beach episode, round 2 (the free for all version)
Who: Everyone in this game!! It's an open mingle log!
When: Maybe like, the first three days of August.
Where: Caissa's Beach and Water Garden.
What: Just for the sake of having a Beach Episode, we're totally pretending that a bunch of NPCs (fantasy college students?!) decided to have a party.
Rating: None right now! Or maybe PG, I added some thugs just because.

[If you were walking around Caissa lately (or even just saw a few fliers around) there seems to be a Beach Party organised by a few unnamed beings, possibly a bunch of young adults who just want to party up. Their reason is, it's nearly the end of summer, so they're going to have a summer party. And everyone's invited! But what will happen?
Basically, it's just a get together with many people gathering around to party on a beach. Here's a few things you can do!
Pre-party: Choose swimwear, maybe together. Or yukata (as I have been informed to add too)
1. Build a sandcastle (or become a sand mermaid). What if there's a contest?
2. Join in on a barbeque done by random citizens that may be pretty tasty...or can just suck, so maybe you should give them a hand.
3. SWIM. SPLASH WATER. IT'S THE BEACH. If not, maybe check out those watergardens? It seems to be quieter there.
4. Competitive sports. You will be challenged to various types of beach sports, on the sand or in the water. OR, you'll be challenge to smash a watermelon while blindfolded.
5. Sun bathe. Why not, really.
6. At night, there's a bit of dancing around a bonfire and also some small fireworks and sparklers.
7. Whatever the heck you want, really.
But watch out! Since this is a gathering open to everyone, you may find yourselves in the presence of some local troublemakers. But don't worry, Heroes, you're strong, pretty sure you can protect the people. Just make sure it's nothing that will land you into trouble, that is all (I'm sure hand slapping will be okay. Or maybe challenge them to the equivalent of racing on the beach).
Either way, get your summer on. Also a random excuse you can use to get to this party can be "My Carrier smelled the food and headed here".]

rin tohsaka | ota!
but, maybe you're useful??? depending on how lucky you are
hint: you're not lucky at all, rin gives you a haughty order, such as:]You. Go bring me a fresh drink. I don't have all the time in the world.
[see that long glass full of ice, with a spirally straw and cut pineapple on the rim? she's not shaking it because she thinks it's fun. or,]
Adjust my umbrella, will you? The sun is going to burn my legs.
[or,]
You look like you're doing nothing useful. My neck is all cramped up. You don't mind giving me a quick massage, right?
[or,]
How good are you at reapplying suntan lotion?
[of course, these aren't the only things she says—maybe rin catches sight of a shier hero, and speaks up with a compliment or some words of advice. maybe, on the other hand, she tells you to remove your repulsive self from her presence...
basically, anything is possible!]

[Meliora was wandering around, doing a combination of trying to relax, considering trying to talk some poor sap into sharing their BBQ with her, keeping a careful and suspicious eye on the ocean, and most importantly allowing the others there to properly appreciate and bask in her incredible presence thank-you-very-much, when the sound of someone demanding something from her jerked her back out of whatever fantasy world she has 'presence' in and right back into reality.]
[Her head turns over to see Rin, and her face goes right into a 'you absolutely must be joking' look.]

OTA.
So... I just hit this melon here?
[ Standing on the beach, a cloth tied over her hair (for her eyes, when the game begins) and a stick in her hands, the blond looks down at the watermelon skeptically. What kind of game was this? Why would you want to completely obliterate a perfectly good watermelon? But apparently it was something that (young) people did. Even still, she'll look up to you for confirmation. ]
♕ o2.
[ Done with smashing that watermelon to smithereens, she nibbled on a bit of the fallen (mm, refreshing!), she hovers over the barbecue area, watching intently. Everything smells so good here, won't someone share? ]
♕ o3.
[ Hey, wasn't this supposed to be a beach party? A place for people to play and have fun? So what is this girl, who is definitely dressed for the occasion, doing reading a book?! That's got to be the most boring looking thing to do at a beach party. She at least doesn't look too distracted to not notice someone come up, however. Who let this bookworm on the beach? ]
♕ o4.
[ And like any good beach party, it ends way too soon, but not without a giant bonfire and, of course, fireworks. The blond flits about excitedly, laughing and enjoying herself (she didn't realize that she liked fireworks this much! They're wonderful!). Someone looks like she's having a good time. ]
Excuse me? Can you show me how this works?
[ In her hand is a sparkler. Help a girl out? ]
4
Ahahah---er. Well. Well! The way it works is, um. You light the end, and then it starts sparking, and you hold it away from anything flammable.

