OPEN! Birthday and squirrel arrival celebrations
Who: Shin-Ah, his not-dad (Shunsui), and anyone else who knows either!
When: Backdated to Shin-Ah's birthday on 1/3!
Where: Shunsui's house
What: A bb dragon has a birthday, and his adoptive dad can't let it happen without spoiling him rotten.
Rating: I can't imagine this getting higher than PG, but will change if needed!
It had taken some time and questioning to get Shin-Ah to share the information, but when Shunsui had managed to get his birthdate out of him, he'd been extremely happy. It was very soon, which meant he wore his poor carrier out sending invitations to the house on the 3rd for a celebration!
He'd made six cakes of various flavors, and had the ingredients for far more should Shin-Ah want them. He'd also arranged for all manner of sweets and treats to be delivered to the house, and had set about making sandwiches, sashimi, and other lunch items for the guests and the birthday boy alike.
As he'd specified in his invitations, Shin-Ah greatly enjoyed food, as well as plush toys. Shunsui had made it his mission to cover Shin-Ah's room with them, so if you need an idea for a present, one of those will do nicely!
He simply requests that guests don't arrive en masse, as that might make his shy, sweet dragon son feel too overwhelmed. It was his day and Shunsui wanted him to enjoy it!
Also, Ao, Shin-Ah's pet squirrel from back home, had arrived not long ago, and the party was meant to be a welcome for her as well! Any types of nuts or food in general would be much appreciated by the newest member of the household!
But yes, come eat, have a drink, and say hello to the birthday boy and the cute squirrel perched on his shoulder.

Shin-Ah the Birthday Boy! - OTA
Shin-Ah stared at the area with all the food and presents. These...were all for him? Really? He'd never heard of such a thing before. Then again, he'd been alone for practically every birthday he'd had. This was the first where someone really had bothered to care enough to...want to celebrate him.
A tear ran down his cheek then. Reaching up, he touched his face. This was...all unreal. Like a dream. He wasn't sure how he could contain all this pure happiness. To be so loved.
Ao and Ao
Shin-Ah was sitting in a corner by himself. Well not entirely by himself. Before him was a blue ball of fluff about the size of a baseball and a cute squirrel. Both were making noises at him as he fed them food off of his plate. There was no smile on his face but he seemed to be rather happy all the same. Content if nothing else.
When someone came over, both the creatures turned then jumped up to land on either shoulder of the person. Shin-Ah gasped softly then reached out but obviously couldn't catch them.
"Ah...Ao...Ao..."
Outside
When one couldn't find Shin-Ah, one could probably locate him outside. Looking out at the water. He wasn't that used to socializing so this was a way of getting away from it all for a bit. Relaxing in the quiet with the sound of water being what filled the air. He couldn't believe all of this had been done for him. Just what had he done to deserve all of this.
Hugging his legs, he sighed gently. Right until he paused and looked back at the person who was coming up behind him with those unusual Dragon Eyes of his. Beautiful beyond imagining and only found right there on his face.
He nodded to the person. Hello.
aoaoao
So it was that he found himself with fluffy things on his shoulders, as his unaffected dog carrier trotted over to sniff at Shin-Ah's plate.
"Ah...." With a plate full of food in his hands, all he could really do right now was stop in his tracks, tilting his head left and right to try to see the creatures. Blue fur...??

