[ As they stroll toward the business district, where shops selling a myriad of different products (such as cute, fashionable wear, cosmetic and household items) line the streets, Kija and Vietnam will find it the place particularly bustling today. Or, it would be more right to say that the place is packed to the brim, with people pushing and shoving and climbing over each other. It's quite a rowdy crowd indeed. At first glance, one might even assume a riot was happening. It's nothing of that sort, however. A quick glance at a store's sign will reveal the reason for this chaos: 'SALE! Everything at 70% off!'
All the other stores were also sporting such signs, even if the employees inside only seemed to be greatly regretting putting them up at all. Apparently, this part of town is closing up soon, and the stores are racing to clear up their stocks. It's all 'Buy one, get two free!', or 'Everything at only $1.99!'. What is this travesty, of course people are shoving each other to get to the goods??
Kija's a little ... afraid, but he also knows how much Vietnam likes cheap stuff. Cautiously, he glances at her. ]
Do you see anything that you want? [ He does want to buy her something nice as a thank you gift for helping him before, but is this worth it ...
[Her eyes really shouldn't sparkle this much at seeing quality goods at discount prices. After all, they must save as much as possible being foreigners in a different world themselves. There's something over there that Kija probably would like! Too bad she doesn't realise Kija wants to get a gift for her too.
She's quickly (but elegantly?) gesturing towards the store with nice clothes and fabrics.]
[ Yup. He called it. Those sales sure are making her eyes sparkle. Kija's gaze turns to the direction Vietnam points at. It's a quaint little clothing store sporting the latest in lolita fashion for men and women!! At least, it would be quaint if people weren't fighting over petticoats and screaming at each other ... ]
The clothes look quite comfortable ... [ He has zero fashion sense but he's assuming that since she's asking him about that store, it must have something she's interested in! Okay, guess they have to brave the chaos after all ... ]
If you are interested, then I suppose ... we can step inside.
[So lolita clothes are truly his taste...although he'd always look handsome in a nice suit, which they have plenty of! With frills and such, but he's a prince. He'd look classy in them.]
I am sure they have good cuts for your body too. [Spoken like someone who sews clothes as a hobby, for certain. So she nods in agreement and will go with him as soon as he's ready.]
We must stay together. It seems to be quite...busy. [Should they hold hands, she wonders?]
Do you think so? [ He does need some new clothes, but really, Kija would be fine wearing anything. Why not get something while it's all on offer!!! Too bad it looks like they'll have to fight tooth and nail for what they want. ]
It does. To be honest, I am quite wary... [ It looks like some of those people would rip an eye out for cute garterbelts. Staying together sounds like the Thing To Do, though. He wouldn't want her to get lost and accidentally trampled on.
-- Nervously, he shows her his hand. ] I-If it is fine with you, we can join hands. That way, we will not get separated so easily.
[Exactly, this is the best time to get something! But she's sure they'll be fine. They're both strong Rooks, nothing will stop them. They just need to make sure they don't lose each other.]
Ah, I can see why you think it is dangerous, but do not worry. I think you're strong!
[And they can heal each other! And they might be the ones fighting, so all should be well? Sure she's a little tiny...
She takes his hand as offered, and holds it warmly and firmly, so that he doesn't have to feel nervous at all.] This is fine, no...?
[ He doesn't think he can stop being nervous but it is nice to hold hands with someone. He can feel her warmth and mana radiating toward him. At least, with the people kicking and screaming at each other, he'll probably be too distracted to think about the handholding later on. ]
Yes. [ He swallows ... ] Let us go in. [ And brave the unknown!!! ] Stay close to me, I do not want you to get trampled on.
[ we discussed what we're doing on plurk, i dont have to waste my limited brain power writing it out
In the quest for inspiration for the exhibit they need to put up, our heroes find themselves in Gisela, on a bit of a birdwatching adventure. They're here to study the behavior of the kiwis, their habits and their mannerisms, and maybe even bring home a souvenir or two for the exhibit. Hopefully, what they learn will give them more of an idea on what they can create for the museum!!! They've got all the equipment they need: a pair of binoculars, some paper and stationary for note-taking, and some snacks for the hike. The both of them are pretty much all set!!
