♕ o1. SEEING DOUBLE (HALL OF GLORY).
- [ Walking around the dorms, you might find that your eyes are playing tricks on you. Did you just see something strange out of the corner of your eye? A trick of the light, maybe? A vague shimmering, just out of your peripheral vision. Blink and its gone, however. Or was it even truly there? Spooky. ]
Excuse me.
[ Yikes, where did that voice come from?! Suddenly from behind, Lux stands there, smiling as she almost always does, her head quirked slightly to one side. Curious, the bracelet on her wrist appears to be glowing..? ]
Could I borrow you for a moment?
♕ o2. "FINE" ART (CAISSA).
- [ What... what was she looking at exactly? Wandering around the Lucena Museum, soaking in all of the grandeur that Gammonian art had to offer (a good magician surrounds herself in as many strange and wonderful things as she can, after all), Lux was left more confused than anything.
She just didn't get art. Not at all.
Great sculptures and paintings of heroes past, sure, she can get into that. But here, she was stumped. It was a bit too weird. So, attempting to look like a good connoisseur of art, turning her head this way and that to try to at least somewhat analyze each piece, she found herself looking more and more confused. What was she even looking at here? She wasn't sure... ]
♕ o3. SOMEONE STOP THIS CRAZY THING! (PETROSIAN).
- [ So weeding? Not her thing. A noble city girl born and bred, she hardly knew what a day out on the fields were like, and after taking about an hour to get a small area of land weeded, some poor farm hand took pity upon her.
She could work a tractor, right? Sure she could! Anyone can! Seriously, just... go do something. Here, take the keys to that tractor over there. There was no way she could get into trouble with that, the darned thing hasn't worked in years— ]
WATCH OUT!
[ Judging from the giant cloud of shimmering black smoke careening forward on the horizon, she's "fixed" the tractor! Well, "fix" being a relative term, at least. It's running. Chugging and sputtering, bucking against the spell she placed on it to make it run, the machine managed to wrest dominance from the young mage's hands, and had a score to settle apparently.
Poor thing, she's holding on for her dear life. THIS WAS NOT WHAT SHE HAD IN MIND. ]
♕ o4. A HOME AWAY FROM HOME (CAISSA).
- [ What started off as a routine shopping trip has taken a significant detour. She intended to only go out looking for a calendar—something simple that she could use to keep track of holidays (and perhaps a few birthdays, while she was at it), but managed to get sidetracked along the way. A bit of window shopping never hurt anyone, right?
...And her room was a bit barren, wasn't it?
Moving between shops, the blond would occasionally stop, looking at something, picking it up and turning it over, before inevitably putting it back. Was she looking for something specific? ]
♕ o5. HELL'S KITCHEN (CAISSA).
- [ The farmers in Petrosian had been nice enough to gift any and all heroes that helped them with produce from their crops, and Lux was no exception. But what would she do with all of this? She couldn't eat it all herself, it would go bad before she got to it. And you know, it might be nice to share with others. Yeah!
Cooking didn't seem so hard, she could probably handle it. And after convincing a few of the maids that she wanted to make something in the kitchen, and no it was all right she could manage herself, Lux went to work.
At first, it seemed fine. But after a while, a strange smell began to waft through the cafeteria. Then strange noises—pots clanking, worried mumblings
If you choose to not intervene, she will continue her battle in the kitchen, for better or for ill.
Wandering out into the cafeteria, a large pot and lid in her arms, she looked harried. Like she had just seen a terrible crime take place in front of her. Her face somewhat smudged with... lord, what even was that, gravy? Were those scorch marks on her apron? Looking around, she spies a
Oh, hello. I made a little too much, would you like some?
[ Run. Dear lord, run. ]

no subject
(If she could trade him in for something else, literally anything else, she would.)
Hearing that familiar voice, the blond turned, watching as he plucked "Inspector" (so that's what its name was) out of the air. She at least looks generally amused by the whole thing, so no harm done. ]
Good to see you too. And not at all, Poro's just a bit... prickly some times.
