DUNGEON ♛ SALAMANCA TEMPLE
20 MARCH (NARCISSA) 2016
Once a grand place of worship for the ancestors of the Alfersa, the thousand-year-old ruins of Salamanca Temple returned to their full glory overnight. However, it also seems to be teeming with ancient reptiles long thought to be extinct. As the Heroes enter, it’s clear that the multilevel temple is a prime example of the artistic achievements of its time. The rooms are lush with plantlife that creeps in between the cracks of marble tiles and statues of Gladia with serpents at her heel, and the walls are covered in paintings and bas-reliefs depicting a famous epic about the Alfersa’s victory over all reptilian creatures.
The majesty of Salamanca Temple almost makes one fact easy to forget: it was most infamous as a site of magic… and human sacrifices.
Our Heroes know that there’s only one way to get out of here: find and defeat the boss!
Lisbrand I’m sure you’re all aware, to some extent, that in addition to the war with Noir, Blanc must deal with threats within its own borders. These are what we call dungeons, and we only have a basic working understanding of them. Think of them as natural phenomena. Your task is reconnaissance and retrieval of the mana cores believed to be hidden in the deepest part of the structure, but you will likely encounter resistance. [a gesture to her side] Secretary Verdoni has more details about the nature of the structure. Secretary, if you would. |
|
Verdoni This is Salamanca Temple, a sacred and important site of cultural heritage to the Alfersa. Grand temples such as this were supposed to fill the devout with hope, but the Gladia of old was not always a benevolent goddess. Gladia’s Alfersan cult was infamous for its taboo sacrificial rituals. As a result, this temple is shrouded in frightening rumors and legends. Over the course of its bloody history, many atrocities were committed over the most trifling matters... The most famous is the tale of Moura Serpente. Perhaps you Heroes will have the chance to personally witness the truth behind these hallowed walls. |
|
Lisbrand Our scouts are incapable of exploring the structure the way this task force can. Therefore, you will be the front line in this mission. Your issued magical weapon will grant you immediate access to the temple once you approach the entrance. [and just to be safe, she gestures again. some of the Blanc soldiers who have tagged along for support functions march their way towards the appropriate door] Base camp will be established just outside the temple, in the event that you need to leave the area. |
|
Verdoni Which means that the Airy will be here for a while. Once you finish the dungeon, you are free to retire to your quarters. If you don't feel like riding the ship again, then walk. The journey to Caissa on foot will take a week at most. I suggest heading north to spend the evening at the city of Polgar. I suppose walking is a good thing for you Heroes; we will not always have the luxury of air travel. |
|
Lisbrand We will be breaking camp in the evening to rendezvous with Airy, so if you are not out of the dungeon by that time, you will be walking back to Caissa. [a pause] But I expect a number of you will do so anyway. This country is on full alert, and traveling by foot should be relatively safe inside our borders, but I hope I don’t need to tell you to be vigilant. I will expect all members of the task force back in Caissa by Lathrya 8th. Heroes, move out! |
Basic info on the dungeon can be found here. Dungeon mechanics can be found here. All OOC questions about the event may be directed to the thread below.
When you enter the temple, the flooring is surprisingly weak — wait, no. That’s a trap. And those are your screams.
You land in what seems to be the vast and sprawling corridors of the temple’s basement: dark, dank, and full of rats. But it’s more than just that — the smell of blood is thick in the air, and every so often, you might hear cries of agony. Magic circles, dried blood on ornate daggers, and tables with unspeakable tools for keeping mouths shut and human limbs in place… something tells you this is exactly what Verdoni warned you about.
MONSTER ♟ Lizardman | ||
Weak against None |
Strong against None |
Immune to None |
Men cursed to roam Enprise in a LIZARD-LIKE FORM by the goddess Gladia. Some conspiracy theorists say they aren’t cursed. In fact, their kind was the first to inhabit Enprise before the Alfersa arrived on a giant spaceship! But locals will squint and silently judge if you honestly believe this.
