Synthesis & You ♗ si vis pacem, para bellum
Who: Everyone! General mingle
When: 8/16, when everyone's been called back to Gammon
Where: Gammon, Southwest Cloister
What: With determination to succeed this time high, Heroes have organized a demonstration of armor/accessory synthesis and everyone has been encouraged to learn how to and consider arming themselves to the best of their abilities for the upcoming battle.
Rating: Doubtful to be anything past PG-13

The Southwest Cloister, crowning jewel of Gammon's Blackchurch district. The high archways that line the sun-warmed courtyard provide a welcoming shade that feels cool and smells old and of masonry and dew, reminiscent of things simple and old as stone. A feeling of monastic solitude.
A place one will find anything but solitude as today a large part of it, sectioned off from the usual bustle of tourism by helpful residents and caretakers eager to help the visiting Blanc Heroes prepare, is filling with the uniformed visitors. Or at least the Heroes will have been encouraged to wear their uniforms, or at least the badges bearing their ranks in order to facilitate finding appropriate partners, and to have brought everything they might have recovered from their various missions, no matter how slight or unimportant it might have seemed. Perhaps a Bishop could discern its true use after all.
Perhaps you were dragged here by one of the enthusiastic other Heroes spreading word or saw one of the flyers posted in the The Other Side Inn. Maybe you just followed the crowd. Either way, you're here now and being ushered to either observe as Rin and Saber prepare to demonstrate for the newcomers, perhaps joined by others about to attempt the process themselves. Have the badge of a Bishop? Oh! Might you have the skills of a Scholar then? Don't worry, you're going to be asked to help assist in analyzing some of the more questionable magical components...
A sign has been posted on one of the pillars as well. Anyone who has decided they want to craft an item is encouraged to write there about the rank partner they're seeking, and likewise any Hero wishing to volunteer their assistance with their specializations is encouraged to write them with their name there.
Even the newly arrived Pawns will have been encouraged to attend and learn more—or perhaps to barter with a fellow Hero who can't figure out what to do with that enchanted scale. And who knows, perhaps someone—a friend or good Samaritan—out of the goodness of their heart...

Noel Vermillion ♗ Bishop (Scholar/Drug Creation)
Still, that won't stop her from reaching out to those in need.]
E-Excuse me... Do you, um, need any help? I-If so, I can try...
no subject
[She was hoping that she didn't look too confused, but clearly she does.]
I don't... really have any of my stuff with me, but like... I'd enjoy having some advice. What kinds of things can people make? Anything?
no subject
[Noel waves her hand in a dismissive manner, laughing nervously. She's certain Meliora is just joking, but she denies it anyway, just in case.]
Um, I can't say I'm a specialist, but I've read a bit about synthesis and... it seems it's most commonly used to create things like protective armor and various accessories! Apparently, they can gain a variety of properties, depending on what materials are used...
[She makes a pause, figuring it might be a lot to take in all at once. In fact, she's surprised she's somehow managed to memorize all this information. Is that because she used that "Scan" spell to read it faster? That must be it...]
no subject
Okay, so magic stuff makes more magic gear, which can protect you. I follow you so far... keep talkin'.
This sounds like 'something that keeps me alive.' I'm interested.
no subject
[She taps her chin, humming thoughtfully as she tries to remember any useful insight to offer.]
Using a shell of a tortoise, it's possible to make a piece of armor more capable of taking hits. With a feather of a certain type of bird, you could create a ring that allows you to move faster! And by combining a dragon's scale with a ring, you could learn to breathe fire!
[... Okay, so that last one is the result of her imagination running wild. That's probably not a thing. Although knowing Noel's knack for creating weird stuff, who knows?]
no subject
Wouldn't that make more sense as a tongue piercing?
[When in doubt, crack a joke. She certainly doesn't seem unimpressed, however.]
What about some silk threads? I've got some of that from that spider before... I could reinforce some gear to make it stronger, maybe?
no subject
Ah─ Y-Yes, that's true! That must be it!
[She's just too earnest sometimes. The joke flies right over her head.]