[ There's a huffed wheek from her bag. ]
What are you doing out here? Running errands?
no subject
Or maybe a little sheepish about it. ]
..somewhat. There are a few things I was going to look for. [ For other people, actually. He's just terrible at figuring out what that would be, other than he knows he feels obligated to. But he figures he'll know it when he sees it.
It's a little embarrassing though. So: ]
What about you, Lux?
no subject
[ He always struck her as more of the frugal type, so knowing that he could be a bit frivolous is a pleasant surprise. She quirks her head curiously. ]
Me? Oh. Well, I was looking for a calendar, so I could keep track of dates here. You know, holidays, birthdays...
[ Then why was she stopped anywhere near a shop like this? It seemed to be catered more toward decorations and curios than something practical like a calendar. ]
But I got a little sidetracked.
no subject
(Lux falls under that list too, but he won't tell her that.)
It's more important to make that right, quid pro quo, than hoard all of his colle. Mostly. ...also he's also not getting anything extravagant. Just whatever he finds that says what he wants to say.
He's also managed to hoard a lot of colle without his master's debts haunting him here...He smiles more gently to her curiosity though—and her curious statement. ] Just something for a friend.
Would you like some help looking?
no subject
She smiled softly at his offer. Yes, a bit of company would be nice. ]
Sure, but on one condition. You have to write your birthday on the calendar, when I find one.
no subject
Ah, hm. Well.
He has to rub a little at the back of his neck for a moment at that. ]
Ah, sure, but... [ Ehe. ]
That might be a little difficult..
no subject
[ He doesn't have to really spell anything other than his name, he can handle it. ]
no subject
It's more that— [ heh...
Now he's scratching a little at his cheek with a gloved finger. ]
...I don't really know when that is...
[ ehehehe. heh. ]
no subject
[ Forgive her, Allen, she may be staring a bit in disbelief. ]
How can you not know when your birthday is?
no subject
Let's just skim past a whole lot of stuff right now. ]
I don't really know anything about that time. [ his parents, before he got abandoned/thrown to the circus.
if he actually had any. which he probably didn't, woops.here though!! to placate her
from asking any furtherbecause it's not like he has nothing to celebrate!! ]Generally for that kind of thing I just go by when Mana adopted me.
no subject
But he seemed to have something at least, so that was good. Her own birthday wasn't all that important to her anyway, so ]
Then in that case, that's what I'll use. When is it?
no subject
December. The 25th. [ Which is, you know. Just something he tries not to draw any further attention to than necessary.
But also, since she's bringing it up— ]
When's yours then, Lux?
no subject
December 28th. I didn't realize that you were only a few days older than me!
[ Assuming that he was eighteen, he did t seem like he would be too much older... ]
no subject
Ah?
[ It's... a little strange actually. Such a normal sort of thing for most people and yet something Allen realizes he... kind of never considers asking anyone. Ages and birthdays and the like. It'd even been a little weird to him when Lavi had tried to determine their relative ages when they first met. ]
Really? [ Also genuinely perking a bit!! Because OH MY GOD he might actually legitimately be older than someone he knows for once. ]
no subject
Even here, I'm always the youngest. Youngest in my family, youngest to graduate...
[ It was a quiet, almost teasing lament. She quickly shrugged it off, smiling cheerfully. ]
Oh well, I guess that means I'm just young at heart. But Allen, we should celebrate together! I'm not sure how important birthdays are where you're from, but they're quite important where I am from!
[ ...If you had people to celebrate them with. When was the last time she had a formal party? 10? 11? ]
And that they're just before the Time of Snowdown makes them extra special!

Mn. Let's.
Ah—"Time of Snowden"?
no subject
If they ever did.
(...She was strangely all right with that, at the moment.)
