[open] when the lives we lived are only golden-plated
Who: Shinoa and you
When: The end of June- after the June war log
Where: Lasker
What: On break at the Soul Train job, and Shinoa gets herself quite a few haters. No one said everyone had to take on the blame for the other train.
Rating: Likely discussion of death and things?
[The civilians don't hide that they don't appreciate the Heroes being here. So Shinoa doesn't hide that she doesn't appreciate being here either, stony-faced as she hands out blankets and relief supplies.
As far as she's concerned, they've done what they were told to do. Blanc's upper brass just happened to screw up their directions. She resents that the civilians are taking it out on her- understands, to some extent, but draws a line between a comrade hurling accusations and a civilian who knows nothing of a soldier's life- and well, fifteen is not the most mature of ages. Some tavern owner charges her triple for a glass of water on her break and she has had it, damnit.]
Oi! What is your problem?!
[She slams the countertop with a lot more force than her size belies. The owner snaps back a derisive retort. People frown and shake their heads.]
This is how it is in war, do you think giving me this kind of attitude will make me magically be in two places at once? Save people that can't be saved?! I've got dead friends and family too, what gives you the right to spit on me?
People die! Suck it up!
[And there she goes. If you don't catch her here -or back at the handout stations- after her last hour on shift she'll be on the outskirts of Lasker, training angrily with her scythe.]

he's interrupting her training because of course he is
[ The smooth, vaguely amused voice from behind Shinoa belongs to the man who is clearly her favourite samurai, Assassin aka Kojirou. Clearly her favourite person ever. He's just here to hang out and make sure nothing happened, as he's not the type of person who's very much good at giving comfort to grieving widows and children wondering where their parents went. ]
I saw your performance in the tavern. I can't say public relations was ever my strong suit, but even I can tell that wasn't helpful.
[ Really though, he's not too bothered. He cares far more about the way Shinoa's swinging her scythe about. ]
Re: he's interrupting her training because of course he is
[You're her only samurai so far, so don't get too happy.
Shinoa spits the words out, still clearly in a mood most foul. The end of her scythe shaft THUNKs against the ground, the fire on the blade abating.]
You're going to lecture me about morals? If you are, save it.
A glare for you, Mr Kojirou.

[ They also die when they are killed. Kojirou's not too fussed about that. They were given a mission, they succeeded at it. Whatever mistakes were made were not made at the hands of the heroes, but of their commanders and the military team who failed at securing the other train.
Would it not have been more prudent to split the heroes into two teams? But it seems they are not really trusted. ]
But the person it helps least is yourself. Unless you intend to switch classes to Berserker, flailing about in anger won't get you very far.

[Hear the sincerity? Hear how thick it is? Oh, sorry, that's actually sarcasm.]
Did that come off as me trying to get somewhere? Maybe you missed the ninety-five percent of me actually doing trying to get places at the refugee supplies station?
[Exasperated huff.]
I lost it, I know. You dissecting it after doesn't do anything either.

[ No, not him, who is so far removed from what most people feel. Who has been brought up in a time of war, and taught to harden himself for the inevitable. Certainly not him, who enjoys the actual fighting far too much to be sorry that a war is happening. ]
But well, what is done is done. There's no use crying over that. I was mostly concerned about your training. Thrashing about like that could barely reap grain, much less lives.
[ He's exaggerating, okay. He has Standards. ]
no subject
"Thrashing" isn't detrimental to one's skill level, is it?
[Huffs, but she's simmering down a little.]
no subject
[ Look, Shinoa, he believes you, but he also believes all training would be good training. ]
Besides, it isn't often you'll have someone of skill to look over your moves.
[ Kojirou means himself. ]
no subject
[She looks around, genuinely baffled. Skill? Koujirou completely passes under the radar. Oops.]
no subject
[ srsly Shinoa, srsly. ]
I'd like to think I've fought hard enough to be acknowledged as a decent fighter, if nothing else.
no subject
[Oops.
Repentance is clear on Shinoa's face. As clear as ink in a cup of paint, at night.]
I guess, but I haven't seen enough of your skills to consider you better than me.
[Shinoa doesn't give respect easily, it seems.]
no subject
[ YOU WANNA GO, GIRL? HE'LL GO ANY TIME.
Or not, do whatever. ]
no subject
[Oh.
Oh man- luckily Shinoa's antagonism isn't directed towards Koujirou specifically- she mulls it over, frowning.]
You want to spar in the middle of Lasker?
no subject
[ Antagonism aside, Kojirou really just wants to test his skills against as many people as possible. ]
no subject
So... here, now? Do we wanna have rules or something?
no subject
[ He's just going to remove the long wooden sword strapped to his back slowly, more than ready for battle. ]
no subject
[with a small sigh, he tosses a couple of coins to the waitress who had been serving him and quickly trots after Shinoa. he waits until they're outside, away from the prying eyes and ears of the Lasker residents, to call out to her]
Oi! Shinoa-san!
Wait up!
no subject
[Shinoa slows, but does not stop. She is not in a fine mood.]
You wanna take a piece out of me too? I'm not in the mood for preaching.
no subject
C'mon. Do I look like the kinda guy who preaches? Tch! I'd save that for actual ministers.
no subject
[Finally she stops: hands on her hips, her voice a little less furious than before, but still with an audible edge to it.
She's kind of having a bad day. Tread carefully.]
no subject
Actually, I just wanted to see if you were okay. You looked kinda ticked off back there.
no subject
[Her expression belies how unexpected this reply is.]
Eh, I'm still in one piece, as you can see. I just need to spend some time where the locals don't gossip about us....
no subject
That's all. What's with the look of surprise?
[of course, he didn't have the heart to be angry at the residents of The Shield himself. . . he understands their pain, their hurt, and their desire to find a target for that hurt. whether that target deserved their ire or not]
Why don't we take a walk, then? Explore the city, check out the sights? If you haven't done so already, heh.
no subject
[She shrugs, looking the other way. What- altruism isn't... common around her circles, okay? It's weird for concern to come outside her own squad, which isn't very big in this world.]
Eh...we could... is there anything nice to see around here? I haven't toured.

[Kaito no]