These ANGRY, ARMORED lizardmen are equipped with BLADED WEAPONS and their surprisingly exceptional prowess in COMBAT. Their TOUGH SKIN and SHARP SENSES set them apart from your average human soldier. If you grab one by the tail, he’ll simply chop it off and grow one right back! But you might want to go ahead and take the risk — in alchemy, LIZARD TAILS are known for their regenerative properties. Their WEAPONS, SMELLY ARMOR, TAILS and LOINCLOTHS may be acquired as loot. |
Once you make it back to the first level where the laity worship, you’ll be met with... more lizardmen. But not all hope is lost! Find the switch on one of the many life-size Gladia statues to open the hidden door behind the altar and proceed. The switch’s location may vary for each party.
TWO ♙
Only the clergy may enter the higher levels of the temple. Before they do, they must wash themselves in the pools of holy water that flank the entrance. These pools are so rich in mana, bathing in them will even replenish your own. As you splash around, you realize you’re not alone. Red and black lizard-like creatures emerge from the depths of the pools with eyes alight with fire and smoke blowing out of their nostrils. Looks like they woke up on the wrong side of the bed!
MONSTER ♟ Salamander | ||
Weak against Water |
Strong against Ice |
Immune to Fire (except salamander fire) |
In Enprise, salamanders are not amphibians, but FIRE-BREATHING reptiles the length of crocodiles. They have sticky pads on their feet that enable them to CRAWL UP WALLS and LEAP on unsuspecting victims. We hope your spars with the feathered inhabitants of Airy prepared you for this.
When COOKED, a salamander’s MEAT can BURN ANYTHING that consumes it. However, it can only be cooked with SALAMANDER FIRE. It’d be wise to keep one alive to cook the rest. We suggest using the FLAME on the tip of its tail — less teeth and much safer. The SALAMANDER PARTS and MEAT may be acquired as loot. |
At the other end of the room, there is a door with… teeth? That breathing sound isn’t your imagination; the door is very much alive and will chomp at anything that gets too close. Time to get creative. Behind the door is a staircase to the next level.
THREE ♙
Among the rooms on this level filled with treasures of wines, weapons, gemstones and gold is a large shrine with an imposing 20-foot tall statue of Gladia, a thick needle, pieces of cord and a scroll rolled out on a raised pedestal. Written in old Chernovian are instructions in poetry that varies for each party: Heroes must make a necklace out of the eyes of snakes and offer it to the statue. Those who did their research will be familiar with this practice: by doing this, you are giving her all your bad luck and having her bless your journey ahead.
You’ll need all the luck you can get because the moment you finish reading the scroll with your eyes, hundreds of snakes begin to slither out Gladia’s eyes, nose and mouth.
MONSTER ♟ Alfersan Snake | ||
Weak against None |
Strong against None |
Immune to Poison |
The SNAKE PARTS and VENOM can be acquired as loot. |
Once the necklace is complete and offered to the statue, the statue will turn, revealing another staircase to the next level.
FOUR ♙
Men weren’t the only ones punished by Gladia. One thousand years ago, the priestess Moura grew envious of a higher member of the clergy, whom everyone preferred over the selfish, narcissistic Moura. What did that woman have that she didn’t? Consumed by these negative thoughts, Moura transformed the woman into a snake and chopped her into pieces for Gladia, praying that the goddess would hear her plea.
In an instant, Gladia answered: “All your life you have lived a lesser being, so a lesser being you shall become!” With these words, the goddess cursed Moura with a head of full of venomous snakes. Ashamed of her appearance, she locked herself up in the temple to fully devote herself to Gladia. They say that Moura lives up to this day, waiting for Gladia to grant her salvation...
As our Heroes enter a large, circular room at the top floor, they will see a desolate young woman muttering the prayers beautifully inscribed in gold leaf on the walls. Olive skin, pointed ears and amber eyes — there’s no doubt that she is Alfersa. As she raises her head and meets their eyes, she greets them with an eerie, twisted smile.
And so do the snakes in her hair.
