Home on the lake [OPEN as open can be! come visit, Heroes!]
Who: Shunsui Kyouraku and anyone willing to walk half an hour west of Caissa to his new house!
When: a few days after the Grantebryncge Library dungeon!
Where: half an hour to forty-five minutes west of Caissa
What: Shunsui got a house and is going to go try to make it livable!
Rating: None, it's an open house log. He might try to smooch people on the forehead and there could be blood when he tries to decorate, but otherwise we should be good.
OOC note: Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto is meant to serve as inspiration, since the house is close to it in style! It's not nearly as big or ornate, though, and probably not...gold.
The home was more than he'd been expecting, even having toured it several times before applying for his permit and making the purchase.
It consisted of three levels and sat on a lake, reminding Shunsui of the Ugendou. That fact made him a bit sad, but it was nice to have all the same! It was a happy yellow color, and he liked the way the sun seemed to make it shine.
The first level consisted of a large kitchen, lounge area, bathroom with large tub and shower, library/reading room and guest room. It had access in several places to the wide deck/porch surrounding the entire house, upon which rested a small sunroom that he was excited to fill with plant life!
The second level housed three bedrooms, of good size with small study nooks in each. While there was only one bathroom shared between the three, it was quite large and rather nice, in his opinion! The bathing and toilet areas were separate, which was nice since that was what he was most familiar with. He did worry since one of the occupants - or at least, so he hoped! - was a young lady, but there was nothing that said she needed to take a room on that floor. They did have plenty!
The third and final level consisted of a master bedroom, a medium sized office, and a bathroom with shower. All three levels boasted balconies with railings, and he'd made sure to outfit those with comfortable chairs and tables to rest drinks or books on!
It had been rather expensive, but Shunsui had been doing many of the jobs he'd found posted in this world, and for all his carefree attitude, he didn't spend a great deal of money on himself. Never had, really, and now that his drinking had all but stopped...well. He did visit restaurants and bakeries regularly, but he'd managed to charm so many of the cooks that he often spent next to nothing anyway!
Once the furniture he'd ordered (simple but of good quality, beds and desks and sofas and tables!) had been delivered and set up, he decided it was time to open the place up to visitors and guests!
The main door was open, and visitors could walk through the garden he'd started to get to the house. There were many refreshments in the sitting area and kitchen, and plenty of space to relax! Including many, many cushions on the floor, both inside and on the dock.

Which ended up with him staring a bit without really meaning to. The hair that was so red reminded him of Yona who he missed daily, who he constantly asked his ring for when he woke up. But, she wasn't here. Perhaps she shouldn't be...
Sorry, Koumei. He had a bad habit of staring at people sometimes. And forgetting to use his words. That was a thing.

Koumei merely watched the young man in return, curious and not entirely sure of what to do next. A part of him was reminded of his first time meeting his brother Kouha-- the child had been so wild, so ill taken care of, that all he knew how to do was lash out with his sword in anger over how his mother was treated. A child of five at the time, the boy had been so wild that he simultaneously seemed to be older and younger at the same time. The words he used were terribly simple, but the notions he had managed to communicate were terribly complex....
All he could do was offer a bittersweet smile to the young man and hold out a hand.
"My mistake. It seems that you're the one in need of help. What do you need?"
no subject
"I...don't need help. I think."
He hesitated a moment or so before he looked at their hands again. He didn't take his own back but he clearly wasn't quite sure what was happening here."
"I've never...been a host. Before."
no subject
Congratulations. You've taken the first step."
Looking around the place, he started toward what he thought to be the kitchen with his inexperienced host in tow.
"My name is Koumei," he added. "What's your's?"
no subject
"...Shin-Ah."
Koumei. He could remember that. At least it wasn't like trying to figure out which name was the right name with so many of the people that were here.
no subject
"Shin-Ah," he intoned gently, glad that they had finally found where the party was being held at. "That's a nice sounding name. It's good to meet you."
no subject
So the name was really precious to him. For eighteen years of his life he'd had no name at all. Now he had one that he could treasure, an identity all his own. He was more than the Seiryuu now and it...
