[OPEN] In Which a Hairy Old Man Wanders Around Aimlessly (I am the best at post titles)

Who: Shunsui Kyouraku and you! And anyone! And everyone!
When: early to mid June-ish
Where: Caissa, Lasker...and anywhere else. Shun likes wandering.
What: Very recently promoted to his Knight rank, Shunsui is by no means familiar with his new weapon (a large silver scythe) or its effects! That'll cause some issues. He also signed on for the Have a Drink job, so obligatory waterfight! And some combat training, if anyone wants to!
Rating: I can't imagine this going past PG-13, but if by some miracle it does, I'll update! (He's keeping his shirt on in the waterfight to protect the childrens' innocence, even).

[This is prose because I have terrible eyes and I'm lazy/it's the easiest way for me to write things with my screenreader, but I'm happy to match whatever you're most comfortable with!]

A. Have a Drink, on me!

Shunsui was absolutely soaked.

Not that he minded! Far from, in fact. Seeing the children so happy made him feel a lot lighter than he had in recent memory, and it was a feeling he'd very much missed. That didn't mean he wouldn't appreciate a little assistance, though!

"I'm sorry to bother, but would you mind possibly handing me a towel?"

Or grabbing a bucket of water and helping him, either way!

B. Mopey Knight is Mopey

He'd only scanned the letter announcing his new rank. More because Pretty, his beautiful pink and black butterfly, kept landing on his nose and then fluttering to the door and then back to his nose about once every five seconds. He'd managed to scan the information, and knew what his new weapon looked like (a scythe? The gods here were certainly jokesters!) but not what it could do. Still, Pretty seemed very eager to leave, and who was he to deny her?

Upon retrieving his new weapon, he'd emerged from the armory with it in his left hand, hefting the new weight. It could proooobably fit into his belt, but with that blade, he'd feel better carrying it on his back.

After fashioning a makeshift sling for it from two of the attached ribbons, he swung it in a small arc to get it where it needed to be. Of course, this was the action needed to activate its power: a widening arc of despair for the enemies surrounding him - of which, thankfully, there were none, the armory and its grounds were quite deserted this morning! - and a severe dip in mood for himself.

Pretty's presence on his shoulders, moving her wings to brush the tears from his cheeks, did little to comfort him as he walked, each step feeling heavier than the last. All he wanted was to find some ice cream and to go home to bed for a year or two, really.

...Won't you help him? He's far from his usual fairly jovial self.

C. Training time!

He'd taken to going to the training grounds when he had free time, more because he missed the old pastime of teaching his subordinates than anything else. Oh, he could still sleep for days on end and prowl the streets looking for the best sake and rooftops on which to enjoy it, but something in him called to the idea of training!

And what better way than to take his katana and offer himself up to any students that wanted a lesson?

While his mana resources weren't great (and that was still something he was adjusting to!) he was more than capable of both weapons training and hand to hand sparring. The latter, in fact, was one of his specialties, although he hadn't used it much back home in recent centuries.

If anyone would like a lesson, feel free to approach! He's the tall, burly guy with the long ponytail who's usually leaning against some wall or other.

D. Wildcard!

None of these interest you? I'm not the most creative but I'm open to playing anything out, so feel free to come at me with any ideas you have!

[ Yeah, actually, he can understand that plenty well. It's become easier to revert to old behaviors the more that he learns to manage his mana... and in the case of basic training, getting really exhausted would take a feat. But perhaps that's why he's a little surprised to see someone unrecognizable holding up so easy.

Unfortunately, curiosity alone doesn't sway him in some respects. He turns.

Don't get so friendly.

[ Offering a chat over lunch and challenging him to a fight nearly in the same breath... hah. Hey, just because he'd been observing the guy practicing, that doesn't mean he wants to get to fraternizing so quick. It's the less personal half of that he'd had his eye on, just for a decent bit of practice with a real, moving, thinking target—which is why he sheathes his blades and pushes his sleeves up to the elbows to offer his fists. ]

This is what you really want, isn't it? If you wanna spar, let's spar.

[ Or maybe it's just what Levi wants, but he had been awfully quick to cut to the chase. ]

[ Yeah, that's probably the smarter route for a guy inclined to call it "creepy." One could hear it in the intonation of his voice. But hey, given that he doesn't push the friendly angle, it leaves this.

Going at it with fists... yeah, call him a little old-fashioned but it seems like the best way to get (keep) his blood pumping. Then again, it also comes with the easier, cleaner assurance that no one is going to end up bloody. At least, from what he's seen, he expects that Shunsui should at least keep up enough not to have his teeth punched out. That hardiness is one of the few plus sides to having all these "Heroes" around. Stupid expectations aside, a good chunk of them tend to have skill.

And when it's physical skill, testing that's good practice for the both of them. Levi doesn't overthink it; once Shunsui's set his weapons aside, he goes for broke and throws a jab for the abdomen. But it's not like he's just throwing caution to the wind—his mind's active, ready to retaliate at a moment's notice.

[ As for an easy win, he was hoping not. Heroes of a more physical class had proven themselves fortuitous yet though—and he may be sharp on the intake of movements, but he won't judge so soon. After all, the best fights move smoothly. There's no awkwardness in hesitating on a miss, no surprise for having to jump to avoid Shunsui's leg when it comes swinging toward him in a kick.

He keeps the momentum up, throwing his weight backwards with his leap. Only enough distance to spring forward again with a little bit of help from the agile bonus of his magic, his leg cutting a hook for the jaw.

Don't make excuses. [ Levi is terse, but this has a particular impact considering the little time he has before he either connects, or Shunsui somehow offsets his weight. ]

[ The fact that he moves saves Levi from falling into him when he does connect with air, but although he's able to right himself quickly as a result, it gives Shunsui a moment longer to prepare without his own full concentration than he'd like. Magic, however, is a great enhancement to his reflexes. Even a moment missed in action can sometimes be made up for by the right use of mana.

In this case, the right use is diverting his body backwards, faster than he could move to avoid Shunsui's arm were he relying only on attentiveness. It allows him to dodge, but rather than spend the next few seconds being satisfied with himself, he tries to use the situation to his advantage in much the same way—he lashes out again, going back in for another uppercut.