BOSS ♟ Moura Serpente | ||
Weak against Fire |
Strong against None |
Immune to Poison |
![]() PRAYING to Gladia — even if by just talking or asking her for anything — will grant you a temporary RESISTANCE TO POISON. MOURA’S ARMOR and TOMES ON STATUS MAGIC may be acquired as loot. |
You may exit the temple by going back the way you came or jumping out the hole Moura’s serpent made. Falling to your death won’t be a problem — the giant serpents of the temple see you as their new masters. They will catch you and let you hop off their backs once they reach the ground.
FIVE ♙
Salamanca Temple is in a secluded area, so the Airy is parked at an open meadow. Walking back involves cutting your way south across the jungle and crossing the river. We hope you brought a map and a compass! Both are available for purchase on the Airy. The Airy will leave for Caissa on the evening of the 20th. It will arrive in Caissa on the 22nd.
For those who want to explore, the jungle gets thicker as you head north until you find winding stone paths that lead to the city of Polgar.
LOCATION ♟ Polgar | ||
![]() Although Polgar is a city relatively untouched by Blanc’s technological advances, it remains one of the country's largest urban centers due to its TOURISM. The city is home to the ALFERSA, a matriarchal society similar to that of the Amazons, in which men are often relegated to housework and manual labor. Most Alfersa believe that machines are no replacement for good hard work and prefer to live alongside NATURE, though small clockworks and machinery do exist in certain parts of the city. TROPICAL FLORA blankets Polgar and its architecture. There are many TEMPLES and SHRINES here dedicated to Gladia, Lathyra and Oubliette, all well-kept as the Alfersa are proud of their heritage. For the gods, their faith does not waver. Some of their festivals last entire months, with the celebration moving from shrine to shrine in resplendent procession. Polgar is also a popular tropical GETAWAY; its spas, resorts, restaurants, hot springs and brothels are all well-known and high-class, staffed by beautiful men and women and catering to all preferences. |

Predictably, the bike absolutely tears through armor and scale alike. This was it, the weapon they needed all along, and Setsuna has employed the wisdom of show no mercy to its fullest. The creature screeches and writhes in agony, and its swings turn blind—both a blessing and a curse, as the arcs become more unpredictable. And eventually, it lands a hit, as it goes down in a pile of shredded flesh and guts.
Its weapon sinks into Gilgamesh's arm, perhaps in a final act of rebellion, and he gasps.]
Ah...!
[It hurts, it hurts, it hurts. It hurts more than it should, more than he can ever remember feeling in his lifetime. Such was the sacrifice of lingering too close, he supposes. At least it didn't cleave through to bone or too far past the surface, but blood gushes between his fingers as he holds his hand tight over the area.
The damned lizard continues to twitch. Is it still alive? Fury overtakes Gilgamesh, and he starts to stab into its exposed neck, again and again and again, shouting in rage and making a complete mess of what now is quite obviously a corpse. It doesn't seem to matter.]
How... dare... you... attack the King... so brazenly... you worthless... MONGREL...!
[Fortunately, the King will recover. It looks worse than it is. But for now, a bit of his madness shines through. It is harder to watch than the wound itself.]
no subject
Vietnam knew that this was not going to end as well as they would've liked. They're both too reckless, and the monster itself wasn't going to die without bring one of them with him. She knows Setsuna would be fine. His weapon would give him a quick getaway. Gilgamesh on the other hand needs to get the hell back. But it was too late to warn him. And she knew exactly what he was worried about that made him so angry.]
Gilgamesh! Stop moving! It's dead now! You have avenged yourself!
[Even though really, Setsuna had already shredded it to bits. Her voice was firm, because the more he does this, the more he will damage himself midst his anger. Her charge towards him was probably reckless, but she deemed it essential. She stops just behind him, feet firm on the ground, so that should he try to attack her out of mad reflex she would only need to duck and parry.
Without warning, she grabs his wound to pin his movement (sorry Gilgamesh, bear with it) and mutters an incantation. Healing spells could only do so much when she has no mastery of it. But if she can stop the pain? Even just the bleeding? Vietnam will take that chance. She brought first aid, but she'll play by the rules for now.
Also, she's pretty sure that three basic heal spells does better than just one. As soon as she was done, she leaps back.]