That spider... [Oh, she remembers that one.] I, um, I'd have to see it ─ well, touch it, actually ─ to be sure, but... I think that could work! Those threads were pretty strong, after all...
no subject
[it is a mystery.]
I was just going to try weavin' the stuff into some silk rope or something like that, but if I could use it to make something actually cool... Well, I'm all for that.
no subject
[And... she somehow manages to completely miss the flirty vibe. Wow. It takes some skill to pull that off, yet here she is, oblivious as ever.]
And, um, if you'd like to perform a synthesis using it afterwards, I can assist you with that as well!
no subject
[This Noel is truly a rare person.]
...My goodness, how forward of you. I may have to take you up on that.
no subject
[She's not even entirely sure where the forward part came from, but that... sounds like she said something wrong. She certainly didn't mean to make Meliora feel uncomfortable or anything...!]
N-No! I didn't mean to, um... I-I just wanted to help!
[Still having no clue what's it all about, Noel flails her hands uselessly in panic.]
no subject
--But still, I'm a pure maiden. You're certainly cute, but that sort of thing isn't something I can just do with someone I don't know so well... [She's feigning bashfulness. She's also feigning purity. Realistically, she's neither.]
no subject
[Noel lets out a dreamy sigh, her cheeks turning light pink. Looks like she's finally caught on...
... and then she realizes this is most certainly not what they were originally talking about. The girl is visibly flustered, her cheeks burning with embarrassment this time.]
Wha─ T-That's not what's it about, though!!
no subject
K-kiss, right?
[She even adds in an unsure stutter, looking away with a small blush. If she seems just slightly scandalized, maybe it'll make Noel's reaction more fun.]
no subject
He might accidentally look like a vendor, but these are his earned treasures. A bottle of ever shimmering water. The fearsome, curved fang of a venomous snake. What looks like a wrinkly lizard's tail, brown and dried up. And a beige lump of something that can only be described as used chewing gum. This dungeon treasure is looking like a bunch of odds and ends, Potemkin has been puzzling himself by thinking how they would fit together.]
Noel? I haven't heard about your specialization. I could use your guidance on how to make use of any of this.
[Potemkin extends a flat hand, as invitation to sit down with him.]
no subject
A-Ah, to be honest, I was only promoted last month... So, um, it's not like I'm a specialist yet...
[Self-advertising isn't her strong suit.]
But... if you'd like, I can try and see what I can find out about these!
[The girl glances at the assembled items. A few months ago she'd have assumed they couldn't possibly have any practical use, but her recent research in the library on both synthesis and alchemy has taught her to be more flexible in her thinking. Granted, she didn't quite understand everything she read, but it feels like she has a decent enough grasp on how it all works to try her hand at analyzing the properties of Potemkin's loot.]
May I...?
no subject
[Potemkin has confidence in Noel even if she doesn't. With that Potemkin drops the hideous, shriveled up once-piece of something into Noel's hand.]
Once, another Bishop, who had the ability to see all facts of an objects, determined that this had Salamander Tail had the element of fire within it. We didn't get any further than that before he went home.
[He doesn't mean to suggest Lupin actually went to a nice farm, even though what really happens to disappeared heroes is still unknown. That's simply the explanation he chooses to believe. To the argument's credit he has seen with his own eyes people leave and come back.]
no subject
Scanning... Scanning... Scan complete. Object identified as "Salamander Tail". Element: fire. Properties: ability to burn anything; strong resistance to fire. Possible uses: creation of bombs of fire element; enhancing armor and/or accessory to prevent fire damage...
[She makes a pause, trying to determine whether there's something else she can add, but that appears to be all she can draw from it.]
Um... I think that's all, as far as I can tell...
no subject
"Uses" immediately catches his interest.]
A way of preventing fire damage would make many situations vastly easier for me. Fire is no longer on my side like it once was.
[Potemkin thought he had gotten over the ways the mana of this world had changed his abilities, but he just let out a subtle complaint. Did you know he used to be able to tank swords? And bench-press weights this big...]
