Atsushi
01 - Cooking Tiger
[Today is the day that he's finally worked up enough nerve to venture into the kitchens. It makes him nervous, even though none of the staff seem that bothered by his presence, and nobody has yelled at him that he's in the way and doesn't belong. After a lot of awkward shuffling about, Atsushi seems to have gotten it together enough to get down to what he came to the kitchen for in the first place.
After a bit of work, he can be found happily standing over a rather large bowl of chazuke - tea poured over rice. The steaming rice dish has varied ingredients floating about, too. Pickled vegetables, fish, sesame seeds. It's not exactly the same as he would be able to make back home, but's close, and even if it might not look pretty, it at least smells good.]
02 - Letter go, letter go
[Atsushi has no experience with writing letters. Why would he? He can't think of a single instance in his life where someone might have wanted anything he might have written, let alone a personal letter. Still, even without the promise of being paid for his efforts-- which is a bonus, to be sure, it just feels right to be doing what he can to bring some cheer to those impacted by events in Friedgood.
Even though his handwriting isn't great and he's somehow smeared ink on his hands and face without realizing it, Atsushi is doing his best to put heartfelt feelings into the letters he's composing. As wrapped up as he is in penning notes of encouragement in sloppy handwriting, he isn't that focused on anything else going around him, so he may not even notice that anyone else has approached him unless they speak up.]
03 - Mackin' cheese please
[Vending machines are a common enough sight back home, and while Atsushi generally doesn't splurge on actually buying anything from them if he can help it, he's decided to give it a go, just this once. Free food is best, but he's curious about some of the new treats for sale.
Of course, vending machines don't actually care what anyone ever wants, which is why instead of sampling a bit of a possibly delicious new snacks, he's staring at the machine forlornly. As happens all too often, his purchase has gotten stuck between the glass and the row of food, so it seems to be hovering in front of his face, mocking him. He rests his head on the glass, silently beseeching the machine for mercy.
Silent vending machine prayers are also no good, so should anyone come upon him after far too long spent hoping for treats, they may find him crouched on the ground, arm shoved into the machine up to his shoulder as he tries another tried-and-true method of dislodging stubborn food from vending machines. He can't exactly hide what he was doing, so anyone he sees will be greeted with wide eyes and a guilty look.]
Oh... hello there? I'm just-- it ate my money?
[Obviously.]
[wildcard; come at me, I'm here for all of the things.]
Lavi
01 - Reading is FUNdamental
[Lavi is actually quite pleased with his new status as a Bishop; he doesn't have to feel as powerless, and there's a whole wealth of new things for him to study up on. It's a win-win as far as he's concerned.
While learning to work with his new weapon (an oversized scarf, which must be someone's idea of a hilarious joke, and he's a little bit inclined to agee) is something that only time and practice can help with, he's found that other talents can be put to more immediate use.
'More immediate use' meaning he's built himself a tiny table-fort of books in the library, because what good is being able to read them even faster if he's not working his way through all the endless volumes the library holds? Unfortunately, in his eagerness for reading Everything Ever, he's managed to stumble upon a less than delightful combination of dizziness and blurry vision from attempting to Scan far too much in a short amount of time.
Don't mind him. He's just going to slumped over in his chair, face pressed against the table and eye shut as he tries to wait out the effects. At least he probably won't wind up dozing off in the library again.]
02 - Alchemy 101
[Scanning isn't the only thing he wants to become more acquainted with. While dabbling with alchemy was never something he had seriously considered before getting stuck with the Hero gig, but here he is.
He's found a small workroom in the Hero Hall for trying out a few simpler alchemical creations, though he wisely has the window open just in case of any... accidents. If anyone happens to be walking by, they may hear the clink of metal and glass and steady stream of muttering about ratios and various ingredients. If anyone happens to be walking by a short time later, they may here a surprised yell and a minor explosion.
Thankfully (?) nothing is actually on fire, though Lavi is patting down his clothes because that was a close one. There's a mess of shattered jars and some different powders scattered about, and he's giving the area a considering look.]
Less saltpeter, more sugar? Maybe aluminum or magnesium with this instead...
[This will probably not be his last explosion for the day.]
03 - Can I go with the same title for a different letter prompt??
[Really, how hard can letter writing be? Lavi doesn't write letters; once he moves on to a new record, the people he's met before get relegated to merely being history anyway, so there's never been anyone he would have kept in contact with.