Meliora | ota
[There's a good solid few minutes when Meliora first sees the ocean where it's obvious that she's not quite sure if being anywhere near it is actually a good idea. In the end, she's avoiding the actual ocean, instead finding a nice stretch of sand outside of the surf to flop down on and sun herself. After a few minutes, it looks like she might be having a nap.]
[It also looks like she's napping dangerously close to a game of volleyball. Maybe getting her out of there would be a good plan? That ball landed awful close to her head...]
6.
[Or, of course, there's always later at night. Dancing around a bonfire is fun, and you might see her grabbing someone (maybe you?) at random for a dance. Alternatively, she can be found sitting somewhere with a sparkler in her hand, staring alternatively at the sparkler and then up at the stars above. She's taking a break from dancing to watch sparkly things, but she still has the presence of mind to give a nonchalant wave towards anyone who wanders too close.]
7.
[And of course if you have other ideas I'm always interested.]
5
Meliora had about one second before the beachball would nail her in the face. Lucio had been playing volleyball, and that last spike had not gone QUITE where he intended it to.
Look, when you're as short as Lucio is, that you can get high enough to spike at all is an impressive feat. Being able to aim is asking for a bit much.

Ed Finklestein | OTA
[Later on you may see him swimming, and going all in on enjoying himself in the ocean, or else seeming fascinated by fireworks and super excited to play around with a sparkler--but even then he's trying his best to avoid looking at anyone, because Ed has problems with looking at girls in swimwear.]
[Throughout the day he's wandering around without a shirt though, which reveals one other thing of interest--there's a wicked-looking scar on the small of his back, over where his kidney would be. That's probably nothing, though. Nothing to worry about at all.]
Re: Ed Finklestein | OTA
[ It was bizarre behavior to witness. Not that Tyrnen himself wasn't looking a bit out of place. The girls made him feel awkward and embarrassed, his clothes too stuck out being something that looked right out of 1910 for a trip to the beach. ]
I know they are practically naked, but I've been informed that's quite normal for most worlds so you shouldn't let it bother you. It will just come across as rude.

nobunaga | ota
[Much like everyone else Nobunaga is (nsfw for swimsuits i guess) looking fully beach appropriate on this fine summer day. The very first order of the day is to get some swimming in of course, so she heads for that first...
Already heading in yourself? Then she'll definitely call out it's a race to get in first! Or maybe you're not so sure about going in for one reason or another? Nobunaga's exactly the type to encourage you to take a leap of faith and go for it (she may even drag you in, or push you, or throw you.....)
And if you're already in the water, well...
If she spots you from afar, she'll dive beneath the surface to pop up behind you and grab you all of a sudden, just to give you a fright.]
[2]
[Unsurprisingly, the more competitive angle of the beach experience has caught her attention. Without much warning...or, well, with a warning, she throws a beach ball right at your face. It's just that the only warning is a single-]
Think fast!
[-and to be honest, she's already thrown it by the time she yells that.
Alternatively, she's available for participating in a round of Suikawari. It's just that...what she draws is her sword rather than a stick.
Is it really a good idea to use this while blindfolded...]
[3]
[It's later in the day, although not quite nighttime yet, and she's decided to wind down the rest of the day with some lounging around. Nobunaga can be found on a lounge chair, a table by her side having both a plate of barbecue (taken from some nearby citizens doing their own cooking...) and a drink sitting on it.]
Hey, you.
[Yeah, you. She's pushes her sunglasses down to look over the lenses right at you, kinda irritated.]
You're blocking the scenery. Move it.
2
[Then he notices the ball, and by 'notices' I mean 'takes it square to the face, bowling him over onto his back.']

