[Before the threat arrives any closer to the town, it's time for some target practice. Through the sweet rhymes of REDSTA she was able to learn how to lock and load the weapon. But aiming? Not so much, she wasn't quite the expert for that.


She's using the fire crystals to practice shooting, but misses her target by a large margin each time.]


Nina, are you having any more luck than I am?


[Aim was Nina's thing, right? Because of course she was about to ask for help. Why weren't these stupid creatures just easier to fight with a sword?]

[ and while nina's talents in marksmanship come from shooting arrows since she could hold a bow, the concept of aim translates smoothly to firearms. maki had shown her how to fire a revolver a while ago, and while a rifle required some adjustment in handling, she's been able to get the hang of it.

she's already done enough hunting on her own to get the reward, so she's agreed to help soleil at the range - if the bullet-holed cans in front of her are any indicator, she's had plenty of luck. she lowers her gun to look over at soleil, sighing. ]

If I had to point out everything wrong with your stance, we'd be here all day. [ she waves her hand. ] How about we start with the basics?

[L-look, her skills aren't quite as easily translated to firearms. Soleil would even go as far to say that she had no idea how to even begin with a stance or anything...so she'll lower the weapon.]

Okay, so...basics. I guess basics begins with stance, doesn't it?

[Please help this child, or she'll never get it.]

You got it. There's hope for you yet.

[ and since their relationship is completely platonic, nina has no qualms in putting her hands on soleil's hips to position her properly. how else is she going to do it? ]

Keep your hips squared like this. You need to make sure you keep your center of balance, or the recoil will tip you over.

[Soleil has no problem letting Nina adjust her either. In fact, she's just taking it all in and trying to take in the feeling of this stance. It makes her feel sort of strong! She moves from that stance and back to it a couple of times.]

And after the stance?

[Does doesn't raise the weapon yet.]

[ DO NOT RAISE THE WEAPON YET. they don't need a firearms accident on their hands, especially when nina knows next to nothing about gun safety to begin with.

she moves her arms for her, tilting them carefully to put them in position. ]

There - that should be the position you're shooting in. You'll feel some strain since you're not used to it, but your muscles will acclimatize with practice.

[It's a wonder they handed guns to just about anyone without a lesson on gun safety. OH WELL, as long as they don't make any stupid mistakes this should be fine.

Soleil moves from the shooting position back to a resting position a few times like she did with the stance. It...seemed kind of easy? But she knows that isn't all she needed to do to be good at shooting. But it was going to be necessary for her to pick this up a bit quicker so that she could finish the job without too much trouble.]

My arms are going to be so sore later.

Good! You know what they say - no pain, no gain.

[ she takes a step back, surveying soleil's position from a few angles. it looks good in theory, but stance is only one part of lining up a good shot. ]

All right, now line up your aim. It sounds obvious, but look where you want to shoot.

[Looks good in theory, but hey. At least Nina is complimenting her, in a way! Soleil takes that same stance but lining up a shot towards the cans that were lined up in front of them.]

And then after this...? You would want me to take a shot, right?

[OR IS THIS JUMPING THE FIGURATIVE GUN....]

Yeah, but don't rush it for now. This is just practice.

[ she moves behind her, examining her aim and stance. it looks good, but... well, we'll see. ]

Breath out and squeeze the trigger, okay? Don't just pull it all willy-nilly.

Okay, okay...

[The aim was good until she shifted as she was firing. The recoil on the gun also kind of startles her this time. She knew it was coming...and yet!

Safe to say that she didn't hit her mark at all.]

I think I need to try that again.

[ ...sorry, soleil. she lets out a snort at that. ]

No kidding. You're way too tense - I could practically see you jump.

[She pouts a little, huffing in Nina's direction.]

Just show me how to do it again!