Setsuna!
no subject
Vietnam's sharp voice goes through the air, as if stepping in for the words that Setsuna couldn't say. Her strong and admirable gestures further remind him of a companion from home. It easily makes him soften, glad that she is here with them. And upon being called, he understood right away what she wanted him to do. So he drives closer before getting off his weapon temporarily. After removing his hands off the handlebars, he transfers the two of them over the King's injury instead. It was a good decision to study a bit of healing magic, as it has proven to be constantly useful in this world. Like Vietnam however, he has no mastery of it — but it's more than enough to further soothe their King together. He concentrates as he casts and holds that holy spell against the wound.
And when Setsuna finishes, he looks up at the King's face in his familiar silence. That's a side of him that he's never seen before. He doesn't know to feel about it, it's as if a completely different person in that maddening instance. "... What happened?", his eyes ask though his voice doesn't say. He stares at him in that unsaid concern. He worries if Gilgamesh would require a temporary rest before they move on. ]
King...
no subject
Gilgamesh feels his consciousness waver, not because the wound ails him, but because he's at a loss. He's in shock that he could ever fall prey to such weakness. Always, always he was the predator, the strongest on the battlefield, absolute King, but one swipe was all it took. One swipe, and Gilgamesh suffered for his arrogance in assuming he could still do anything and everything just because he willed it so.
He heals, of course. He doesn't fight it, how he's spun and pinned in place. With both Setsuna and Vietnam focusing their energies on him, the injury closes as if it never were. He feels rejuvenated, but he also feels ashamed, as if he could ever know such a thing. He was the party's self-elected leader, after all. What did they think of him now? Some posturing buffoon who couldn't even stand up to the slightest bit of challenge, some madmen who couldn't control himself? He looks to Vietnam. He looks to Setsuna. He schools his expression flat, tries to hide it all behind a familiarly stoic veil.
He does not hang his head, because he refuses, but it's reflected in his tone nonetheless.]
So this, then, is mortality.
[Poetic words from the mouth of a humbled King. As the saying went, gods didn't bleed, and yet.]
...we press on.
[Gilgamesh composes himself. He puts the moment behind him, he once more leads the way. But it's a moment that neither of his comrades are likely to forget.]
no subject
But really, Gilgamesh need not worry about what she thought. She understands all too well what this spells for them, as she too was an immortal. But she has felt pain, and bled. She has taken blows that would kill a human, and endured it. Because countries cannot die. At least not until that country dissolves.
She looks over at Setsuna, giving him a quiet nod of the head and then flicking her gaze over to Gilgamesh, so that he can follow. They can rest once they're out of this room, for now, let Gilgamesh have this moment.]
It hurts us. Mortality. [Vietnam walks on after them, her tone gradually getting softer than it was before.] I apologise if I was rough-handed, after all you did to protect us. It was...impulsive.
no subject
Setsuna listens in continued muteness, trying to understand both his comrades's words. It's true... Mortality does hurt, but it isn't necessarily entail a bad thing. Because it reminds them to live, it reminds them how precious life really is, and how it can display a person's true strength... That struggle that indeed humbles a person, making them realize the things they never did before. He understands these all too well, as a person who struggled to live on. He observes their expression, Vietnam's, Gilgamesh's... Eventually, he watches the King and the country walk away.
Had these two met him a few years back, Setsuna would never been able to understand why they're feeling like this. Isn't it normal? But... now that he's no longer a human, he's able to step into a world that he never thought he would ever be in; the world beyond humanity — although despite everything, he never wanted to forget. He didn't want to be considered as anything else but human. He was so touched... when the King called him that, even though he knew that it doesn't apply to him anymore. But he wanted to keep on believing, in his heart that he hasn't forgotten. He will never forget what he's been through to reach the point where he is now.
What can he do for these two now, who are both struggling over the concept of humanity? From where he is, he eventually voices out as he watches their distant backs: ]
Your mortality... Even if it should hurt, you still have to face them.
[ But...
Setsuna hurries on his steps forward too, grabbing the handle of his bike as he runs to catch up to the two. He stands in-between them soon enough, glancing at both of them once more; staring with those bright eyes of his. ]
But you do not have to face them alone.
