Training at Sunrise

Who: Tieria and YOU
When: May 9th, a day AFTER Intro Log
Where: Caissa, Coastal District
What: Tieria organized a mass training session, hideous ensues?

If you made your way to the location, you're already one step closer upon completing your training because this part of the beach is the furthest away from any settlement or port and also the hardest to find. You probably found it by following other heroes' trail, or you're those who stumbles around until you found it or you're actually one of those who went scouting before the actual day.

Either way, congratulation for making it this far ( puns completely intended ). Surrounding the rocky beach is an even rockier cliff. Be careful not to stumble or you will find yourself in need of healing. Thankfully, there are Kings ready to make a guinea pig out of your healing needs around. Your training will be held on the round rock-carved deck overlooking the beautiful sea or on the less rocky stretch of the beach, depending on your Trainer's choice. If you're lucky, your Trainer might even have you hike up that rocky cliff. You may even treat yourself to Caissa's fantastic sunset if you made it up there in time!

In any case, once you've arrived at sunrise ( or rather when the sun has risen sufficiently over the horizon because you're that bad with direction or has no sense of time ) and is done catching your breath, you will come to a notice pinned on the tall fences that tells you to tie a ribbon ( in the buckets, also tied to the fence ) corresponding to the training you wish to partake in on your arm.

Stamina ( GREEN ) ✽ Endurance ( ORANGE ) ✽ Weapons ( BLUE ) ✽ Magic ( PURPLE )

The notice will also instructs those who volunteers to be Trainers to tie a different set of ribbons, with black stripe over the four corresponding colors, on their arm to help differentiate them and the course(s) they're instructing. Of course, if you turn out to be a terrible Trainer, Tieria will rip that ribbon off you and very possibly shoves you into the sea.

There are no training weapon available because you're supposed to bring your own magic weapon.
If you forgot, you can either run back for it or pick a different course.

There's also a clause in very bold red letters that forbid killing. Break it and you will be broken in return.

[ Well, he did promise that he's going to practice his weapon with Setsuna, and so here Shinn is, with his book looking kind of awkward as this kind of weapon is not his natural preference of weapons. ]

This book, [ holds up the book, cover worn, Setsuna can barely make out the phrase 'Fifty Shades of Noir' ] disrupts mana flows of other creatures when it's opened and immediately drains my mana starting from that moment.

That's not the problem, though.

[ After all this time, Setsuna is no longer phased to see unconventional weapons... Especially not after Tieria's majestic glass slippers. Certainly, a weaponized book isn't much of a shock at this point.

As a person with strong memory, he clearly remembers the warning he was given. The book apparently discloses extremely inappropriate quotes. But that doesn't matter, not when they have no choice; this is what they have to work with. ]

I know. Apart from its crude nature, is there any other I should be aware of?

Yeah, it's that if I leave it open for too long it'd continue sapping me. I... don't really know if there's actually a limit to how much mana it drains.

[ And Shinn... being Shinn, well. ]

I want to find out if there's a non-conventional way to use this weapon without leaving me a drained husk of a man by the end of a fight.

[ Setsuna takes a moment to think about the specifications of Shinn's weapon. It appears to have an area of effect, but it consumes an intense amount of mana. It's certainly something that should be used situationally for the drawback alone, as running out of mana at the beginning of a fight or during an inconvenient scenario wouldn't do at all. ]

I believe that you will know when the time is right. You have a reflex in battle, so it should not be too complicated when your instinct calls for it.

[ That said, ]

Please get ready. We will do this by traditional means.

[ If they're having Shinn hone his weapon reflexes, then the best way is always to practice. ]

Alright.

[ Thankfully Shinn didn't only bring the book for training, he has also come equipped with the sword he plundered from the dungeon. He hasn't found a good replacement for it yet, but at the very least it works. ]

Well, only one way to find out, I guess...

[ No nonsense as usual, Setsuna distances himself from Shinn so they can begin. He changes his stance after walking to a respectable vicinity, preparing himself to take on the younger pilot. He stares out with his eyes, indicating in silence — don't hold back. The more effort is placed in this session, surely the better the results will be later on.

