Who: Jae-ha and others When: Throughout the end of September and October Where: Various What: A catchall for the month! Rating: PG-13 at most, I think?
[ It’s a good start to their journey, and Bolin is completely undaunted despite the baggage on their backs. (The tents are a little weird though; it’s not… going to take more than a day is it?) It certainly looks a little more difficult than initially anticipated, but he’d had to trek through the Earth Kingdom with Varrick on his back for hours before.
And Jae-ha is nowhere near as annoying as Varrick, so it can’t be that bad. ]
It’s nice to just get some peace and fresh air once in a while, isn’t it? [ Bolin says a short while later, despite not being a person that is inclined to either of those things. He likes both the chaos and the grit of Republic City—it’s familiar and nostalgic to him.
He’s worked up a sweat by now, but ] This is a piece of cake compared to those towers.
Yes, but don't you think the terms of this job were odd? I understand that we're to be rewarded, but why are we getting paid to come on vacation? Not that I'm complaining, but it's... frankly, it's pretty unbelievable!
[ So much so that he still has trouble believing it, like they're going to be tricked somehow at the end of the trip. Because apparently they have to go to these sights to get the money in the first place?
Well, maybe taking the photographs was the actual job part.
He's used to walking long distances, sometimes for days at a time, but not necessarily at an incline like this, so he's also beginning to work up a sweat. ]
I don't think we'll do too badly. I heard there's a pretty good restaurant at the top, too! Most people get there by airship, I think, but we'll have earned our dinner.
[ Though that reminds him, and now there's a slight panic in his voice-- ]
By the way, why do our bags have tents? Is this supposed to take more than a day?!
[ When Bolin's easygoing expression turns strained, it's mostly comedic, and he swerves closer to Jae-ha, grabbing onto the other man's arm tightly with a curt shake of his head. ]
Jae-ha... [ His voice is low, carrying something of utmost importance. ] Jae-ha, you can't say out loud how weird this job is. That's going to break the magic.
[ As in, yeah, this entire thing is way too good to be true, but Bolin would rather ignore the logic of it and pretend like there isn't most certainly some horrible catch waiting on the end of this too-good-to-be-true experience. Like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow that's actually filled with bees. ]
Maybe people like to go camping on the mountain? [ He tries to reason, unwilling to admit that this journey might take more than one day. ] I mean people do... go hiking here right...
[ Then again, the path up ahead is quickly disappearing into just plain forest. ]
[ It's better this way, believing that there's no catch to getting their reward at the end of the trip. ]
Well we did... bring food just in case, right? [ HE SURE HOPES SO. They included food in their packs, right?! ] I can hunt for us if needed, but I really didn't plan for more than a day's hike.
[ Living life on the yolo side maybe wasn't the best idea, he thinks as they come across the beginning of the forest. Song chooses to take this moment to take another picture of them, which, at least on Jae-ha's end, he looks pretty unsure. ]
We should keep a straight path so as to not get lost. It looks like the hiking trail disappears further in. [ Alright, here goes nothing.
As they make their way into the forest, a few monkeys look down on them, one landing on Bolin's shoulder. ]
[ The monkey is incredibly clever however, swinging back to hang off of Bolin's pack so that the earthbender is unable to grab the creature. It shrieks in delight while Bolin bounces around, unsure of whether or not he's being robbed or harassed or both. ]
What? What is it?!
[ Meanwhile, Song takes a picture of Bolin and his new friend. ]