[ This is... something he's learned, too. Because he's always been supported by those around him, he learned. And he wants to extend these feelings to both of them. They'll make it out of here together. It doesn't matter if it's scary or if it'll hurt... They'll return to Caissa without fail. ]
no subject
They discover the hidden door behind the altar, and it doesn't take much longer to find the switch—a double-ended contraption that Gilgamesh and Setsuna toil together on until there's a meaningful click that signals their success. Gilgamesh remains quiet throughout, even if he's still turning over those words in his head, you do not have to face them alone. Yes, he recalls that strength he found faith in earlier. Perhaps...
Gilgamesh's eyes flicker to the door once it groans open, appear the slightest bit more resolute. Even if he won't make an outward display of it, both Vietnam and Setsuna's sentiments weigh on him. Setsuna's good intent, as ever, is not misplaced. For the King, it simply takes a bit longer to work through and process, especially in pensive moods such as these.
They walk, they walk, and they walk. They encounter no more enemies, which undeniably all present are grateful for. For as boisterous as he'd been earlier, Gilgamesh offers no conversation now, lost to his thoughts. A faint trickling catches his attention, breaks the silence, and fills him with a strange hope. He looks to his comrades to confirm it, that he hadn't just imagined it in his stupor.]
Do I detect a stream?
[More than that, maybe. Gilgamesh jogs, then outright runs ahead, and he nearly gasps as his vision's filled with brilliant blue.]
Could this be mana?! And from the water...
[Gilgamesh cannot be kept down for long, so it would seem. He calls back for them, excited:]
Look, look! Luck smiles upon us! You both must come quickly!
no subject
As for Gilgamesh, she does not say more or push for anything. Sometimes, silence is louder than words. The fact Gilgamesh, a proud man, did not say anything meant a lot. He did not outright dismiss them. He told her once, he was going to prove himself. She believes it.
The trek forward was thankfully uneventful. She has never been one to think of silence as awkward, and she knows Setsuna, her roommate, was the same. So she walked onwards, alert for any potential attacks, and wondering what her next plan of attack is now she is low on mana. Perhaps she shouldn't transform her oar back to normal.
That was until Gilgamesh spoke up.]
Hmm? [He was already running ahead, and she raises her eyebrow as she looks to Setsuna. A discovery? Wait--]
Mana? [She ran after Gilgamesh as soon as he calls out to them, and finds him standing before the pool.]
Is this what it looks like? [Mana pools. She's never seen them before. But whatever this area is, the pools themselves were rather inviting.] How beautiful...it looks like a nice place to rest!
no subject
Once they've walked a significant distance, Setsuna blinks along with Vietnam when Gilgamesh's mood suddenly shifts into a more excitable one. It really is quite endearing, to think that a fountain of mana is enough to make the King so childishly joyous. He almost smiles along with Vietnam, but he resists the urge. He didn't want to let his guard down despite the current mood. No, they're still in a dungeon after all. This temple where uncountable died... Verdoni's words wouldn't leave Setsuna's head, in all honesty. He didn't react much underground, but his heart was in turmoil. Why would they commit such despicable pain towards others? He hopes to find an answer as they make it through together.
Gilgamesh and Vietnam both require rest, and Setsuna wouldn't mind the additional mana either, especially considering the nature of his magical weapon. So he takes the King and the country's suggestion to rest, eventually moving over to sit at the edge of the pool to dip his hand inside. It's soothing... But almost too soothing that it disturbs him, too. Why would a holy pool be located in a temple of human sacrifices? ]
no subject
WAHAHAHAHAHA!
[...an excellent opportunity to dive right in and make a fool of oneself, as Gilgamesh does right now. He just submerses himself in the pool and rolls around in it, splashing about and covering every inch of his body in the warm water, letting despair flee him as it is replaced by adulation. It sinks past torn fabric and weary flesh down to his very soul, and he breathes a great sigh of relief in between cries for joy.
It is a sign, it must be, he convinces himself, eventually coming to a stop and just floating on the surface, childlike in his sense of wonder. Belatedly, he recalls he did not come here alone and so beckons to both his party members with a broad grin.]
