What: Caren found out she can make mapo tofu and is sharing with everyone. Heaven help us all.

THe Halls of Glory smell a little different today. Instead of the usual fare that the others might know from the weekly menu, there's a different scent. Something that may remind heroes of Airy, Ma Jiang dishes, or maybe, more simply, of home.

This was the result of Caren's cooking and some hunting on her part. And the results may be quite appealing. There are pots of rice, still steaming, and various bowls filled with the result known as mapo tofu. Some of them are spicer then others, and she hasn't seen fit to label which are very spicy, and which are quite mild. The only thing she has labelled, with a rim of green around the bowls, are the vegan variations, for those who can't, or do not, eat meat or meat by products.

Consider it a game of spice roulette. Because there are other bowls as well, with crushed cucumber-hot pepper salad, spicy tofu, and something that has spewed spinach and garlicy noodles within. But hey! You may be able to cool off with one of the pots of tea around the place-or with one of the rare tubs of ice cream of various flavors, kept chilled with an icy spell.

The cutlery and bowls are disposable, and there are trashbags to clean up after yourself. She's not going to do it for you!

But hey. Who can say no to free food?

[If he had not been cutting with a sharp knife, he would have rolled his eyes. Clearly, he was not interested. He was here to prepare food, not prattle. Food related topics were understandable given the circumstances, but he had little patience for much else.

The sliced oranges and limes went on another sheet pan and he placed both peels and slices in the oven.]

Very well. For the most part, I'm experimenting with mapo tofu. But I've a few smaller dishes that I will be trying my hand in as well.

[It was easier to let her take what she wanted. Among the half of a peeled lime left, he also offered cabbages and cucumbers. While he waited for her to take the produce, if any, he quickly cleaned the area with a towel.]

[Lime was nice enough, but it didn't suit anything that she was planning to make. The cucumbers did though, and she took them with a nod.]

Nothing. It's extra.

[The only options were to use it now or preserve it to prevent waste. He extracted the juice from the lime to freeze it and he spread most of the produce on drying racks. The cabbage, however, he preserved by pickling. In the end, nothing went to waste, not even the peelings, which he gathered for compost.]

[She raises her eyebrows, even as she goes to her area of counter space to chop up the cucumbers. She knows exactly what to do with these. She'll keep the peel on, though the ends will go to the compost.]

[He gathered the drying racks and the peelings. The question was purposely vague. If she needed further help with cooking, he assumed she would have said so. Because she did not, he moved out of the kitchen. The citrus would be a while until they were fully dry, so he planned to do other tasks in the meanwhile. He muttered over his shoulder as he left.]