He can see why people would enjoy it though, and there's certainly nothing unusual with people needing a bit of encouragement, especially after recent events. Plus, it doesn't hurt to earn some extra money for essentially just writing things down. He can be found in various areas like the library or roof with letter-writing accessories and a stack of blank pages next to a much smaller stack of folded, completed letters. Judging from the way he keeps letting his attention wander from the task at hand, he's likely due for a break from jotting down encouraging but empty words to people he hasn't met.]

Really? Huh.
[ Not playing into his act, she instead reaches over to twist off the cap, then offers it to him again. Here, she made it easy for you, you can stop being a baby about it now. ]
The whole day? Lavi, something like this would take me at least a week to get through, and I've always been a fast reader.
[ She heaved a sigh, looking over some of the covers. What does he have here? ]
There is such a thing as overstudying. It's terrible for one's health. Although judging from your current state, I hardly need to tell you that.
no subject
Yeah, but I wanted to read everything today. [Because repeating himself will make it a less stupid idea. He's a little offended at the overstudying remark, too. To a Bookman, there's no such thing.
He does crack his eye open, squinting at her incredulously.] You're kiddin', right? That's what books are for.
[Which is why he has such a large assortment. Books on alchemy and its various applications, geography, magic theory, dictionaries, various volumes on the native flora and fauna, a couple of encyclopedias.]
I get your point though. Maybe I could slow down a little.
no subject
Lavi.
[ And there it was, a bit of a scold in her voice. Stop being ridiculous. ]
I know that's what they're for, but I can guarantee you that they will still be there days, weeks, months or even years from now.
[ Because who would destroy books, she thought to herself. Oh, how little she knew. ]
Here. How about this? Tell me where you left off, and I can start taking notes for you while you rest.

He rubs at his eye, blinking, and at least now he can tolerate the slight blur, though it really is clearing up. He can deal with this much, and now he knows he really will have to set some limits if he wants to get anywhere. He eyes the drink she bought, looks at her, looks back at the drink and then grabs the bottle, taking a long sip before setting it down with a grin.]
Thanks. For the drink, and for offerin'. But I don't take notes. Even if you did try 'n help like that, I'd just go back and read it all anyway, so it'd be more work for everyone.
no subject
Even if that is the case, it's hardly a waste of time. After all, two heads are better than one, and sometimes bringing in another perspective helps you notice something that you've missed.
[ So stop fighting her and let her help, Lavi. ]
no subject
Man, you're really determined about this, huh? Never said I didn't wanna study with you, Delux, just that I got my own way of rememberin' things.
[He opens his mouth, so very close to saying something vaguely inappropriate, but reconsiders. He'll save it for anothe time, when he's sure she isn't carrying around anymore bottles to surprise him with.] Besides, I know you're somebody that actually appreciates being able to read all this stuff.
TAKE MY FRIENDSHIP GDIT >:T
I am.
[ Said without any sort of hesitation or irony. This is how it is, whether you like it or not. ]
Which is why I don't understand why you insist on being so stubborn. It's all right to accept help from someone else, Lavi, especially if you aren't feeling well.
[ Of course she's noticed. She had as soon as he slumped, after her admittedly poor-planned prank. ]
That's what friends do, they help and support each other. Get some rest. I promise that I won't yell at you for sleeping in the library this time.
[ Because yes, she's seen him. She knows your shame, Lavi. ]
get a stepladder and fite me!!
I'm feelin' just fine, I just had a temporary setback. How was I supposed to know things'd get all blurry and make me all dizzy for a little bit? Temporary setback, that's all it was.
[Slumping in libraries is just his natural state, it's nothing to be concerned over. He's also not up for playing the blame game with trying to apologize. The fact that they're talking and he's being... him is enough to prove that things are okay.]
I do like not being yelled at, though. [Not that he's the least bit ashamed about sleeping in the library. When it's nap time it's nap time, there's no shame involved, only delicious sleep.] Friends don't yell at friends for sleepin' anyway.
leg sweeps!
But hearing his description, that mild irritation melts away, leaving a look of concern in its wake. Blurry and dizzy? ]
Are you ill? Should I be sending you to bed instead of helping you study?
[ Another sigh. ]
I don't care if you sleep, but where you sleep... Lavi, first of all, it's rude. Second of all, you'll catch a cold, if you haven't already.