Must you be so shy in my enlightening presence? Come and join me!
[To his credit, it really was that comfortable. Then again, in the middle of a dungeon, it was probably best not to trust even a supposed miracle too much...]
no subject
She watches the difference between the two, and laughs softly to herself. It's also nice to see Gilgamesh significantly more cheerful after what happened to him. Who knows what this area may bring, since Vietnam knows that if this follows the rules of video games, a place that allows you to recharge means there some rough battles may be in store. It could even be here. But it's a blessing in disguise, because if lifted the mood.]
Alright, I am coming! [Such confidence, Gilgamesh! And there's nothing to lose in joining in; she needed the mana anyway. Taking off her boots and socks so that at least her footwear will be dry, Vietnam dips her legs into the water. She was making her way towards him, checking to see if Setsuna will do the same, but then pauses for a moment.
The experience was rather...strange. The water felt the same, but this feeling of power rushing back into her body? Bizarre. Relieving, though. Her hands rub water all over her bare legs.]
Hmm...[It's like she really had to take a moment to think about this.] It's...rather comforting.
no subject
All the while, Setsuna keeps an eye out — to his comrades, to his surroundings. Whenever either Vietnam or Gilgamesh would look over to him, he'll give them a calm look just as he always held. The King's lighter voice, the country's lovely presence, the two of them look like dancing lotuses across that shimmering water. It's mesmerizing, most likely the only beautiful sight he'll ever see in this forsaken temple. But he hopes that will not be the case at the end.
When Setsuna finishes, he stands up and adjusts his uniform. Although not completely tidy, it's a lot better now. He's ready to go anytime. While waiting for his comrades, he leans against his motorbike and holds his own hands. ]
no subject
No, it didn't matter that Setsuna was already on his feet again. He just sort of expects Setsuna to follow suit, and when he doesn't, he resorts to taunting him from afar. Very mature of you, King of Heroes.]
What are you in such a rush for? Honestly, it is as if you do not understand the meaning of fu...
[Gilgamesh flinches, abruptly. Something just bit at him from below. But how could that be? There weren't any fish that he found, and what else might even live in the water? So Gilgamesh continues right on where he left off, oblivious.]
Of fu... @#$%!
[That something just bit him again. Gilgamesh should have made a grab for his sword, but instead he just kicks at the spot where he felt the teeth. Or whatever it was. And that's when he goes absolutely, positively pale, eyes wide with... fear? What could a great King be afraid of? What did he just see?]
Sn... sn... sna... SNAKESNAKESNAKESNAKE!!!
[Ready for your romantic debut, Setsuna? Because Gilgamesh is running straight for your arms, flocked by a massive pack of fire-breathing salamanders.]
no subject
But then Gilgamesh stopped, and he seemed uncomfortable. Vietnam immediately switches gears and starts to look around, alert.]
What's wrong--
[She couldn't even finish, and her concentration was broken when Gilgamesh ran screaming.
Wait what?
Now, Vietnam might be overly cautious, but she doesn't makes it a habit to feel fear. Sometimes that in itself is dangerous, but really, someone has to do it! Hearing "SNAKESNAKESNAKESNAKE!!!" only has her whip around to look at where the invasion of snakes are coming from, because snakes are a common as hell occurrence in her daily life.
Snake wine, anyone?
If Gilgamesh is rushing into Setsuna's arms, Vietnam knows she's given free reign in moving over towards the Fire-Breathing Salamanders.]
They're not snakes! [Because, they have legs. Nevertheless, they're dangerous, and should be taken out before they hurt anyone.
And since she's standing in a pool of mana fuel, she throws herself close enough to launch a bolt of ice right into a salamander's mouth. It was just blind guess: Fire, use water or ice to choke it up.
She's 100% thankful that she studied ahead. But that's just one shot, and she needs to take out some more before they scale the walls!