With some luck, they do manage to find the first kiwi bird - a small, lone one that's pecking at the ground to get a worm out. To Kija, this animal is both strange and sort of adorable - it's nothing like he's ever seen in his life, and that makes it very exciting to watch. In fact, he can feel some of that inspiration pouring in immediately! ]
Perhaps ... if we presented our sketches of the birds to the museum!
[ Picking out a pen, Kija starts to draw the bird, his strokes bold and fired up. He's determined to capture the essence of this strange and beautiful creature! ]
[ WHAT IS THIS ADORABLE TAG, GOD!! (reimi proceeds to die off-screen...)
Ah, but Setsuna is equally excited! He's never personally went bird-watching before in his life, so this new experience with his dear comrade is indeed something to look forward to. He'll do his best to pay attention and learn, so that Kija will also enjoy the experience and they can together submit something worthy.
Once Kija begins to sketch out the bird, Setsuna quietly cheers him on. He's by his side, watching how the drawing is created and... Well, despite is quality, the Knight is still impressed!! The effort and thought counts more than the results!! (Except the results matter more, but these two are idiots.) ]
[ They are indeed idiots. There's no way this drawing can be submitted to the museum. Still, Kija believes in himself and his meager talent, and he's pleased to find Setsuna impressed with the drawing as well.
But wait ... what is this thing that Setsuna had mentioned? ] A doughnut? That does not sound like a kind of bird. What is that?
[ They didn't have doughnuts back in his country. Kija's probably already seen those pastries around the town but he's yet to put a name to them. Setsuna is welcome to draw him this doughnut..... ]
[ There's a pensive pause when Kija asks. It's not that Setsuna is surprised, it's that he's trying to think of how to explain it. After meeting so many Heroes with different backgrounds from different worlds, a Hero who hasn't heard of a doughnut is no longer surprising. He can relate too, as there also many things that he's yet to know and understand. ]
Yes, it is not a bird. It is a round-shaped bread. The most common type of doughnuts are the sweet pastries... The others include savory sandwiches suited for tea time or lunch.
[ And Setsuna indeed draws them for Kija! His skills aren't amazing either, but it's enough to display their varied appearances.
[ OKay, so now there's a badly-drawn bird and a doughnut on this piece of paper. People are going to find it so strange when they present their 'sketch' to the museum later. Kija watches attentively, curious about this treat. ]
Oh! Those hole-buns! [ HOLE BUNS ] I have seen them around Caissa, but I did not know what they were called!
[ As they talk about something completely unrelated, the kiwi is just ... walking away. ]
[ This is a disaster... But it's okay, maybe they can still redeem themselves later on! For now, they might as well do what they can and see what materials they manage to come up with altogether.
And as if that isn't sad enough, Setsuna doesn't even find Kija's word choice strange. Doughnuts are clearly buns after all, buns with a hole! It's not wrong. Anyway, with Kija learning, the world is (un)fortunately spared from the menace of hole buns. ]
Birds like bread, do they not?
[ OH WAIT, IT'S STILL RELATED. REJOICE. ]
I do not have doughnuts with me, but I do have toast.
[ As someone who's only been to a beach one other time in his life (during the previous beach episode, that is) Kija isn't that equipped for it. For starters, he's still quite unfamiliar with suntan lotion and cannot quite appreciate the importance of it. This - coupled with the fact that he's been sheltered and pampered for most of his life and possesses some pasty-ass skin as a result - makes for quite an inevitable consequence.
As he moves across the shoreline, Kija's head feels heavier than ever been, and he finds himself staggering a bit under the weight of the heat. His skin that's usually fair now looks heavily flushed - red, actually, a bit like a lobster - and he can feel it sting all over from how hot it was. Basically, this is a classic case of s sunburn. Kija's never had one, however, so he has no idea what's going on. ]
What is happening? It feels so hot ...
[ It's so hot that he's starting to feel a little light-headed, and he falls back a little like the delicate loser he is. ] Oh ...
That's what happens when you're out in the sun too long.
[ Sakura, on the other hand, knows exactly what happened. She's relatively fair herself, but being someone who is outdoors quite a lot and also a medic, she recognizes a sunburn when she sees it. She's also someone who has little sympathy for what she considers foolishness and it doesn't actually occur to her that he might not know that being out under full sunlight for hours on end is not good for you.
