Who: Midoriya and you!
When: Late September
Where: Library
What: Midoriya seeks the wise advice of the library and perhaps some passerby’s (Part II: Bakugou the Asshole)
Rating: None
Dear… Family of the departed? No, that sounds kind of weird. To the family of Gene… Ugh… [ Midoriya sits at a table in the library, anything but quiet as he mumbles to himself and hunches over a paper. Around him are towers of books on a variety of subjects, though there is a theme of writing to them. Looks like SOMEBODY is having trouble writing letters. ]
This shouldn’t be so difficult, but I feel so insincere… Maybe I should just keep using the same format? No, that’s not right…. But what if [ “QUIET IN THE LIBRARY”. ] S-sorry….
[ not too far away from him, a bunny hops around, eating the pages on some of the books as Midoriya pays no attention to his mischief. ] It’ll be an easy job, they said…. Won’t even break a sweat…
(( For Bakugou; ))
[ At least in his room he’s fairly quiet. Still he’s working on his letters, a little better at writing them now that he’s did a little research and gotten some good advice, but it still plagues him on exactly what he’s supposed to write.
Above him, Midoriya has pinned a single letter above his bed. “I’M YOUR BIGGEST FAN.” He’d gotten it about a week ago now. The writing on it was poor and incorrect, clearly sent from a small child, but it was still a fan letter. Though his mind isn’t settled on it now, the thing did make his heart swell with pride. He was glad to be able to help the people here, even in small ways. ]

He doesn't care much for his new weapon since it's merely cheap replacement for his original powers, but Bakugou wouldn't allow himself to lie around uselessly either. He'd rather angrily hone his new skills than do that anyways. Plopping his bag down on his bed, never mind a greeting, he doesn't even bother looking at Midoriya, just like always. Bakugou's gotten used to ignoring him for the most part, even if they have to share the same room.
However, Midoriya's existence in this place still pisses him off, and the pinned letter above his bed even more so with each passing day. So he finally cuts through that silence, one that's lasted for almost three weeks between them. ]
Bastard Deku, what have you been doing?

Which is exactly how Midoriya responds when Bakugou enters the room on this particular day, poking an eye around the corner of his paper, and then disappearing behind it and his knees once more. It felt weird having him here- it was one thing to have Bakugou as a classmate, seeing him nearly daily as they sat near each other in class; but sharing a room with him...? It's not that Midoriya felt unsafe but.... god, it made him nervous.
So hearing the name, Midoriya looks quickly to Bakugou, honestly surprised that the silence that was between them didn't last forever. ] I-I....
[ he looks back at the letter in his lap.] I was just working on letters for the uhm... fallen ones' families. Y.. you know, that one job posting? [ Why is he asking? Why does he care? ]

[ Bakugou clicks his tongue, gritting his teeth as he moves to sits down at the foot of his bed, facing Midoriya like he can't believe he has to explain this. Elbows rested on his thighs, there's a slight slouch in his posture as he looks up at him with the same unimpressed scowl on his face. Truthfully, Bakugou doesn't want to talk, but there are things he's kept to himself for long enough.
Clutching his own hands he looks down for a moment, a thumb smoothing over the surface of his palm, the wounds finally healed now since he stupidly blew his hand up. ]
Your powers. Are you fine with losing them? [ He knows, he knows, he knows. ]

He feels terrible about it. But he can't tell Bakugou that. It was a secret for a reason. He stares at his paper as he thinks of his answer - waffling through the catacombs of frustration and self-doubt. ] Not really, [ he mutters, turning his pen over and running the nub over the paper idly. ] It's not like I feel different so I keep thinking maybe it's still there just... dormant. [ It felt the same when he got it. ]
[ ... ] You're the same, right? But... you've always had yours- k-known it was there. Does it feel different?

[ He almost looks angry when he responds, fingers digging a little deeper into his hands. Even before the kidnapping, Bakugou has always taken Midoriya's words into consideration. It's not being something he actively thinks about, but he remembers it clearly. After the kidnapping though, while All Might refused to tell him anything, it doesn't take a genius to put two-and-two together when Midoriya basically blabbed to him about his inherited quirk the first week of school.
He has no reason to hide what he's figured out, especially not now... not that he's ever meant to. ]
But you of all people should find a way to go home. [ All Might's retired now, and the memories of his final battle as a Hero sticks with him too. If Midoriya indeed has that kind of connection to All Might, then he shouldn't be here. Bakugou's pissed that he's here for that very reason above all else. ]

Unsure and nervous, he smiles anxiously, a response as if to cover another feeling that even he couldn't identify. ] ...I... really don't think that's true. There's plenty of people here who ought to be home, I mean... c'mon, Kacchan. [ Don't be ridiculous. ]
no subject
He shoots Midoriya a glare, one's that actually filled with fury and less with the exasperation he was showing before, because the one that is being ridiculous is Deku, not him. That kind of half-assed response from him was the last thing he wanted, and it only meant that Midoriya isn't even trying to go home, at least in his eyes. ]
What can do you here? [ He growls angrily, taking out his weapon from his pocket, gripping onto the dispenser as if he wants to crush the whole thing in his hand. And for a moment it begins to sounds like they're going to have that familiar conversation again, one where Bakugou talks because he wants to assert his position as superior, and Deku as someone who can't do anything. ]
This. Or whatever you got, it doesn't fucking mean shit. [ Until it's not. ] Your "borrowed power"... you can't make it your own here.
[ He can't just fucking lose that power. Dormant or not. Bakugou won't have that. He stands, moving to grab something in his bag before he leaves, having said what he needed to say. He doesn't intend to stick around with only Deku in the room. ]