Also she'll be questioning (inside) Gilgamesh from now on. This sure is some Adventure. At least Setsuna is meeting her expectations?!]
no subject
That's why Setsuna was more or less already prepared. Despite the King's startling exclamation, the Meister doesn't flinch as Vietnam springs into action. Instead of hesitating, he straightens up and extends a hand. Once Gilgamesh is within reach, he swiftly pulls the older man protectively behind him, and switches his motorcycle's position with the King. Instantly, Setsuna straightens the motorcycle to stand as if it were a shield and activates its blade wheels — right on time to start tearing apart the salamanders that dared to leap towards their direction.
Once most of the mob clears up, Setsuna grabs a tighter hold on his bike and his King, jumping back defensively just in time to evade the salamanders's counterattack: lines of fire threateningly burning before their eyes. Unfortunately, as the salamanders are strong against ice, Vietnam's spell did little against the target — but because they're positioned in the mana pool, the surrounding water is vacuumed by the offensive ice spell. Ultimately, the aftermath water pressure is the one that causes the salamander to start shrieking in pain. ]
Water, is it?
no subject
Withering turns to anger once more. Wielding his sword, he starts to slice at the skittering animals in broad strokes. Though they were strong against ice, once whipped into a whirlpool and denied a chance to breathe flame, it's easy enough to target them and take them out in large numbers. A few escape to hide themselves in cracks and nooks and crannies, but most are either ground into a fine paste thanks to Setsuna's bike or sliced to pieces by Gilgamesh's blade.
All in all, it's not too harrowing an experience; the lizardmen were far tougher foes. Gilgamesh counts himself fortunate, for what feels like the millionth time, that he did not come alone, that his party members were so serious—seriously dedicated to dispatching enemies whenever and wherever they might arise.]
That... may have been my fault.
[Gilgamesh admits it somewhat sheepishly. However, he refuses to fall into that same moody mire as before. He perks up:]
But we are all well! Let us hurry onward; we've played for long enough.
[So says the one who was doing most, if not all, of the playing. Party leader, indeed.]
no subject
But no time to mess around. Vietnam curses at the fact that they withstood the ice (but coughed so that was good) and as soon as Setsuna realises that it was all about water, she uses that instead. That skips at least one step.
Thankfully, they were better targets for practicing magic on. Not to mention that because she had her feet in the water the whole time, magically, it did not feel like effort.
Thanks Setsuna and Gilgamesh (and his quick recovery) for making meat out of them! She actually moves over to investigate, because there was something about the richness of the flesh that made her wonder if it is possible to even cook it. (Don't do it.)
As soon as Gilgamesh takes responsibility, Vietnam quickly waves her hand and shakes her head, moving out so she can put her socks and boots back on. See, even after he was playing around, he wasn't even in a mood after having a snake--ah, salamander, chase him. The pool really was a blessing in disguise.]
It could have been mine as well. [After all, she was in the water.] But yes, lets. [But wait! Before that.]
Ah...does anyone have bottles? [She looks at the water.] Do you think we can take a sample?

Once the rest of the salamanders have been cleared, Setsuna lowers his bike again to settle it against the ground. Afterwards, when Vietnam asks for empty bottles, Setsuna looks through his bag to see if he has any. He remembered that he put away an empty milk bottle somewhere... And upon finding the bottle, walks closer to the country to offer it to her. Unfortunately he only has one, so this is the only bottle that he can hand out. He waits for her to accept it before following the King's steps to investigate the nearby area with him.
There, the large door with teeth awaits them. ]

Gilgamesh approaches the door and studies it with a thoughtful expression.]
That will most certainly attempt to chomp at us should we draw near.
[Brilliant deduction, Gilgamesh. Fortunately, the solution's also right on the tip of his tongue. Gilgamesh tiptoes until he's nearly in snapping range, then wedges his sword to prop the door open. It hisses and snarls, but cannot reach him. The space he's managed to make is tight, but if they all suck in, they should manage to fit.]
Fold the bike for now, Setsuna, and climb over me. You as well, Vietnam.
[...should, but butts might wind up in faces with hasty maneuvering. Once again, Gilgamesh takes one for the team.]

Nevertheless, she fills them up with the mana water, and pockets them for now. She'll distribute them after, since they're not even her bottles, but those owned by such generous party members (no matter the questionable origin of said bottles).
