Who: Makoto and Luna (
medicament)
When: Around 06/06? Before Lasker stuff.
Where: Kabe Market
What: They be workin'.
Rating: None!
[ It'sSongkran Dance of the Drops!
There's a festive, jovial mood in the air as people go about their respective businesses armed with water guns tucked under their arms - an odd image, to be sure - and for the more prudent ones, a coat enchanted to keep the water out as well. After all, everything's fair game during the festival...unless you're in the market.]
Maybe that's why Makoto had taken the job. It isn't very challenging (in fact, she's spent most of the morning carrying supplies), but it leaves her free to observe and, more importantly, keep away from roving water guns. A win-win scenario. Besides, the merchant she's helping isn't that much of a slavedriver -- she gets small breaks when business isn't as brisk, and that's when she goes a-poking around the rest of the market.
Ah, that's right, Luna's working around here too, isn't she? ]

Most of the supplies are already where they should be, so Luna has been asked to take over one of the food stands. When Makoto approaches her, she's standing behind the counter. There's no one else here at the moment, but who knows when the people may come running here to eat something.]
Actually...
[She holds up a red kitchen apron and just like the ones she's wearing at the moment.]
It'll be lunchtime soon, so it'll probably get quite busy, so if you could stay here with me, I'd appreciate it.

...not that that makes her hesitate; Makoto simply accepts the apron and pulls it on without much protest. She...probably looks a bit more ridiculous, but hey, it's a change from lifting boxes of supplies. ]
I don't mind. What'll I help with?
no subject
I have to make lots of those, so if you could help me with that...
[They have all the ingredients they'll need on the other table; Luna has already started making one herself, but she's only halfway done.]
Those are really cute, what the heck. I can't believe you found rabbit bento.
(Which also serves to underscore that Makoto's hands haven't seen much detail work for a long time, so perhaps she's not quite cut out for this sort of work...? Look, she just looks a little bemused at all the little bits of ham and flower carrots and all.
Okay, maybe very bemused, if we're being specific here fine.) ]
Er...I can make the riceballs.
[ That's help? ]
there are so many them, you wouldn't believe...and all are so cute
Really? That would make things much easier for me...
[Preparing the carrot flowers isn't too difficult with a cutter and arranging the green vegetables that are supposed to look like grass is quite easy (thankfully).]
Is this your first attempt at preparing food as well?
I believe you...how did you manage to choose.
No! Well...not exactly. [ This is really sort of embarrassing! But she did grow up in a normal family (Olympics dreams aside) and that's probably why she at least knows how to make riceballs. ] It's been a while since I've done it.
[ She'll just busy herself with washing her hands. ]
...I don't usually have time to cook for myself lately.
i'm not even sure tbh!
[Smiling sheepishly, Luna continues to work on the decorations. The cutters are a godsend, really...if she had to do it with the knife, it wouldn't ever look as good.]
Not to mention that our lives are quite busy, with all those job requests and other orders...but cooking is an important part of hu— [A short break as she catches herself on almost saying something unnecessary.] Life. Do you enjoy it, though?
[Smooth (or not really) change of a subject should do, right?]
no subject
I can't say I do. It's not something I do often enough to enjoy.
[ She sounds fairly helpless at that, to be fair. She likes good nutrition, she likes healthy food! But cooking said food...
...maybe it's better to busy herself just making the riceballs. ]

[Luna feels like it's on her to continue the conversation, so all she could do is simply do her best!]
I didn't have to cook at all, to be quite honest...that's why I was a bit lost. But it looks sort of fun...I think. M-Maybe we could try doing it again sometime...? Maybe not here, but...
no subject
...you struck me as the type to know what they're doing in a kitchen.
[ Okay, so that came out a lot harsher than she'd intended.
But Makoto does pause to glance at Luna and at the fancy knifework she has to do. And here she is, making riceballs. In terms of effort, she'd really gotten beat. She sighs here, a wry smile lightening her expression. ]
I suppose I was wrong in that regard.
no subject
D-Did I really? The truth is that our meals were prepared beforehand, so we didn't have to worry about cooking.
[Looking to the side, she's visibly tensed up a bit.]
I-I'm just trying to do my best...the stand owner told me that people really like these, so I'd hate to let them down.
[Speaking of whom...the first customers seem to be approaching the stand.]

The thing is, Makoto had promised to help her out. She might not be much good in the kitchen but neither did she really want to see Luna get in trouble after all she promised - even Makoto has some semblance of responsibility. ]
We'll just have to make sure that our best is good enough then.
[ She'll also wordlessly indicate the customers with a slight turn of her head. Luna will probably need to take care of the sales thing since it's her job, but Makoto's fine with continuing to help out.
"Oh, these look sooo cute!"
Time for customer service! But they also have enough riceballs at the moment, so she'll take up the knife and start with the ham-ear bits. Fiddly, but she still manages. Still, as she passes by Luna, she murmurs: ]
We'll definitely get this sorted out. Don't you worry too much about it.