[Susan wouldn't call herself a chef. Being from...well, a rich, hoity-toity family, she almost never cooked for herself, even eating out when she began to live on her own rather than suffer the drudgery of basic survival abilities. But she would call herself a chemist, and one taste of the sauce is enough to make her shove everyone out of the way and begin adjusting it herself.]
Honestly...the ratios are all totally off...
[Of course, by the time somebody finds her, her hands and collar and chin are covered in sauce. But at least she's fairly confident in what she produced to help.
...And if she thinks nobody is looking, she may be leaning down to lick the sauce off her collar and fingers.]
4
I don't get this at all.
[Those words come from a blind-folded Susan, swinging a stick around. The watermelon is at least three steps behind her. Various NPCs are wisely giving her a wide berth, as she homeruns wings that stick all around, looking for the totally-other-direction target.
Please do not get in her way.]
5
[Finally, something Susan likes doing, when outside.
Absolutely nothing. Which is why she's laying on a towel under an umbrella - she isn't even actually sunbathing, content to laze in the shade. She stretches out her leg. She lets out a sigh of total relaxation.
This is clearly unacceptable, someone absolutely needs to disturb her rest.]
5
[Well, what if her leg has some sand pushed on it.]
Hey. Hold on there, roomie. I'm gonna' bury you, okay?

Sometimes we have battles out on the sea. [ He explains this as the two of them wade out into the water—Bolin's aiming for about waist deep. ] So it's better you learn now.

Teyud za-Zhalt | OTA
1: The watermelon game
Well this was simplicity itself. After a few turns, Teyud homed in directly on the watermelon's location and swung once with a shout. Her swing was spot on, and the watermelon was immediately defeated.
"Was this supposed to be a challenge? It's merely matter of awareness of one's body in relation to the world around it."
2: BBQ
Teyud had gotten her hands on some chicken wings, and was showing every sign of enjoyment. The meat itself was frankly not terribly flavorful, but this "Barbecue sauce" more than made up for it.
"Mmph. Very sweet. It would benefit from something with a modicum of spice to it, though. What animal supplied this meat again?"
3: Look at the fireworks!
Explosives were not very common on her homeworld, and the low oxygen content of the air their made fires of any kind less impressive than they were here. In short: Teyud had never seen anything like fireworks. While children (and the children at heart) ran around laughing with sparklers, Teyud stood further back, staring up at the flowery explosions rippling and cracking across the night sky and watched with glittering eyes. Teyud didn't have anything to say about this one. She was too caught up in the sheer spectacle of it.
Noel Vermillion | ota
[It's summer, and summer means beach! Noel has spent a fair share of time trying to pick a swimming suit to wear until she finally made up her mind. Now that she's all set for the beach party, all that remains is to find a good spot to set her things. There are quite a few people here already, so before she puts her towel down she approaches the nearest person to ask for permission.]
Um, excuse me... is this spot free?
02 )
Ah... I-I wonder if here would be okay...
[That would be Noel trying her hand at the watermelon smashing game. With her eyes covered by a blindfold, she's wandered a little too far from the fruit, though she has no way of knowing that, obviously. She's not even sure if she was walking in the right direction, but this seems like a good place to strike as any, so perhaps it's worth trying.]
Here I go... Hiyaaaaaah!
[Aaaand she takes a swing at what she hopes to be the watermelon. With any luck, it's not your head instead.]
03 )
[Like a little kid in a sandbox, Noel is having a grand time building a... something in the sand. It's hard to tell what it's supposed to be, but it's certainly not a castle in any way, shape or form. If anything, it resembles some kind of an animal, but what could it be? A boar? An overgrown rat? The possibilities are endless, but whatever it is, the girl seems to be satisfied with how it's turning out, humming cheerfully as she adds final touches.]
04 )
[Wildcard option! Approach Noel as she hesitantly steps into the water (or splash her to come faster), join her in sunbathing, play beach volleyball with her, tell her to step away from that barbecue before she ruins it. Or come up with something else. Anything goes!]

The sights and sounds of this waterfront really are quite beautiful, but some of the other stuff about it...isn't...
[ Is he talking to himself while wading in the shallower water? He's talking to himself while wading in the shallower water. Yew won't really elaborate unless asked, though, since there's a time and place for everything, you see, and it is certainly not the time to spout out gruesome historical facts about the area that he'd researched beforehand. However, that still doesn't mean he isn't creeped out just a tad, if only because of his imagination kicking in and torturing him with thoughts of ghosts lurking in the water.
Maybe ignorance really is bliss. ]
Waugh!
[ A crab nips at his toes, breaking the navel-gazing, however, and that, combined with the fact that he's kind of on edge, makes him let out a yelp before he goes down in the water because he lost his balance...it took him by surprise okay!! ]
ii; if you can't take the heat...
[ As the result of simply one more item on his long list of bad ideas he's had in his life, Yew finds himself half-pushing, half-being-pushed through the crowd gathered at the barbecue. His facial expression? One of someone on the verge of crying. One hand is covering his mouth while the other one is shakily trying not to drop his plate of spicy (too, too spicy; he's not Edea, he can't take this) barbecue wings that was just...shoved at him and he decided to try anyway, but so much for that. A sudden push knocks the food off his plate and apparently onto another...person. Oops.
Hopefully nobody around had white swimsuits...? But he'll definitely apologize after getting water/feeling like his mouth isn't on fire. ]