Setsuna didn't arm himself, as he's not here to win against Shinn. He's here to take the boy's attacks and deflect them repetitively, until the younger pilot would either run out of mana or improve in performance — whichever would come first.

When Shinn appears to be ready, Setsuna gestures his hand to signal for the boy to come at him. ]

[ The moment Setsuna made the signal, Shinn immediately lunged at Setsuna for a horizontal slash. Shinn's fighting style with a sword is admittedly completely instinctive, with no form to speak of, as well as relying completely on his sword's strength. It's quite easy to dodge, and at the same time, if one gets hit by it, it would probably gravely injure them.

...Normally, such a brutal slash shouldn't even happen in a spar, but Shinn trusts Setsuna's combat power enough that he feels the other person shouldn't have trouble with it. ]

[ Due to Shinn's formless gestures, it's challenging to predict where the boy's instinct would lead him. But its downside is that it's too reckless; it sacrifices movement for the sake of power, making recovery more difficult. Setsuna shifts aside with minimal wasted movements meanwhile, concentrated on reading the younger pilot's offenses. As predicted, he easily dodges the first attack.

Setsuna follows up with attempting to knock the sword out of Shinn's hand. He takes advantage of the low recovery speed and immediately thrusts a flat palm to slam against the younger pilot's wrist. If he doesn't endure the pain and grasp his weapon well enough, then he'll surely be disarmed in a matter of seconds. ]

[ Thankfully Shinn's grip on things is really strong (as if he doesn't want to lose anyone else), so the pain from the palm strike caused him to flinch momentarily as he immediately turned to do a roundhouse kick aimed at Setsuna without even missing a moment.

Shinn's resilience in battle translates to him trying everything short of cheating to get his opponent to admit defeat, and it's clear he's not holding back, just like Setsuna asked him to. ]

[ To shield the kick, Setsuna swiftly steps back and uses his own forearms to block the impact. Covering his upper body, he folds them upright in a defensive move. The impact does serve to stagger him backwards, but he doesn't lose footing nor is his position changed. He has much of a firm stance in place.

Once the impact fades, Setsuna right away counterattacks with a leg sweep while Shinn's foot is still in midair. With only one leg to knock down, the chances of this succeeding is high unless the younger pilot acts fast, or at least recovers himself after the possible impact. ]

[ Shinn realizes the second Setsuna counterattacks that it's going to take a lot more than this to make the other male lose his footing, and therefore decided to take the leg sweep Setsuna attempted. Wincing slightly at the force that caused him to start to fall without balance, Shinn grimaced a bit as he threw his sword upwards by a short distance upwards and pushed both his hands backwards as he fell, catching himself before using the momentum to transition into a backwards roll.

Catching his sword the moment he finished his roll, Shinn charges forward again with a horizontal one-handed swing, his right hand slowly reaching towards his book. ]

[ Responding to the swing, Setsuna drifts back and flips to escape the blade's swing. After landing on his feet, he right away straightens to propel forward, intending to push the younger pilot back with the collective velocity.

Setsuna does notice the boy's right hand movement, but as he isn't certain of what he'll respond with, he instead attempts to overtake the boy's move with the upcoming push. Lunging two hands forward, he thrusts it to Shinn's chest with an impressive force. ]

[ HRK! The shove was enough to throw Shinn off balance from his charge, but as he was flung backwards, Setsuna can catch Shinn smirking as the book fell onto the ground on its spine, opening from the force of the impact.

Immediately, the sound of a screechy old man could be heard as Setsuna can find Shinn covering his ears. ]

With lustful eyes he turned towards me, sizing me up as if I'm a prey to be eaten. Lacking the ability to speak, I just whimpered as I looked at his... pulsing rod.

"Don't worry, baby," He whispered to my ears, voice smooth and silky like satin, and yet rumbling with eagerness as well.

"I'll be gentle."