When she catches up, she sees why Gilgamesh has said that the door will chomp at them. Look at it, it's quite sharp. But he has a plan. It's actually a pretty good one.]
Oh? Very nice! [Setsuna will need time to fold his bike, and since she's the smallest, she will attempt to go first. The other two could have an easier time, perhaps?
So she does as instructed--] Excuse me for my forwardness! [--and climbs over Gilgamesh. Don't mind any body part going into his face, actually, since with a large weapon such as her oar, she actually had to be very careful in making sure that she doesn't knock Gilgamesh's sword out of the way.
As soon as he lets her up, whether carefully or he actually just threw her into the gaping chasm, on the other side she would quickly work to widen the space with her oar.]
I will hold!

After manually putting away his bike, he attaches it to his weapon belt before climbing on the King as well. He secures himself by embracing around his neck, momentarily distracted by having this person's face a little too close — so he feels his eyes widen for a second, looking away on instinct. At least with Vietnam at the other side, she hopefully didn't notice his embarrassing reaction to all this.
Well, at least the resulting trio mana exchange might lighten up the mood. ]

Much obliged!
[When Setsuna comes over, however, it's a bit of a different story. He has touched this man before and touched him affectionately, though he never expects much in way of reciprocation. Thus, much to his surprise, those faraway eyes flicker from him almost shyly. Gilgamesh was a creature of impulse and often made his most important decisions based on feeling; so in this particular instance, he feels like winking at Setsuna as he passes, just before he averts his gaze.
Vietnam may note that both these reactions were a little strange and indicative of those carried a certain degree of unresolved tension between them. Poor Setsuna.]
Alright, King of Heroes, coming through! Clear the way!
[Gilgamesh reclaims his sword and grabs fast for the oar, successfully vaulting over the space into the next room. Challenge cleared!]
All in one piece, yes? [Just to rub it in:] Setsuna, your status?

In her mind: Gilgamesh is helpful and not an uncouth pervert. Setsuna is a nice man, one she needs to wipe away the idea that he's a pervert.
Either way, she's keeping check on the other side, and wondering why Setsuna was taking his sweet time, and takes a look outside. Pretty sure she saw something happening, and would've reacted more if not for the fact that she's trying to protect some lives here, making sure all of these are stable enough for them to come through.
She helps Setsuna balance himself when he comes out through the space, before it's time for Gilgamesh to come in. As soon as he's safely faulted through, the door slams its mouth shut, and gurgles. It's probably a little disappointed there's no blood. Sorry, doormouth.]
I am fine, King of Heroes. [Pretend that there are no spaces and it is all in caps. She touches her chin as soon as Gilgamesh asks that question to Setsuna.
She wasn't imagining things.]

Even... even if said King winks at him like this. Setsuna almost releases his embrace from that, but he knew better than to impulsively move especially in a crucial moment. Instead, he closes his eyes and hides his face by pressing against the King's shoulder as they altogether move forward. After Gilgamesh announces that they're clear, he immediately moves off and straightens himself after a light sigh. He looks up at his two companions, but is purposely avoiding eye contact from one of them especially after hearing that question.
At this point, they're close enough for Setsuna to learn how to retaliate. That's why instead of ignoring the King (something he would've normally done), he reaches over to gently hit his arm. He walks on ahead this time, intending to hurry on and get this dungeon over with! ]

Gilgamesh laughs and laughs when he's shoved. Under ordinary circumstances, touching the King in such a fashion would be grounds for immediate, and severe, punishment—but with Setsuna he's learned to read into gestures, so he knows it's just a sign he's become flustered. Perhaps not so different from other young men his age, as Gilgamesh once thought; it simply took a bit of coaxing for this rarer side to show itself.
Setsuna could only wish that he might escape him. He's quick to race after him and throw an arm around his shoulders, and nag at him even further... and to glance over his shoulder and whistle for Vietnam to hurry, too, or else she might miss the wild Setsuna in its truest, most sensitive form.
It is an infectious moment of careless happiness, teasing all around as they make their way up the stairs. Perhaps they will need the good cheer for the trials yet ahead.]