Hakuno Kishinami | OTA
[Hakuno has... well, all sorts of mixed feelings right now. Certainly, it's her first time at a proper beach, and she has a chance to wear one of her new swimsuits faster than she thought she might, but...
A bystander might notice her lingering near the edge of the water, uncertain. Her face may be blank, but there's a strange sort of trepidation in her eyes. Not quite fear, but there must be something wrong, given the fact that she's trying to give herself a little pep-talk under her breath.]
...it's just like a pool. A pool. Don't think of what's modeled after it, it's just regular salt water...
two
Ah... shoot. Can't reach.
[One Catch-22 of her admittedly cute swimwear is that its strapless design and the curved, dipping back leaves that much more pale skin exposed to all and sundry. And, more importantly, the sun itself. She's trying to get at the section of skin between her shoulder blades, dark hair piled up in a loose bun, but to no avail.
Eventually, she gives up and starts looking around for somebody she can ask for help.]
three
Do we... have to smash it?
[Hakuno has a watermelon in her lap, letting the chilled fruit's coldness seep into her legs and stomach. She wrinkles her nose slightly, head canted to one side.]
I mean, can't we just cut it up and eat it? Busting it open like that means the pieces will be smaller, too...
four
[Hakuno is lounging off to one side, one foot tucked up under her while the other swings idly as she watches her sparkler flare and sizzle. The bonfire and dancing isn't too far away, but for now she's content to just sit back and watch, a faint smile on her face.
Her face is hard to read at the best of times, but now it's really inscrutable. Is she having fun? Is she awash in nostalgia again?
Only one way to find out, if you're of a mind to bug her.]
4
He's about to call it a day when he sees Hakuno. She doesn't seem to have noticed him yet, fixed on her sparkler as she is, so it would be fine if he just left without saying anything to her. That would probably be the better option, truth be told - after what happened in the dungeon, he's been taking extra precautions to avoid her. There's no doubt she's noticed by this point. She's not stupid, and if he knows anything about Hakuno, it's that she isn't going to stop her efforts to get his attention anyway.
After staring at her for a few seconds, weighing his options, he sits next to her and puts out what's left of a cigarette in the sand. His Carrier cheeps in indignation from its perch in his hair, displeased with the sudden movement. For all his efforts to avoid even thinking about her, he's still wearing the cloak she got for him.]
Hey, kid. Having fun?
[Notably, he still hasn't made eye contact, but it's?? Better than what he's been doing lately???? This might be the first time he's initiated a conversation with her this whole time.]

Lúcio Correia dos Santos | OTA
1: Can't get fresh in salt-water
Lucio's been chatting up some girl while out in the surf, about waist deep in water. It looked like it was going pretty well for him, up to the bit where the girl laughed at him suddenly, then hopped up to kiss him on the nose before doing a backflip into the water and revealing that she had been a mermaid all along. Lucio stood there dumbfounded and wet for several seconds.
"Yo did that just actually happen?"
2: Beach games
Volleyball! You'd think a short guy like Lucio wouldn't be very good at a game like this.
Turns out that's exactly right, but it doesn't really matter for something like this, does it? A pickup game like this is going to be disorganized at best, and any good plays are by dumb luck.
3: Nighttime music
Later that night, one of the various beach bonfires has some locals with guitars or hand drums just kind of jamming. They also had Lucio sitting with them, wearing the Remixers and using them to adding his trademark weird cobbled together sound effects to give the music a strange counterpoint. At first the locals had been slightly hesitant about just hanging out casually with one of the mighty heroes from other worlds, but Lucio's general friendliness had ultimately won them over.
It helped that there everyone here was slightly buzzed. A scattering of empty beer bottles attested to this. The last song, which had featured heavy amounts of beatboxing, came to a close just as you, the reader, wandered by.

