Who: bishamonten and anyone who may also be training or would like to watch a former goddess Struggle
When: 06/11

What: bishamon is trying to learn how to fight again in her new, fragile human body... and figure out wth is up with her weapon in the process. #thestruggleisreal #whatismana #dontskiplegday
Rating: potential for some violence, but otherwise should be alright!
(1) THE BORING KIND OF CARDIO »
[ anyone around the courtyard on this early morning may find themselves having to share the space with an overzealous hero in training... or someone with some serious anger management problems. (or both.)
situated to one side of the courtyard, on lush green grass and right beneath the shade of a large tree is bishamon, currently making full use of the wooden training dummy the keepers of the hall of glory had been kind enough to supply her. from the amount of sweat she's managed to work up (not to mention a good number of bruises already beginning to form along her hands, arms, and legs, and the blood caking along her knuckles) it's clear she's been at this for quite a while... and rather vigorously, too.
the style itself is not easily identifiable, less technique and more raw energy and skill. she strikes fast and hard and with no fear, as if completely unaware of her own limits (or, perhaps, unused to having them), but every now and then she will land a blow that has her flinching back in shock and pain. every time it happens she grits her teeth and seems to make a mental note, before striking the exact same spot with the exact same blow, again and again and again, until finally she does not flinch back in pain anymore.
it's a shame about that uniform, really. she had originally found the skirt impractical, but found it useful now in granting her more movement in the legs. the top, sadly, she had to be more creative with — needing the freedom of her arms, but not wanting to appear too indecent (some people come out there to eat, after all) she had to contend with simply unbutton the first couple of buttons and tying the sleeves around her chest like a wrap. unfortunately, not even these measures could withstand the brunt of all of her movements. of course, by the time she realizes the strain she's putting on the clothing, it's a little too late...
which is why, if you hadn't already approached her before this, she will stop you as you pass by, getting your attention with the wave of one (somewhat bloody) hand. ]
Excuse me — would you happen to know if there's a tailor around here?
(2) BANG BANG ALL OVER YOU »
[ is it just bishamon, or do those stuffed bears do unnervingly smug?
it's gotta be the eyebrows, or maybe it's the stitching along the muzzle. whatever the reason, bishamon decides she doesn't like them, and so doesn't feel even the slightest bit of guilt when she raises her weapon in the air, takes aim, and pulls—
and pulls.
and pulls and pulls and pulls and pulls and pullsandpullsandpULLSand ]
This is stupid!
[ WHY WOULD ANYONE ARM SOMEONE WITH A GUN THAT HAS NO BULLETS???
with a frustrated growl, bishamon chucks the offending weapon towards the bear to the farthest right, its blade embedding right in between its beady little eyes. ]
(3) HAKUNA MANA-TA »
[ or maybe you'll find her sitting by the canal that runs through the center of the courtyard, perched precariously close to the edge along one of the stone ledges that line it. she seems to be two seconds away from falling into the canal herself, what with how much she is leaning over it, but her full attention is drawn to the water itself, rather than her proximity to it.
anyone looking over will notice how intensely she is staring at the water's surface, her brows drawn together and lips pursed in an expression of utmost concentration. slowly, she raises a hand and after a moment of steeling herself, she gives her index finger a quick flick.
there is some slight lag time, but before long, even just the casual observer will notice a large droplet of water pop itself out from the water's surface and crash right into — well. probably your cheek. bishamon sits up suddenly, eyes wide with a look of utter shock and pride. sorry, innocent bystander, she'll feel bad about that in two seconds, just let her finish her mental victory dance.
SHE DID IT, SHE MAGICKED.

Jae-ha's smile wilts, and he lowers himself into a bow before her, much more formal than their initial greeting. ]
Ryokuryuu, the Green Dragon, at your service.

[ Still beautiful, still cruel? ]

but hang on hang on hang on okay — her mind is still working to process all this. if his words are indeed the truth, and he is one of the four brother dragons of this hiryuu, then it would stand to reason that he is, technically, of divinity as well...
a fellow god...
again, she finds herself struggling to swallow something back. ]
...Bishamonten, Vaisravana, Bishamon. [ she has a great many names, usually depending where you're from. but that doesn't really matter here, does it... ] God of War and Warriors, one of Japan's Seven Gods of Fortune.
[ her lips crack into a smile. ]
At your service.

