(OPEN) WORK FOR THE WORKING MAN
Who: Minato Arisato & others!
When: Throughout March
Where: Around Blanc
What: Job quest post for the month of March
Rating: None
[ Reference for the Job Post is here. Also, if you're interested and haven't already, you can pick your character's arcana for Social Linking! ]
001-A. Meeting & Greeting
[ Minato wouldn't exactly say that he's good with kids, but he does have some experience with them. Of course, even considering the thought that it's appropriate to encourage a kindergartner to run away is probably not the best example to set, yet here he is anyway. Maiko, a former Social Link of his, isn't all children, and the orphanage has plenty that are excited about heroes coming over. He'd built a snowman for them once, he can do something else.
Besides, he'd gotten cookies out of that deal too. Worth it.
He looks like the life of the party, really. He's got a little girl on his back, and another kid trying to hang from his arm, but the whole five-foot-seven of him doesn't lead for a good height to dangle from. Surprisingly, throughout all of this, he's got a pretty straight face on. But.
This is a little much.
Help? ]
001-B. Now it's Story Time
[ So the kids want to know about the heroes' home worlds, do they? Truthfully, there are a lot of similarities when one looks at the very basics. You know, oxygen, land, water, etc. But those don't make for very good stories. He isn't really going to get any points (or colle, for that matter) by explaining the water cycle, is he? At least it would prove he paid attention to the lessons in second grade.
What can he say about Earth, though? Minato spares a glance at the hero beside him before turning his attention back to the children gathered around them. They're expecting a good story. ]
...Well...
[ A man of many words he is not. It's not that he doesn't have things to say, he just generally keeps to himself unless prompted otherwise. A dozen eager eyes looking at him expectantly certainly fit the bill. ]
[ Yeah, don't be an asshole, dude. They're just kids. ]
It's really not that different...I lived in a big city and had to go to school, too.
[ Except for the whole trying to stop the end of the world thing, but you know, details.
Hey Hero, maybe you have a better story? ]
002-A. Herbs with an H
[ Minato has done a lot of silly things to fulfill some equally silly quests posed to him by some otherworldly being that lived in a room only he had access too. If that doesn't sound odd enough to begin with, it really does get a lot stranger than that. But aside from keeping an eye on a persimmon tree at school--and, literally, it's about watching it--Minato has zero experience with plants, nor a green thumb.
So what constitutes an herb, let alone one in good condition? He agreed to the job because of the money, of course. Shirosabe, his carrier, is starting to garner an appetite about the same as him, which is a lot. And no one should be subjected to Monday meals. Ever. He's resigned to eat out on those days. The struggle is real.
Supposedly they're "all over", but how is he supposed to know what distinguishes an herb as an herb or just...a weed? ]
...Isn't an herb technically any type of plant?
[ Could they just grab a handful of grass? He's got a baggy and everything. ]
002-B. Desperate Thymes call for desperate measures
[ Going it straight-laced can only yield mediocre results. Sometimes there's a reason people go dark side. Sometimes, when push comes to shove, or when there are slim pickings in the public areas, heroes have to turn to a life of crime. Much like penguins.
Minato is one such penguin. Er, hero. And with so many others working on the same job, if he's going to get any money for this, he has to bend the rules a little. But who says he's going down by himself? Oh no, team effort is important. Right? Teammates. Not accomplices. Why would you think that.
Which is why they are found in someone's back yard in one of the nicer parts of time. Pretend it's a little bit like Robin Hood, stealing from the rich's gardens and giving them to...some guy who is going to pay them for it. Okay, it's nothing like Robin Hood, but this person has all their plants labeled and there are definitely some recognizable, herbish plants there. ]
..."Wolf's bane" right next to "oregano". That would be a weird sauce.
[ Is someone protecting against werewolves? ]
003. Wild Card

[ The colle definitely is a nice bonus, but Souji doesn't really mind the kids as well. It's a nice way to earn some money. He has probably three times as much social energy than Minato and he enjoys being surrounded by people, even rowdy kids, so this is a good job. Even if the little girl on his shoulder has now gotten inspired by Minato's kid to also start prettying up Souji's hair. It's not long enough for braids but tiny pigtails everywhere are the next best thing. These two protags are going to be pretty enough to make more social links. ]
A little. [ He doesn't really need to read Minato's facial expressions or posture or anything to tell. He could just look at the fact that there's a tiny child on his back that went from hair pulling to braid making now. ] At least your hair will look stunning by the end of the day.
[ Joking around is the best way to deal with fatigue. ]