It helped a lot.
no subject
"Your 'Yona' has excellent taste, in that case. The name is sweet and gentle, much like you are."
no subject
Because apparently he reminded Yona of that. Honestly it didn't matter much to him what his name meant because the fact that she wanted to give that to him at all was what really meant something to him. He looked down and touched the ring on his hand. He missed her so badly. But no amount of feeling for her would bring her to this place even if he tried every single day.
no subject
How odd, and how innocent.
"'Moonlight,' hm? That's quite a particular meaning. You must be quite special to your 'Yona'"
no subject
Sometimes he still wondered why but he was always grateful for it. Shin-Ah felt that perhaps he didn't have to understand it fully as long as she was always happy with her decision. So far she showed no signs of regretting anything that had happened so it was...enough. For the time being.
"To let me finally see the light..."
no subject
It was a story that was oddly familiar to his ears, and he could easily imagine Shin-Ah being taken in by his younger brother Kouha alongside his small army of outcasts. Living by their own terms, seeing the light...
"Have you seen it? The light that she wanted you to see."
no subject
"I've lived in darkness most of my life. Kept in shadows and caves and behind masks. Yona wanted me to be able to...walk in sunlight."
He knew that she wanted him to live without shame but that sort of thing wasn't likely to happen. His feelings about his own eyes were too strong and he looked toward the floor. All the people that he'd hurt and frightened over something that he didn't want. Yet he couldn't blame them for that. They were right to hate him and fear him for existing with these eyes.
no subject
"...you're standing unmasked in the sunlight right now," he said gently. "Surely your Yona would be glad to see that."
no subject
"I...don't have a mask. Here."
He bit his lip then looked at the floor again as he lowered his hand again. "Yona...would be happy."
no subject
"If it was a thing that made you sad, then she must be. No one likes to see their friends hurting."
no subject
He hesitated because he didn't know how to explain properly. His mask hadn't hurt him. It had been the thing that had made sure no one was hurt. There were still days he feared his powers would come back and he'd hurt someone again.
"...I miss it."
no subject
He hummed softly, mulling over this. Clearly, Shin-Ah was quite attached to it for reasons that he didn't yet know-- and doubted he would ever fully be party to, given the young man's odd discomfort with words.
"...It's familiar to you," he said finally. "Anyone would miss it."
no subject
"You're a friend."
Don't mind the subject change. The logic made sense to him.
no subject
That was quite a sudden declaration to give a man who was unaccustomed to friendships being formed so quickly, Shin-Ah. While there had been similar incidents in recent years, both in his homeland and this strange realm, they were far from common.
More often than not, it was a boisterous and trusting soul who was the most likely to declare something like so. The quite ones...not so much in his experience.
Koumei glanced away, feeling oddly flustered by Shin-Ah's quick trust in him.
"If that makes you comfortable, we certainly can be," he said, bobbing his head somewhat in a display of his own gratitude. "Friendships are to be cherished, and I'm glad that you wish to think of me as one."
no subject
"Shunsui trusts you. So you're a friend."
At least he assumed it was Shunsui. If nothing else he felt that the man would never allow this person to come here unless he trusted him. One thing he'd picked up on with the man who had taken him in was that he was protective of those he felt were under his care.
In Shin-Ah's eyes that would make that man's friends his friends.
no subject
"Hmm. Mister Shunsui is indeed someone I've come to consider a friend, so you may be right.
I'm glad to be your friend as well, Shin-Ah."
no subject
Then he was crouched down covering his face because he was blushing.
no subject
And thus Koumei, who had thus far been rolling with all of the social skills he had learned by rote memorization to talk with this young man, found himself at a loss. Truly, it seemed, the both of them were rather unused to social interactions-- and Koumei didn't like putting such a shy man in such an uncomfortable position.
"--Perhaps we should go investigate the lake?"
He asked, promptly turning his back just in case Shin-Ah wanted some privacy.
"It looks quite peaceful out there."
no subject
Which made for a nice awkward moment of them having their backs to each other.
Waiting for the other to answer.
Oh dear.