God... of war?
[ He grows quiet. If there was ever a God of War, she wouldn't be what he'd envision. Not because she was a woman, but because she was kind, and war is anything but.
She's also smiling, and he makes a point to remember what this seemingly rare sight is like. ]

In my world, Gods are born from wishes. Many times for protection, sometimes for favors, or luck... other times for retribution. When a God is born, it is their duty to fulfill that wish, and to keep fulfilling any wishes to come to them, in order to remain in the minds and hearts of the people who gave them life. Just like with the humans your Hiryuu had loved so much, we too are their servants.
[ she spares a glance over the weapon in her hand, idly turning it over. war is not kind, no. but that is why she is. because who better to bear the weight of war, than someone who can still feel compassion despite it? ]
When humans pray to me, it's not with a thirst for blood, but a desire to keep living.

But he doesn't judge such an existence; not anymore. Kija has taught him that there is beauty in accepting the role laid out for you, in doing your best to honor the powers that gave you existence. He sighs. ]
That is indeed a selfless existence, Bishamonten, Vaisravana, Bishamon. I have no doubt that you must work tirelessly to help others, the same way you fought tirelessly for civilians of a land you're not even familiar with.
[ It may have just been a dream, but Jae-ha has familiarized himself with the familiar faces in the Hall of Glory, and she is not one of them. Which means her arrival was fairly recent, yet she's taken to her new role with determination to protect. ]
I'm not a stranger to war and its cruelties, but I also know that sometimes, it's necessary to bring about peace.
[ He frowns. It's not a question he wants to think about, but he has no doubts that it's something she's thought about. ]
What will happen, in your absence?

but where her brow had once furrowed in contemplation, now it only crinkles in obvious pain. she is quick to glance away, a meager attempt to hide evidence of her own trouble thoughts. he can likely tell right away just how right he'd been — it is definitely something she's thought a lot about. ]
...I don't know. There are other Gods, of course. Many more who do just as I do. However...
[ that isn't really what worries her the most. she bites down on her lip for a moment, feeling that familiar helplessness spike in her gut. ]
There are souls in my command. Human souls who have found purpose again in the afterlife. I'm not sure what has happened to them, now that I am no longer there to care for them.
no subject
I wish I could offer some reassurance, but we truly have no idea how to make contact with our home worlds.
[ He also doesn't want to give her empty words, but he will give her a hopeful observation. ]
But if they are anything like you, they will persevere, and they will not lose that purpose.
no subject
They are strong people. I have no doubt about that.
[ but it is not only their spirit that she worries for, but their very way of being. without her, they will become masterless, and susceptible to strayhood. she cannot bear to think any of her shinki in such a position. ]
no subject
[ Her smile is small, but it's there, though he wonders if it's more for his benefit than how she really feels. Jae-ha's voice grows small. ]
The afterlife, huh.
[ And then quiet. ]
It's kind of a comforting thought, at least. That it exists.
no subject
she gets distracted by the sound of his voice, though. the quiet timbre that seems more like a private thought than a piece of conversation. she almost doesn't respond, as if worried she'd trampled in on something intimate. ]
...Have you given it much thought before?
no subject
As much as any mortal human does, I think. It's hard not to wonder if there's something out there for us after all is said and done.
no subject
it's why, even when she looks at him now, and sees that smile for what it is — not merely a mask, but maybe even a shield — it's why there is still a sliver of doubt in her whether she is truly reading him right or not.
here, though... she is human now. perhaps there is a chance yet for her to understand.
and so she gives him a brief nod, a meaningful look. a silent acknowledgement that she knows what he does, and for now she will allow it. perhaps for both their sakes.
she waits a moment, then gestures towards the flute in his hand, instead. ]
Did you play in your world?
no subject
It gives him the inkling that she knows there's more to it than he's letting on, and while being regarded as so easily transparent is a little disarming, he appreciates the sentiment. ]
I did. Would you like to hear a song?
[ He knows she's training, but maybe she could use a little breather. ]
