Home on the lake [OPEN as open can be! come visit, Heroes!]
Who: Shunsui Kyouraku and anyone willing to walk half an hour west of Caissa to his new house!
When: a few days after the Grantebryncge Library dungeon!
Where: half an hour to forty-five minutes west of Caissa
What: Shunsui got a house and is going to go try to make it livable!
Rating: None, it's an open house log. He might try to smooch people on the forehead and there could be blood when he tries to decorate, but otherwise we should be good.
OOC note: Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto is meant to serve as inspiration, since the house is close to it in style! It's not nearly as big or ornate, though, and probably not...gold.
The home was more than he'd been expecting, even having toured it several times before applying for his permit and making the purchase.
It consisted of three levels and sat on a lake, reminding Shunsui of the Ugendou. That fact made him a bit sad, but it was nice to have all the same! It was a happy yellow color, and he liked the way the sun seemed to make it shine.
The first level consisted of a large kitchen, lounge area, bathroom with large tub and shower, library/reading room and guest room. It had access in several places to the wide deck/porch surrounding the entire house, upon which rested a small sunroom that he was excited to fill with plant life!
The second level housed three bedrooms, of good size with small study nooks in each. While there was only one bathroom shared between the three, it was quite large and rather nice, in his opinion! The bathing and toilet areas were separate, which was nice since that was what he was most familiar with. He did worry since one of the occupants - or at least, so he hoped! - was a young lady, but there was nothing that said she needed to take a room on that floor. They did have plenty!
The third and final level consisted of a master bedroom, a medium sized office, and a bathroom with shower. All three levels boasted balconies with railings, and he'd made sure to outfit those with comfortable chairs and tables to rest drinks or books on!
It had been rather expensive, but Shunsui had been doing many of the jobs he'd found posted in this world, and for all his carefree attitude, he didn't spend a great deal of money on himself. Never had, really, and now that his drinking had all but stopped...well. He did visit restaurants and bakeries regularly, but he'd managed to charm so many of the cooks that he often spent next to nothing anyway!
Once the furniture he'd ordered (simple but of good quality, beds and desks and sofas and tables!) had been delivered and set up, he decided it was time to open the place up to visitors and guests!
The main door was open, and visitors could walk through the garden he'd started to get to the house. There were many refreshments in the sitting area and kitchen, and plenty of space to relax! Including many, many cushions on the floor, both inside and on the dock.

we will never know
"...I...have things? In my room?"
Really? He was given a bed and a chair and a desk and... He was literally allowed to have furniture? Things?
Sorry, Shunsui. He'd literally never been able to have a room to himself that would be made comfortable. The last time he'd had his own room it had literally been nothing but a cave with nothing in it. He hadn't been allowed anything beyond that.

He wasn't able to stop himself from putting an arm around Shin-Ah's shoulders, not having missed how surprised he was and feeling a bit sad that his past had made him react that way. Well, it wouldn't be the same here if he could help it! He wanted Shin-Ah to feel as welcome and as safe as he could.
"It's going to start getting colder soon, so I put some extra blankets on your bed. I haven't decorated anything yet, though, so once you decide what you like we can go shopping in the capital and find you some artwork for your walls! And maybe some stuffed animals, I think you might like those."
Especially considering Ao was sort of a living version of one. Not that Shunsui minded: he had several teddy bears of his own!
"You never need to ask, all right? If you're hungry or want something to drink, you just go to the kitchen and have whatever you want! We can always go shopping and get more if we run out of something, so feel free to take anything at any time."

That seemed rather mean. Did the animals even want that? (Obviously he had no idea they were currently talking about toys here.)
Looking up at the man, he blinked a couple of times. They really had access to...so much. And he was allowed to have it.
"Thank you."
no subject
"Oh! I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. These are just toys, they're made of cloth and soft filling so they're fluffy and look like animals, but they were never alive! Usually children have them, but I find them very comforting to hug at night. And sometimes in the day!"
Shunsui? A huge child of more than a thousand? What would ever make anyone think that?
He just smiled at the thanks, seeing them as unneccessary but not wanting to be rude by waving them away.
"Of course! Thank you for keeping me company! It's a big house and I'd get lonely out here all by myself."

He...was so touched. It was hitting him now that he was wanted like this. There was literally no obligation at all and no unusual bond like he had with the Dragons and Yona. This was just a person who had come to know him and now valued him and...
A tear fell down his face before he realized it. He had a family with Yona and the others but someone outside of them wanting him had been nothing but a dream. Because he was a monster and monsters weren't wanted. Even now it could be hard to see past that even after all that Yona and the others had done for him.
"I'll...I'll keep you company." He sniffed and realized he had a tear on his face. Oh. When had that happened? He knew he wasn't sad. He was so...happy.
a billion years later
He did see the tear, and without stopping to ask permission, he hugged the younger man to him tightly. He didn't know many details of his past, but he didn't really need to. He'd seen many, many things over the course of his life and Shin-Ah's reactions to things were very telling, both about the kind of person he was and the sort of things he'd been through.
Shunsui also knew what it was to be considered a monster. Not in the same way, by far, but being one of the most powerful of his cohorts and boasting one of the darkest power sets in all of Soul Society, it was easy to see why he chose to present himself as jovial and friendly. Luckily, he truly was those things, and choosing to focus on his love of life and all things fun and happy was easy!
"I'm glad! If you want to take your things up to your room, I can show you where it is! We'll have to go shopping tomorrow, but we should have plenty of food for tonight, so eat anything that looks good!"