Leaning back, she notices that he's about her age, and having issues with... writing letters? Well, she's been writing them nonstop herself lately, so she can't help but be the perfect student she is, and offer her help, even while making it seem like sound like she doesn't want to. ]
It's just writing a letter, isn't it? Didn't you learn how to do that in school already? If you really can't do I can help you, that way you don't bother everyone else in the library talking to yourself.
[ She's already looking away and twirling her hair, as she speaks to him. ]
no subject
It's not that I don't know how to write a letter, it's just how to write like... this kind of letter. They don't really teach you how to do condolence letters in school....
no subject
He really does need help, that much is clear. ]
You're stuck on the beginning, right? Read me what you have so far, and I'll give you my thoughts. I've seen my Papa give bad news to patients families before, so I'm sure I could help.
[ She's had to do some herself here... not that she wants to think too much on her own failings. But something stops her suddenly, as she starts to sit down, interrupting Midoriya before he could even likely get a word in. ]
N-Not that I want to help or anything, but you're being loud so the quicker you get this done the sooner I can get back to my own studies!

Dear Family of Gene Estabe, My name is Midoriya Izuku and want to say I'm sorry for your loss. Losing someone is really awful and I'm sure it's hard on you. -except that should be hard for you, huh? Ugh... [ he huffs and continues. ] The heroes are doing their best so we don't lose anyone else and hope that will help you feel better. Sorry for your loss, Midoriya Izuku
[ We could title this letter "How many ways you can use loss in a sentence" or "Don't be so fucking awkward, Deku" or even "Minimalism doesn't do sympathy."

So instead she puts on an unconvincing act like this is some kind inconvenience to a popular and busy rich girl like herself... all while giving her complete attention and focus. ]
You should open up on something softer. Who you are doesn't really matter at the moment, right? So you don't have to use your own name right at the start. Just because you're sending condolences doesn't mean you have to lead with that. Maybe write something more poetic to start. My tutor always taught me that to start a proper letter you are supposed to mention the weather and seasons.
[ Maki rattles off one idea after the next, all while grabbing her pen to fix spelling mistakes and drawing arrows and things to move words around. ]

... excuse me.
[ hopefully that quiet mutter will be enough to break midoriya's focus and draw his attention.
serpico's standing behind his seat, gently holding his carrier in one hand. and in the other, a few crinkled pages that look conspicuously gnawed around the edges, missing quite a few good chunks.
the rabbit's still chewing. ]
Sorry to bother you, but is this little one yours?
no subject
[ His gaze shifts over to the books in Serpico's hand, and turns a pasty shade of white. ] ... Don't tell me he did all that.
no subject
Well ... [ yes. but midoriya's looking awfully pale, like he'd panic badly if he hears that answer. serpico ponders his words for just a moment before answering casually. ] Your little friend was the culprit, yes. But the librarian didn't seem to have noticed, and I put the book back for now. I suppose nobody has to know.
[ he uncrinkles the half-eaten pages to glance over them. ]
This only appears to be a foreword, anyhow.

[ Setting his bunny on the table, he pats the creature for a moment before turning his attention back to Serpico. ] Thanks for, uh, covering for me. I'm not sure why he'd do it since I fed him this morning. Maybe he just has a voracious appetite? [ he presses a finger to his lip as he thinks, mumbling to himself ] That's probably why he goes after my cereal all the time.... [ meanwhile, the rabbit has taken to eating the letter he was working on. Don't worry, this one appears to be covered mostly in unwanted scratch outs. ] I can't say I'm used to rabbits eating homework- more likely dogs...!

[ leaning a little on the desk, serpico reaches forward to gently rescue that half-eaten page from midoriya's little fuzzy ball of trouble. ]
And it might spare your, ah, hard work, as well.
[ he raises an eyebrow at the copious number of cross-outs on the page before offering it forth for midoriya to take back. ]

[ Guess who found the bunny munching on the pages of a book he wanted to read. This guy. He's generally disgruntled, but he's cradling the bunny in his arms like a baby rather than holding it by the scruff. It... seems so fragile, so!! ]
Is this yours? I wanted you to know your buddy here has been making this library his banquet.
[ Cue showing a book with the edges rigged, pages obviously torn. It has definitely seen better days. While a man with a bunny shouldn't be intimidating to say the least, Takumi has a rather intense glower. ]

[ Once handed, he looks at the book. Oh god it's in ruins. ] I knew he was a trouble maker but I didn't think... Oh man...! [ His head tilts back as his poster breaks, groaning. ] The librarians are gonna have it in for me.
no subject
At least think of the scholars that suffer from this, too. [ Basically, he wanted to read it. ] I'm sure the librarian has something in store for you.
I heard that prisoners of the library never sleep, something about what they've seen.
no subject
He wasn't studying, but laboring over some kind of writing. Huh. Quietly making her way over, she let her hands slip behind her back, head tilting to the side. Was he..? ]
A letter?
[ Lux, you really need to stop being so nosy. ]
no subject
Oh! It's her. ] Oh! Hey, s-sorry, you startled me. I, uh, [ He pulls his hand away from the letter, letting it rest in his lap as he turns to see her a little better. It must have just been a reflex when he hid the paper, as he seems not to care too much about the piles of scribble marks on his poorly crafted letter. ] I was just trying to start work on this job I got....
no subject
What job? Writing letters? Who to?