Hey. [ He greets the other Hero with a grin and a friendly smile. ] Can you tell me what this game is?
[ He might not be much of a thinker, but Bolin's always had an appreciation for sports. ]

Lola Pacini | OTA - Will Match Style
B. Fun
C. Choose Your own Adventure
Shunsui Kyouraku | OTA | Will match format!
He'd dressed in some flowery swim trunks with a light green yukata covering them. It was a rather lovely yukata, really, and the light green featured embroidered leaves which darkened the more they went toward the bottom, so the lower half of the garment was a deep, forest green. Shunsui had been immediately taken by it, and it did go well with his bright yellow trunks with the lovely pink and purple flowers!
He'd brought along his requisite bottle of sake, a large towel on which to lie in the sun, and a small cooler of skewered salmon with pineapple and various vegetables with oil and some seasonings, as well as simpler snacks like dumplings and cookies!
He would likely go swimming soon, and help with the barbecue later on, but for now? He just wanted to relax on the sand with his hat over his eyes.
Feel free to come tell him to cover up, he's very hairy even with the yukata and trunks on. And ask him for a drink or some snacks if you want, he'd be happy to share!
Maki ota
It's not Bora Bora but I guess it's alright...
[ A thick book under her arm, a bag over her shoulder, and dressed in a cute new floral bikini Maki is more than ready for a day on the beach. A pair of oversized dark sunglasses with sparkling gems on the rims makes her look like a movie star who belongs on the beach.
Finding a lounge chair she plans to crack open this goddamn medical textbook right here on the beach, sit in the sun and get some nice color.
People might be playing and making noise, but Maki is more than skilled at making her own fun, shutting everyone else out. At least she thinks she is, right up until a stray beach ball or volleyball manages to come her way, spooking the poor girl who screams as it bounces against the side of her chair. ]
Kyaaaa!!
[ And like that she bolts up too fast, and the chair starts to tilt dangerously to one side as Maki swings her arms trying to stop it.
...Oh no she's about to faceplant into the sand isn't she? ]
2 - Mermaid Festa
[ Sometime later Maki might even go into the water and try to wash herself off, grumbling the whole time. But it's sunny and bright and it's so pretty. She can't help but think of all her friends back home that she remembers being on the beach with.
With her back facing the beach, she starts to sing. She doesn't even know why, but the can't help. ]
No, don’t stop, I’m getting hot from you...
[ Who wrote these lyrics?! ]
3 - Psychic Fire
[ At the end of the day a light breeze reaches the beach, making the light from the bonfire dance along with everyone around it.
Maki herself is lost to the music, sliding her bare feet through the sand as she spins and moves her hips. Her eyes are closed, her hands above her head clasped together, knees bending and swaying. As she dances she's not exactly paying much attention to much around her other than the music, which is why she might bump into you, her eyes suddenly opening in fear. ]
S-Sorry!
[ Of course later on she'll be found grabbing some food, or even lightning sparklers... but she can't quite get it to light. She's never used any kind of firestarter like a lighter or anything. Maybe someone could help. Or else she's just going to use a fireball spell... ]
1
Calm down, please!
[It's easier said than done, probably...however, she manages to put her hand on the chair and steady it a little, but will that be enough?]

anna | ota
ONE: strike for love and strike for fear ♫
[ Who let Anna play the watermelon game?? Don't ask questions. But here she is, blindfolded and swinging her bat with the strength of a mountain bear. She seems to be nowhere near the target... ]
Did I get it?? Which way should I swing-- my left or your left? [ Anna swings the bat again, nearly missing somebody's (yours??) head. Somebody tell her that the melon is on the ground. ]
Whoops! Almost got it! [ No she didn't. ]
[ Alternative: YOUR character is prepared to swing and needs to listen to Anna's unhelpful guidance. ]
TWO: there's beauty and there's danger here ♫
[ There appears to be a crowd of athletic heroes and npcs gathering at one particular place, which means Anna (because she's so sporty, am i right) is never too far either. It turns out that it's an elaborate beach obstacle race, with over 40 participants and more should you feel like joining in. ]
Hey! Hey! Wanna race with me?
[ Anna seems eager to participate, already wearing the headband they provided with her racer number. It's 44. ]
WILDCARD!
[ Come at me with whatever! Hit her with a beach ball, be buried in sand, scream about crabs, drown in water... whatever you're doing, she will notice and bother you! ]
1........
No you didn't! It's more...backwards, then left. I mean, your right!