[ Was Setsuna ever ready for this kind of thing? Nobody knows, but there's one thing for certain, the more Setsuna hears these quotes, the more his energy is being sapped into the nether. ]

[ Before Setsuna could even wonder why Shinn is suddenly grinning like that, the magical book drops at his feet, flips open, and unexpectedly starts talking. His eyes widen as he takes a few steps back, caught off-guard as he didn't think the book would be used against him in this manner. Each word that runs through his ears causes a disturbance against him, especially effective to a mana-sensitive Rank as the Knight. He twitches in place, trying to endure what ever effects is taking over his mana flow.

Setsuna remains stubbornly standing out of willpower, but it's increasingly encumbering him as the perverted voice keeps talking. He may be blushing now. No, he really is blushing. What the hell is happening!! Actually, he knows what's happening... He knew this could possibly happen, but what is happening now are all beyond his imagination. So this is the weakness of his Rank, huh... If the mana is affected this way, it easily overwhelms him.

However, Setsuna isn't about to let this defeat him. He remembers what Shinn told him... The weapon has a significant mana drain. If that's the case, then he only has to hold on for a while longer. He won't be able to attack while he's like this, but he can still hold his defense. He keeps stepping backwards now, putting distance between them as he keeps himself together as much as possible. ]

Without even waiting, he kissed me in the mouth with those luscious lips of his, his musk overtaking me now that he's this close. At the same time, his well-build hands started opening my blouse.

Ah, this truly is bliss, but... wrong. After all, we're...

We're brothers in all but name.

[ Shinn's currently moving to finish the fight by charging at Setsuna, feeling his mana draining rapidly with each indecent quotes, but thankfully his status as a Pawn meant that a disruption to the mana flow doesn't cause him much distress compared to Setsuna.

Wh, what's happening. IS HE HALLUCINATING. Setsuna tries to focus his eyes, but the mana disturbance surrounding him is causing lies against his sight. The beautiful scenery of the beach is being distorted into something else...

Something he doesn't even want to imagine.

Shinn is closing in to attack, but all Setsuna can see is a dramatically altered Shinn. Said altered Shinn is ripping his shirt open before his eyes, looking on with an expression no one dares to write about. "We're bothers in all but name." ... Oh, damn. DAMN. ]

Wa— wait a second...

[ THIS IS A HALLUCINATION FOR SURE. HE NEEDS A KING THIS INSTANT.

Ah. Altered Shinn is beginning to unbuckle his— ... NOOOO.

Out of desperation to end the illusion, Setsuna lets out a scandalized scream before he starts tossing whatever he can get pick up by his feet. Rocks, seashells, debris from the sea, glass bottles, tree branches, crabs, sand — nothing is spared. ]

DON'T COME——!!

[ But what kind of come. ]

[ WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!?

This reaction is definitely one that he has NO IDEA on how to respond to, considering that he's never even heard Setsuna scream like that before.

OR EVER. The objects definitely made their mark on him as now his goal is not a matter of reaching the young man in time to sock him in the face, but to get to his weapon in time before the other male completely snaps!!!

Doing a diving jump at his book, he's going to slam it close the moment he gets there...! ]

Oi! You okay!?

[ Despite the book closing, the active effects of the mana distortions are still causing internal chaos on Setsuna's mana signature. As a Knight that is so close to surrounding mana, much more than others, its effects are heavier on him — especially as he is an Innovator that is biologically sensitive to the flows of life.

Setsuna can barely hear what Shinn shouted back at him, instead he collapses against the sands as he embraces himself tightly, attempting to overcome the distortions as much as he can. It isn't that easy. He may be a veteran Hero, but he isn't a veteran Knight. How does he subdue this sensation? He curls up, remaining on the ground for a while longer. ]

[ Shit, shit, shit. This kind of reaction to mana disruption is definitely new enough for Shinn that he had half the mind to call out to either Tieria or Allelujah since they're probably the only two he knows right now that's at least close to Setsuna, but...

HOW THE HELL DOES HE EXPLAIN THAT TO THEM no wait Tieria actually probably knows what happened since he showed it to him, BUT STILL AAAAAAA
