A. Who thought it was a good idea to give him a water gun I mean seriously

[best. job. EVER]

[that had been the very first thought Kaito had when he saw the job request on the Hall of Glory's bulletin board, but getting paid to basically spend a summer afternoon engaged in a city-wide water gun fight sounded even better in the wake of the investigations in Lasker. it was a good way to relax, unwind, and try to get his mind off of whatever it was Noir had waiting on the horizons for them. even the most vigilant and dedicated of heroes needed a break, after all]

[which is why this particular afternoon, Kaito darts across the rooftops of Caissa's buildings in search for other Dance of the Drops festival participants, intending to snipe them with water attacks from a safe distance away. if you happen to be out and about and participating in the lively water fights, well. . .]

[you might find yourself getting drenched by a stream of water from above. unless you're quick enough to use a bit of magic to turn Kaito's watery assault back onto him, that is. how rude!!]

B. Trust the bishop

[are you hanging out in the Hall of Glory courtyard today? because if so, you might find yourself being flagged down by a spiky-haired hero. he has a satchel slung over his shoulder, which chimes with the sounds of glass objects clinking together every time he moves]

Oi, oi! Got a second? I'm trying to test something and I need a couple of volunteers.

[and before you can ask for more details, he reaches into his bag and pulls out a small glass vial filled with a strangely colored liquid. it looks like water colored with food coloring, actually]

Could you drink this and tell me what flavor it is?

[well that sure is a sketchy request. do you trust him??]

((BISHOP SHENANIGANS TIME!1 Drinking the vials of liquid could cause one of the following four mild status effects: hiccuping bubbles, speaking only in rhyme, being turned into a cat, or SHOUJO VISION i.e. hallucinating shoujo bubbles, rose petals, sparkles, etc. each effect will only last for an ic thirty minutes since Kaito's potions are fairly weak! if you tag this prompt let me know what, if any, status effect you'd like your character have o/!))

[HA. Kaito lets out a snort as he plops a light blue potion into Ed's palm]

Darn right you owe me one. D'you know getting hit with even a mild lightning spell kinda hurts?

[it had felt like he had just stuck his finger in a light socket or something. not a pleasant experience at all. . . he's just glad that he hand't been permanently injured]

Yeah, I've got an idea about that. Maybe two or three...

Er--sorry for that, by the way. [He scratches his cheek, popping open the top of the potion and drinking it.]

[the light blue liquid goes down easily, just like drinking water. except this water has a blue bubblegum taste to it. it's kind of delicious, actually!]

Eh. Don't mention it. Noir's sorta known for using underhanded tactics and magic, anyway. You can consider yourself forgiven.

[Kaito flashes Ed a grin as he watches his fellow hero drink the concoction without hesitation]

Sooooo? How's it taste?

Like bubblegum. Blue bubblegum--it's really good!

[Burp. That sure is a pink bubble outta nowhere.]

....Ohmigosh was that a potion?!

[oh boy, look at the way Kaito's expression lights up in delight when Ed says the potion tastes like bubblegum. this sounds like a resounding success!]

...weeh?

You mean [Burp. green!] it's not supposed to [Blue burp!] Do this? [RED!]

[idly reaches out to pop one of those bubbles with his fingers. why is this happening]

Huh.

At least I know what the side effects of that recipe are, now.

[in other words, no the potion was not supposed to do this. oops]

What's it supposed to do? [Burp, purple.]

Just taste like bubblegum.

[he hadn't intended for the potion to have any actual effects. he just thought it'd be a good idea to infuse some flavors into his concoctions. bubblegum flavored antidotes! raspberry flavored sleep potions! there was a wellspring of mixtures and combinations he could come up with, if he could get the recipes right]

[with a thoughtful "hrm," Kaito reaches into his bag again and pulls out a small leather-bound notebook]

I'm gonna need to put you on observation for the next couple of hours, to see how long it lasts.

[fuhrinkaed]

If you can make a lot of those, you'd make a killing selling those! Even this is pretty good! [Every few words are punctuated by multicolored bubbles--now coming out a few at a time.]

A-and it still tastes like bubblegum on the way up, too. For the record.

'M not sure people are gonna want to buy flavored drinks that make them burp up multicolored bubbles.

[he flips the notebook open and begins to jot something down on the first empty page he reaches]

Well, I mean, I would! It's cool! [Belllch.]

Look at that! Five bubbles! Five!

[red, orange, yellow, green and blue. . .]

S'not that cool. Trust me. And it seems like it'd get obnoxious after a while.

[fuhrinkaed]

Well, b[uurp]bbles aside, maybe you can pay me back for the help? [He puts a hand to his chin, grinning.]

See... I've got a bet going on with a friend of mine, involving which of us will be able to out water-fight the other. So for that, I have to make sure I can fling water around.

Weren't you doing this to pay me back?

[he glances up from his notebook to quirk both eyebrows at Ed, before he returns to jotting down his notes]

Are you asking me to teach you how to cast a water magic spell?

[fuhrinkaed]

I was testing it to pay you back, but now there's bubbles, so we're not [burp] even, and so now you're teaching me to make up for it.

It's bartering! [Nodnod.] Just a little one, though, I don't want to overdo it and run out of mana--and Susan's tenacous enough to go for hours.

[carptricks]

[snaps the notebook shut and reaches out to bonk Ed on the head with it. lightly! of course]

Truthfully, I don't know any water spells. I only know fire, wind and healing. The rest of my mana, I pour into the medicines I make.

[medicines, potions, same difference]

Aha... so it's up to me.[He flinches, but laughs because he sees it as an affectionate gesture.]

[He thinks about it.]

Well, how about healing? I can figure out water--I did it back home so I might be able to make it transfer now that I know fire.

[AHA. . . the one spell Kaito needs to work on the most. not that Kaito would turn down the request for help, of course.]

It's really a matter of figuring out what works for you, anyway. Everyone's magic is different, after all. [hm!]

You got a small cut or a bruise I could demonstrate on?

[wait he needs to clarify]

Er... Hm. [He looks himself over, burping occasionally.]

I do not. Maybe we could find someone in need of assistance?

[the notebook disappears back into Kaito's satchel, and he gives his head a shake]

Nah. I'm still a li'l scuffed up from some encounters with Noir back in Lasker. Here. . .

[he rolls up one of his sleeves to reveal a shall scratch running up the side of his arm. it's nothing serious, something that'll completely disappear within the next few days, but it's perfect for what he wants to do]

[with a deep breath, he holds his free hand over the scrape, fingers twitching]

[Ed watches the process with wide-eyed wonder. It's magic, so please explain it for realzies.]

[He lives for this stuff, after all.]

[he's mumbling something underneath his breath as he focuses his concentration on that hand. something that sounds a lot like man, I really need to figure out a good incantation for this spell, I mean I know it works but that's only because I stand here begging it to work, come ooooon please work you've worked before I know you can work now. . .! and then, quite suddenly, a warm light suddenly glows underneath his palm. it spreads across the scrape, knitting the rest of it together until the cut practically disappears into nothing]

. . . there! Like that. Magic in this world is all about knowing what you want to do and then willing it to happen. Hand gestures and incantations focus your concentration and make it easier to will your mana to channel into a magic spell.

[fuhrinkaed]

....So like Cass's way of doing magic... [He mutters it, mostly to himself.]