"...Yes please."
Would it be okay being in his own room again? He'd gotten so used to sleeping with other people in a room with him. Part of him was nervous that this would be lonely like it had been for the fourteen years of his life when he'd been alone in a room. Yet, he did want to try at least. See if maybe it was different when there were others nearby.
And part of him wondered if this made him childish. To be scared to sleep alone again. He really had no way of knowing considering the life he'd grown up with.
Shifting a little, he adjusted his bag and Ao, ready to be shown the room.

"Of course, right this way, young sir!"
Shunsui smiled and led the way up to the third floor, where the only rooms were his own master suite, a compact bathroom and the room Shin-Ah would be using. It was a bit small, but he hoped it was bright and pleasant enough that he wouldn't mind!
"It's very plain right now, but we can decorate it in any way you'd like! We can even paint the walls a different color if that would suit you better."
no subject
"I...have never had a room. That I was allowed to decorate."
He set Ao down and looked around some more. "The cave was just...dark. Empty." That had been the room he'd been shoved into.
no subject
"Ahhh, well, they do say that there's a first time for everything! And this seems like a good time for you to have that ability, I think.
He didn't know a great deal of the younger man's past, and it seemed so rude to bring up such things. But from what little he did know, the boy had been feared for his powers, through no fault of his own. That made Shunsui incredibly sad, because Shin-Ah was one of the sweetest people he'd ever met, and he truly wanted him to feel at home here in this place.
"This room doesn't need to dark or empty, should you not want it to be. It won't take away the memories of the cave, but this place is yours as long as you wish it to be, to do with as you will."
He stopped, then, patting Shin-Ah's head affectionately.
"I'm very glad you're here."

Dropping everything he had, he turned suddenly and wrapped his arms around the older man. There were so many words he wanted to say but didn't know how to. He just wasn't good at talking. But...but he wanted him to know how grateful and happy he was. That he thanked him for this.
He felt tears slide down his face and just hide his face against the man's chest.
These gifts were too precious to him and he didn't know how he'd ever repay this man.

"It's all right," he said softly, trying not to cry himself from all the emotion he could feel in the younger man. "You're a good man, Shin-ah, and you deserve to have a place to live that you enjoy."
He moved them both gently to the bed, so they could sit and look out the window at the lake. The room was rather small, but to offset that, it had one of the best views in the entire house. The lake and the trees on the other side and a bit of the deck on theirs.
"You'll be able to see the sun come up from here, I do believe. Can't promise it since I'm not exactly sure which direction the window faces, but there should be a lot of light throughout the day regardless! And there's a balcony just outside the room door, too. Feel free to go out there any time you like! I only have a chair and a small table out there right now, but we can always get other things later on if you want them."
As he spoke, he kept his voice soft and his hand on Shin-Ah's back.

It felt good.
Opening his eyes, he looked at the sky before looking over his shoulder at Shunsui. When he was a child he'd dreamed of something like this. At that time it had only ever been that. He'd not been allowed any of it and had been told repeatedly that such a thing was impossible.
This...wasn't a dream.
"Will you...be my family?"
no subject
How can he want that from me? He doesn't know what I am, not enough to see the full picture. No one has ever wanted to be my family, family is an obligation not a choice, and he's innocent and doesn't deserve that, all the family I have I kill --
He tried to turn his mind off, to silence the voices of doubt in his mind that were trying to convince him that this entire endeavor was a mistake. Rationally, he knew that it wasn't, but old wounds tended to flare when they'd never been healed properly.
"I would be honored to be your family, Shin-Ah."
The words were a whisper, still slightly uncertain but knowing that he could, and would, overcome the shadows inside himself to protect this young dragon he'd grown so immensely fond of.

There. Comfort.
But in case that wasn't enough, he wrapped his arms around his shoulders so he could embrace him and let him know it would all be okay. He had no idea what was on his mind or what darkness had passed there but he would be there for him. That was what his embrace promised.
no subject
"Thank you. I'm sorry for getting a bit sad, it was nothing about you or us being family."
Because of course the younger man had felt it. He was far too perceptive not to, after all!
"Well! I should probably get back to our guests downstairs. You're welcome to come with me, or you can stay here and rest for a bit if you like. People can be a bit tiring!"
no subject
"I'll come."
If nothing else he'd seen there were plenty of corners and walls he could linger around. That would allow him to have some space if people ended up being overwhelming. It was kind of his default thing to do anyway.
no subject
He said it with a grin, because he really was fond of Shin-Ah and didn't want him to feel that he needed to hide. While he himself was a very social person, he realized Shin-Ah wasn't, although he was quite friendly and probably could be once he learned how to talk with others a little.
And yes, there were plenty of corners as well as rather secluded rooms to disappear to if one needed. Shunsui, with his preference for privacy, had chosen the home with that in mind.

Well as long as someone spoke his language anyway.
