquired when he arrived here, holding it in front of him.

He didn't think he'd want to do this, but after-

No, that's not what he should think about now.]

I don't know much about spears, and I've only really used it once. I'm afraid I'll have to do so again.

[That made it easier to carry around, that was for certain. But...well. She hums gently, and gives him a cool look.]

You've been called to war, Justice. You are going to have to use it, if not to protect yourself, then to save other lives.

The spear suits you better, I think, then a sword. A spear is made to extend your reach, and it can be used non-lethally against the enemy.

[He hates to think of what he'd have to do on a battlefield one day. He knows she's right, and it's a bit of a comfort to hear that she thinks that a spear is a better choice.]

Non-lethally? [That's the part he's interested in, and his ears perk up.]

I'd like to practice that, then. I'm not exactly suited for war.

You'll have to switch it around, but it's possible. And you'll need something to cap the spear, so it can operate as a staff instead.

[Or she could tell him just to stab people. No big.]

But, well. Most people who arrive are not suited for war. We'll see about merely extending your reach, as spears-or staffs-are supposed to do.

I was simply wondering if you might be willing to teach an old man about the art of healing? I've always wanted to learn!

[He paused, then, eyeing the book!]

If you're busy it's no trouble, though! I can certainly go find someone who might like to train with weapons or sparring, I'm sure!

[Far be it from him to be imposing, after all!]

Ah, Lord Shunsui.

[She's not used to the honorfic, but she'll go with it. Even if she doesn't know what to think about it but...ah well. It's not the first time. At least he seems to be perky?]

I'm not busy; the book is mostly to amuse myself between lessons.

[The book ends up closed, and she sets it aside, before straightening up...which doesn't look like much, especially in comparison to the larger man.]

Healing might be difficult for you, but how are you with your magic in general? Good? What about the amount of mana you can draw upon?

[He bowed at the honorific, not quite sure how to handle it himself! He simply referred to all ladies as ladies, his way of trying to be charming. But this was no time to explain such boring things!]

Ah, I'm glad I'm not interrupting! And unfortunately the mana I can draw upon isn't great, given my rank as a knight. My magic is fairly capable despite that, though. I'm getting fairly good at shaping enemy mana into weapons of my own, if that means anything.

[He was a little sad to hear that healing would be difficult. It seemed that no matter how powerful he was in any world, that never changed.]

[Ah well turnabout is fair play. Charming or not.]

Hm. Well, that means you could do...some things, though I don't expect you to pull off anything remotely like the Kings or Queens.

[She considers.]

The importance of spells, and the use of mana in particular is to be creative and to focus on your intention.

...one of the things you may be able to do in particular with your allies is you could draw out their pain and use it as a weapon against enemies.

Ah, no worries! I wasn't hoping to get anywhere near the level of a King or Queen. I've just always had an interest in magic, is all. Used to use it a lot back home!

[He paused to consider her suggestion, humming a little as he thought.]

Using my allies' pain as a weapon would be a good thing. Would that lessen the pain, for them?

Did you? Insteresting.

[It might influence his abilities, for good or for ill. But no matter.]

If that is your intention, yes. Magic here, I noticed, is mostly about intention and focus. Which means healing and how you heal can have a wide variety of applications.
