Atsushi
01 - Cooking Tiger
[Today is the day that he's finally worked up enough nerve to venture into the kitchens. It makes him nervous, even though none of the staff seem that bothered by his presence, and nobody has yelled at him that he's in the way and doesn't belong. After a lot of awkward shuffling about, Atsushi seems to have gotten it together enough to get down to what he came to the kitchen for in the first place.
After a bit of work, he can be found happily standing over a rather large bowl of chazuke - tea poured over rice. The steaming rice dish has varied ingredients floating about, too. Pickled vegetables, fish, sesame seeds. It's not exactly the same as he would be able to make back home, but's close, and even if it might not look pretty, it at least smells good.]
02 - Letter go, letter go
[Atsushi has no experience with writing letters. Why would he? He can't think of a single instance in his life where someone might have wanted anything he might have written, let alone a personal letter. Still, even without the promise of being paid for his efforts-- which is a bonus, to be sure, it just feels right to be doing what he can to bring some cheer to those impacted by events in Friedgood.
Even though his handwriting isn't great and he's somehow smeared ink on his hands and face without realizing it, Atsushi is doing his best to put heartfelt feelings into the letters he's composing. As wrapped up as he is in penning notes of encouragement in sloppy handwriting, he isn't that focused on anything else going around him, so he may not even notice that anyone else has approached him unless they speak up.]
03 - Mackin' cheese please
[Vending machines are a common enough sight back home, and while Atsushi generally doesn't splurge on actually buying anything from them if he can help it, he's decided to give it a go, just this once. Free food is best, but he's curious about some of the new treats for sale.
Of course, vending machines don't actually care what anyone ever wants, which is why instead of sampling a bit of a possibly delicious new snacks, he's staring at the machine forlornly. As happens all too often, his purchase has gotten stuck between the glass and the row of food, so it seems to be hovering in front of his face, mocking him. He rests his head on the glass, silently beseeching the machine for mercy.
Silent vending machine prayers are also no good, so should anyone come upon him after far too long spent hoping for treats, they may find him crouched on the ground, arm shoved into the machine up to his shoulder as he tries another tried-and-true method of dislodging stubborn food from vending machines. He can't exactly hide what he was doing, so anyone he sees will be greeted with wide eyes and a guilty look.]
Oh... hello there? I'm just-- it ate my money?
[Obviously.]
[wildcard; come at me, I'm here for all of the things.]
Lavi
01 - Reading is FUNdamental
[Lavi is actually quite pleased with his new status as a Bishop; he doesn't have to feel as powerless, and there's a whole wealth of new things for him to study up on. It's a win-win as far as he's concerned.
While learning to work with his new weapon (an oversized scarf, which must be someone's idea of a hilarious joke, and he's a little bit inclined to agee) is something that only time and practice can help with, he's found that other talents can be put to more immediate use.
'More immediate use' meaning he's built himself a tiny table-fort of books in the library, because what good is being able to read them even faster if he's not working his way through all the endless volumes the library holds? Unfortunately, in his eagerness for reading Everything Ever, he's managed to stumble upon a less than delightful combination of dizziness and blurry vision from attempting to Scan far too much in a short amount of time.
Don't mind him. He's just going to slumped over in his chair, face pressed against the table and eye shut as he tries to wait out the effects. At least he probably won't wind up dozing off in the library again.]
02 - Alchemy 101
[Scanning isn't the only thing he wants to become more acquainted with. While dabbling with alchemy was never something he had seriously considered before getting stuck with the Hero gig, but here he is.
He's found a small workroom in the Hero Hall for trying out a few simpler alchemical creations, though he wisely has the window open just in case of any... accidents. If anyone happens to be walking by, they may hear the clink of metal and glass and steady stream of muttering about ratios and various ingredients. If anyone happens to be walking by a short time later, they may here a surprised yell and a minor explosion.
Thankfully (?) nothing is actually on fire, though Lavi is patting down his clothes because that was a close one. There's a mess of shattered jars and some different powders scattered about, and he's giving the area a considering look.]
Less saltpeter, more sugar? Maybe aluminum or magnesium with this instead...
[This will probably not be his last explosion for the day.]
03 - Can I go with the same title for a different letter prompt??
[Really, how hard can letter writing be? Lavi doesn't write letters; once he moves on to a new record, the people he's met before get relegated to merely being history anyway, so there's never been anyone he would have kept in contact with.
He can see why people would enjoy it though, and there's certainly nothing unusual with people needing a bit of encouragement, especially after recent events. Plus, it doesn't hurt to earn some extra money for essentially just writing things down. He can be found in various areas like the library or roof with letter-writing accessories and a stack of blank pages next to a much smaller stack of folded, completed letters. Judging from the way he keeps letting his attention wander from the task at hand, he's likely due for a break from jotting down encouraging but empty words to people he hasn't met.]

Lavi -2
Is everything all right in here?!
no subject
Everything's fine, just dealin' with a bit of a learning curve. [Why do you look so concerned, bro.] Didn't make that much noise, did it?
no subject
no subject
I was tryin' to start small, a kinda cross between a firework and a little bomb, but I underestimated what a bit of recipe altering could do.
no subject
He pushes at some of the dust with his foot, then glances around for a broom.] You are an alchemist as well?
no subject
[Who needs a broom when there's more things to destroy? There may be one buried under some of the clutter that was here when he found the room, but Lavi hasn't bothered to look all that hard for it.]
Alchemy's something new, too. I obviously gotta get a lot better at it so that I'm only blowin' up the right things.
no subject
Ah--give me a moment and I will help you clean up. I dropped some books outside and I would hate for anyone to trip on them. [He turns to the door, walking just to the entryway to start stacking his books again.] I would offer to help your portable rocket as well, but I am even less qualified to be trying.
no subject
Oh, sorry 'bout that. [Wrecking places is one thing, but making other people mess their things up too isn't going to do any good. He can at least sweep his arm across the work bench, sliding materials out of the way enough to make room for the books if Syr wants to set them there.]
S'probably for the best. I don't even wanna know what kinda trouble I'd be in if I set anybody on fire.

That's why I gotta make sure I know what I'm doin'. [Which he's clearly doing great with so far.]
Basic potions, huh? [Okay, so he could have started off with those instead of aiming for the big leagues, but how else is he going to make progress? He nods to indicate some of the remnants of bombs he's already experimented with.]
Dunno what's considered basic anywhere else, but yeah, this stuff's pretty simple to start out with. Bit of freezing-- froze my hand to the table earlier, bit of your basic makin' explosions of all sorts of sizes, mines with different effects. Y'know, all sortsa stuff for really messing up somebody's day.
no subject
He offers Lavi a quickly smile before he goes to retrieve a broom so start sweeping up the ash and broken pieces on the floor.] Would you tell me about it? Perhaps voicing your thoughts will show you something you did not see that will make your potions work. [A pause.] Or bombs... freezing bombs?
no subject
You really wanna listen to someone drone on about variations in ingredients and all the different permutations every recipe in a book might have? Sounds like the kinda thing that would put me right to sleep. [He grins.] I appreciate it, though.
Oh-- [Right, the other thing.] Freezing bombs! Like the regular kind that explode, only, freezing. [Great.] Y'know, it might slow down monsters if I can get it to work right.

Huh! Mechanical and chemical is what I was thinkin', but involving a bit more magic might not be a bad idea. Bet I could make somethin' really destructive that way.
[Does Syr want a thumbs up, he's getting a thumbs up.] Great idea!