"Ah..."
He looked at his eyes some more before looking down, not wanting to stare. Then he gave a bow. "...sorry."
no subject
Someday maybe he'd stop comparing everybody to foxes.
The bow and apology were unexpected though - Naki blinked in confusion, then moved to give a small bow in return. Was that the right procedure here? "It's fine."
Meanwhile, the dog barked. New friend!
no subject
"Mm..." He considered things a moment then looked down at the dog. Letting Ao and Ao go, they went up to rest on his shoulders as he knelt down and patted the dog on the head. It was really nice. He liked dogs.
"...Hello."
To...both of them. Dog and person.
no subject
....He probably shouldn't let the dog do all the convers...ating.
"Do you...like animals?"
no subject
He looked at the dog that he was petting, thought about the creatures on his shoulders. They'd always liked him even when all others had feared him. For whatever reason they'd been willing to come near him despite the fact that he was a monster.
"Yes. Animals aren't...cruel."
He didn't fault anyone for how they'd treated him. Not even a little bit. All the same it still meant the world to him that animals could love so freely.
no subject
A tilt of the head, a curious look. Had he met cruel people before?
Kebiishi, maybe?
Evil futon spirits?
The dog made a whining noise, but otherwise looked perfectly happy, tail wagging, tongue panting, as it enjoyed the petting.
no subject
Oops.
"Mm."
He gave pause then as he realized something. He'd...never said his name. Looking up, he blinked a few times then spoke. "Shin-Ah."
no subject
Instead, all he did was blink back, and tilt his head slightly.
"Shinah?"
no subject
He let the silence hang for a moment before it dawned on him that it might not make sense what he was saying. Oh. Um. Um.
"My name."
Nailed it.
no subject
He nodded in understanding at the explanation, glad to have made sense of that particular mystery.
Another silence, before he remembered he should probably reply.
"I'm Nakigitsune."
A name for a name! Complete with foxhand gesture.
no subject
He held his hand up like that too. Looked at his hand. Looked at the other. Looked at his hand.
Why were they doing animal hands?
no subject
That was a reaction he hadn't expected. For some reason it made him feel sort of self-conscious? Though he couldn't think of anything wrong with doing foxhands.
Um. Hm. Well. Lowering the foxhand a bit, in an 'I'm not sure whether to stop or not' sort of way.
"......It's a fox."
no subject
Look, look. It was okay if he did it. He'd do it with him!
...Shin-Ah liked the fox hands.
no subject
Quadruple foxes! As the dog tried standing on its hind legs to join in the fun.
He might have to stop to pet that dog, after a moment.

Honestly Shin-Ah was just relaxing and enjoying his time with someone as unfamiliar with social things as he was.
a billion years later, outside!
He found him not too far from the stone he'd placed by the lake for Juushirou, sitting at the water and hugging his knees. The nod hello made him smile, and he sank into seiza beside him.
"Too many people? I'm sorry, I didn't mean for so many to come at once."
WOAH
"...thank you."
For all of this.
Yikes, I'm so late, gomen
"You're very welcome. You're a good man, Shin-Ah, you deserve to be celebrated."
He sighed, looking out over the lake.
"Is there anything special you'd like to do for your birthday? Go somewhere? Pick out a present?"
no subject
He'd never celebrated his before. Honestly he would have let this one slip by as well were it not for the fact that this man had been asking him when it was. Shin-Ah really was so happy in this moment, even if he was really bad at showing it to the man.
So, he reached into his coat and pulled out a necklace which he held out to the man. He'd seen it awhile ago but hadn't been able to find a good time to give it to him. Now seemed a good time though. To thank him for everything he'd ever done for him.
no subject
The last thing he wanted to do was pressure the poor guy, after all. Shin-Ah was so innocent and unused to people that Shunsui felt a little overprotective and didn't want him hurt.
When Shin-Ah presented him with the necklace, he had to look away so his tears wouldn't be visible. He quickly wiped his eye with the back of his hand and turned back, smiling as he held his hand out to accept it.
"It's very beautiful, and you're incredibly sweet to give it to me. You really didn't need to do this, Shin-Ah. I don't need any gifts for treating you to basic things, eh? But I'll wear it proudly."
Happy he'd managed to get through it without crying and upsetting Shin-Ah, he took the necklace and fastened it, letting it fall to be quite visible against the center of his chest.

"This day was...always about how I was a curse. To my village. I made sure to hide all day so they would be comfortable on this day."
He was aware it might make Shunsui sad but he wanted to explain things a little. Why he wasn't sure what he wanted today. Why he wanted to give him that necklace.
"You...make me feel good. Like family. So I wanted to...give you something that would make you happy." He squirmed a little, wondering if this was awkward at all. "I can't try to make my village happy today. I wanted to do that for you instead."
Maybe it had been foolish to have been hurting himself to try to make his village happy but he'd just wanted to help them as best he could since they had to have him born to them.
no subject
That didn't mean he had to agree with all of it, though. He held a hand out to Shin-Ah, smiling gently.
"I love the necklace. Thank you so much for giving it to me, it makes me very happy. I think your village would have been happy too, if they'd gotten to know who you are. You're a very sweet man, Shin-Ah."
After a moment, he smiled again.
"You're my family as long as you want to be. Would a hug be all right?"
no subject
So here he was to make sure that he got it. That hug.
He knew that his village never would have been happy with him but that was okay. He never expected them to. They were happier now, could be happier without him around.
"Mm."