That doesn't prevent her from reacting when he stumbles, hands up to catch his shoulders before he can fall. ]
Is that why I'm feeling so -- [ Hot, heavy and dizzy!! Kija rests against her hands for a second, before realising that he's troubling this complete stranger and pushing himself off. ]
A-Ah, I am sorry. I am quite fine, do not worry about me. [ He should ... probably get out of the sun, like she said, though. He really isn't feeling too good! ]
[ And without further preamble, Sakura takes him by the shoulders again and leads him away from the surf and the sun and towards a line of trees at the other end of the beach. She might be a nurturer at heart, but that doesn't mean she has any time for nonsense. ]
Y-You do not have to trouble yourself -- [ This is making him feel awful, troubling a random stranger! But not as awful as the sun was making him feel, probably. She was right to pull him into the shade, though. He feels SO MUCH BETTER LIKE THIS. ]
I am Kija, the White Dragon. [ And his right hand is a claw, if she hasn't noticed already. ] I do not think I have seen you around.
[ She basically... ignores the first thing he says, waving it off, mostly because she's heard some variation of it a million times before. Sometimes from people who were literally dying. This is far less trouble.
Instead, she furrows her brows curiously. ] The White Dragon?
[ Is that some kind of title where he comes from, or is he literally a dragon? The claw isn't the weirdest anatomical anomaly she's seen on a human, so she can't be sure. ]
[ Should Shinjiro walk by the room Q102, he'll pick up on one very alarming ... scent. For starters, there's a bit of smoke, as if someone's left the stove on and forgot about it. He's not going to just ignore that, right?? SOMETHING'S ON FIRE!! ]
Ehhh?! NO, IT CAUGHT FIRE!!
[ Some dumbass left the stove on and forgot about it... ]
stop calling him a potato.....what did i do to deserve this
[ Shinjiro had been on his way to visit Aigis - a quick check-up, nothing more - but he's derailed by the scent of smoke in the air. Backtracking takes him to a closed door, still pristine and cool to the touch, and he's about to forget about the entire thing when he hears it.
The sound of an idiot crying for help.
Kija's voice is unfamiliar but the words certainly aren't, and it's with quickly growing concern that he slams the door open—to the sight of a stove on fire. ]
[ Ah, his cranky vegetable hero is here. Good, because Kija's pretty much panicking around the fire as it burns bigger and hotter. He's not equipped with the knowledge on what to do with such a situation, and he can't bear to run or the communal stove would be ruined (which is the least of their problems??). ]
It ...It slipped my mind that it was still on!
[ WHAT DOES HE DO
Kija starts to scramble about, looking for water he can douse over the flames. ]
[ Worry more about yourself and not the stove, Kija????
But never fear, cranky potato is here, swearing under his breath as he dashes through the room and towards the fire, berating Kija all the while. ]
That's why you don't leave a stove unattended after you turn it on, idiot!
[ Seriously, did he never go to Cooking 101 or what. Thankfully the fire hasn't spread too far, making it easier to manage. The burner's turned off first, and the nearby wooden cutting board hastily placed over the burning pan (yep, there's a pan now because I say so). Shinjiro watches with trepidation as the flames subside, eventually fizzling away into nothing.
I was not gone for very long! [ Well, he's had chefs cooking his meals for him for most of his life, of course he would have no need to go to Cooking 101! As Shinjiro does his thing, Kija is still stressing out and searching for something to douse the flames with. ]
Here! I have found water! [ Or tea, specifically. Someone else's tea. It's rude to take what isn't yours, but he doesn't have much of a choice right now. Not realising that Shinji had already killed the flames, Kija splashes the tea over the stove, some of it also getting all over Shinji's clothes. ]
Why is this happening to him, he's a (mostly) good person, he doesn't deserve this. For a long moment after Kija tosses out some stranger's tea willy-nilly, there's just silence. (Also some sizzling where the tea had managed to douse a few remaining flames.)
And then: ]
Have you ever been in a kitchen in your life? You don't put out a fire with a cup of tea!