Minato doesn't know how people do this. One would think that after having all these Social Links he'd be way more down with being mounted by several small children, but nope. Give him an old couple that only has so much to say and will send him on his way with a snack. They're the best.
At Souji's comment, Minato looks upward slightly, as if he can see this girl's handiwork. ]
Good. I was hoping for a makeover.
[ His gaze shifts momentarily to Souji's hair as well, before whispering (loudly) over his shoulder. ]
Do you think you can make me prettier than him?
[ At actually getting attention, the little girl nods happily. ]
Mhmm!!
[ And gets right to work. Someone is going to win this beauty contest.
So maybe Minato isn't awful with kids. He's just tired. ]

[ Souji got an old lady as a social link but it just got really depressing and deep instead... No melon breads for him. This is sad... But Souji can't help but let out a small laugh at Minato's not-so-quiet whispering. Oh, is that how it's going to be? Playing on Souji's competitiveness? ]
Are you challenging us to a makeover competition?
[ That could get them to sit down for a bit while the kids just play with their hair and faces and whatnot. ]
no subject
That's exactly how it's going to be. If this was a drag competition, you might be in trouble, Souji. Luckily it's just little kids and their creative genius. He gives a shrug, still holding onto the little girl's legs. ]
If you think you can handle it.
no subject
[ Hey, why would Souji be in trouble if it's a drag competition? He totally ROCKED that dress and wig during the "Miss" Yasogami pageant! ]
That's what I should be asking you. [ Look at all this confidence Souji has. ] We'll meet back here in 15 minutes and see who'll win.
no subject
He was definitely something. But Minato's got androgyny going for him. And look at this, his little friend is already making him gorgeous.
Still, Minato accepts these terms and gives a short nod. ]
Alright.
[ He'll just go get ready to be Crowned Miss Blanc or something. ]
no subject
[ Excuse you, it'd be Souji who'd be the Crowned Miss Blanc because the moment he walks over to one side and the girl on his shoulders starts telling her friends about a beauty contest, a bunch of kids just swarm him to help (including the two boys that were either hanging off his arm or clinging to his leg). It's kind of chaotic really because even if some of the kids don't care about a makeover, they get to draw on Souji with markers (because they don't have actual make up). Trust him, he wasn't too on board about the markers but at least they're washable?? ]
[ After 15 minutes has passed, he comes back looking kind of like... a disaster? His hair is nicely done with tiny pigtails but his face... Red marker for blush marks, black marker for mascara, and-- hey, who drew a cat on his cheek? (Okay, maybe he asked for that since he might as well get something cute drawn on him if they already got markers.) At the very least, he doesn't seem entirely too fazed by it and he's kind of proud looking, since if he appeared anything else then that'd probably upset the kids and he doesn't need that. In fact, all the kids who helped him with this makeover come walking alongside with him, curious to see how the competition ends. ]
So, what do you think?
no subject
Souji is a thing of beauty, truly. Could he really have any actual competition?
Minato, somehow, ended up with a smaller group of children who were intent on finger painting, which went about as one might expect. Rather than any true interpretation of makeup, Minato looks a little more like experimental modern art. With a few different little braids in his hair, a couple of pig tails, and about four bows to accent the whole ensemble.
He doesn't look necessarily proud, but he doesn't look upset, either. ]
Mmm...went a little heavy on the eyeliner.

[ Souji can't help but crack a smile at Minato's makeover. He at least holds in a laugh because he's polite that way. Man, and he thought he looked bad (well, he actually can't tell what he looks like because there isn't a mirror but he assumes either super fabulous or hideous). ]
I could say the same for your blush, unless that's real.
[ Haha but okay he then turns his head down to both group of kids. ]
All right, who won, guys?
no subject
It's my natural shade.
[ He's a winter, obviously. He really just hopes that this finger paint is going to come off his face more easily than it has the kid's hands. The things they do for colle--er, the love of children. Minato glances down at the child as Souji asks. And the response is unsurprising. ]
We did!
[ ...Everyone out for their own, huh? ]
no subject
[ Souji chuckles because well, he should have expected that. Well, that's fine. He's not a sore loser. ]
Haha, I guess that settles th--
No, we won!!
[ ..... Uh ]
You guys cheated!!
no subject
Oh...so...this is how it's going to go, is it? Minato can have a bit of a competitive streak of his own, but with something like this? ]
No YOU guys cheated!
...Think we can call it a tie?
[ He glances up at Yu. ]
No way!
We win, we win!
no subject
Cheaters! We clearly won!!
[ Wow, uh, this is... not going to head down a good way. Souji looks back down at Minato and attempts to defuse this. ]
We win!!
It's okay, guys. There can be more than one winne--
No!!
[ Aaaaaaaaand that kid just punched one of Minato's kids. Jesus fuck. ]
no subject
But there's a fight breaking out, so he's otherwise distracted by the childlike carnage. ]
HEY NO HITTING!
[ Mmm... ]
You're just being sore losers!
..Uh--
[ AND now one of Minato's kids lays one down. Welp.
Minato's eyes are uncharacteristically alert as he glances at Souji, which is quite the sight with his face paint. ]
Hey--