Giggling a bit, Lux waved a hand in the air. ]
Not Snowden, Snowdown! It's a holiday celebrated throughout Valoran, commemorating the end of the year. Some places throw elaborate parties or festivals to celebrate. In some places, like in the Freljord to the north, they even have games to celebrate. We don't get very much snow in Demacia, so instead, the Lightshield family holds a great ball on the final evening, to ring in the new year.
[ A pause. ]
You don't have something like that where you're from?
I actually typo'd because I was wandering around Snowden Drifts at the time in GW LMAO... sob
Somewhat. [ But he dips his head a little with a polite if still warm warm sort of smile. ]
What we celebrate is called Christmas.
lol well I mean it works?
[ She smiles warmly. ]
I know so little about the world you come from. Could you tell me about it? Christmas.
[ And your world. She was extremely curious, but again politeness trumped any eager questions. ]
wrecks heart
That's so warming somehow, and he smiles a little, recovering after being caught offguard a bit by that. ]
Mn..
Christmas is— [ A lot of things that someone who is (was) a member of the Vatican and considered a (Black) priest (in a sense) should give some very specific answers to. Answers on the nature of and origins of the holiday. The good Catholic answer.
But then, Allen's already given his answer about God, and his answer was he didn't care about that sort of thing and never considered himself a priest.
It made him really uncomfortable, honestly.Though for what he considers holy...
...he just smiles gently. ]
..it's a time for families.
Everyone will try to come together, even if they might not have seen each other in a great while, just to see each other again. There will be food, everyone will laugh and tease each other, and they'll celebrate, giving each other gifts and just being happy for each other's company.
There's snow and it's cold, but that'd be okay because we could go warm ourselves inside later. [ Maybe. Sometimes he and Mana would be very cold for a very long time when they were traveling, trying to huddle around a fire... but that was also a good memory. ] We'd make snowmen outside and draw pictures with sticks in the snow—all sorts of things. [ Him and Mana too, what Allen had thought was their own nonsensical language and child's play... ]
It's nice.
wrecks yours right back ♥︎
The fond look in his eyes, the way that he smiles just so—gentle and just a bit nostalgic... It was something so special to him, a small glimpse into that ugly yet beautiful world of his, that Lux couldn't help but find herself wrapped in by his words, caught in their spell.
She could see it, these people brought together through otherwise tragic circumstances, celebrating as a family, as friends, laughing, singing, and simply enjoying the warmth of the love that they shared for one another. Playing out in the snow, huddling together inside for warmth.
Together. ]
I remember a few classmates leaving the dorms during Snowdown to celebrate with their families, while I was at the College of Magic.
[ The way her words hung in the air, it seemed that she was not among them. ]
Mother would usually write a letter wishing me well. Father...
[ There was a heavy pause as she tried to find the words. ]
Father was usually busy that time of year. But she would always wish me a happy holiday, and a happy birthday, for the both of them. They would usually send me a care package—a few books, or new winter boots, something practical that I could get some use out of. My family was never one for frivolous gifts or the like. Not for Garen and I.
[ For all the fanfare and finery that Snowdown in Demacia displayed... She had good memories of her own wintertime festival, of dancing and socializing, but it somehow seemed a bit...
Strangely sterile, after everything she had experienced here. It felt strange, feeling that she wanted something that was not her own, that wasn't quite Demacian.
(But...)
She smiled hesitantly, as if admitting it would be doing some great injustice to her people, to herself. ]
I think I may like your Christmas a bit more.
no subject
It's a funny thing maybe, because for Allen who had no real family, never knew anyone he was biologically related to.. in that moment, he realizes maybe that even so, he might have known what family was like more.
(And the hesitancy and fragile nature Lux seemed to have with her own notion of home makes a little more sense.)
That's... sad. ]
no subject
Mn. Right, then. ]
We can celebrate it together, then.
[1/2]
It was something so simple, so innocent in nature, yet hearing those words, even if just a little bit...
It was subtle, but the blond brightened. ]
I'd like that.
