[Open] I see what's mine and take it
Who: Caren and you!
When: After the Adra housewarming, throughout June
Where: Lasker, Halls of Glory, Caissa
What: Caren ranked up
Rating: None yet, but will be updated if it does!
A: Have a drink
If you don't mind I-
[She didn't get to finish her sentence. She had just wanted to get over to the merchants so she could tend the fires. Instead, her politeness was answered with water to the face. Now, she would have been fine if it was fresh water. She might have even been fine if it was just her first shot. But this was around her fifth, or twentieth, maybe even the hundredth time. And this water smelled funny.
...heck it might not have been that, but they were in her way and thought they could get away with it. She offered a grim little smile, baring her teeth.]
Oh. You wanted me to tag you back? All you had to do was ask.
[This citizen likely thought it was good fun to drench the tiny hero. Really, it was a good thing that she was a rook, otherwise she might have had bruises on her face from all the shots she had taken.
But with a flicked hand upwards, she summoned water from one of the geysers. It came around, hovering like a ball; then another flick of her wrist, and it started spinning, right over her hand. Her smile turned into a snarl.]
I suggest you run while you can.
B: Five mornings at Dunya's
[The costume was awful. There was really no two ways about it, it was awful. It was made for someone taller than Caren, that was for certain, and she had to go around like some sort of idiot, attracting attention. Well sure she could attract attention, but it wasn't...quite like this. Not in a suit that smelt funny, flopped around like the suit was possessed, and...really, she didn't have any ideas.
....was that a screaming fox? That might have been someone in a costume who was running around screaming. Sounded like they couldn't take it anymore. She understood the feeling.]
God help me with this. I don't know what to do.
[Because well, being violent, while fun, wasn't actually very productive. And it didn't earn her money, which could be important in the future. Particularly if she wanted to make sure that she had it when she needed it.]
C: Training with wires
[A rank up, and she had new weapons. It was...a funny set actually, and one that tickled her sense of humour a bit. Wires, razor sharp, that could extend far further then her shawl. She could conduct spells through these gloves, through the wires, she thought-it was perfect. But...like all things, there were problems getting from one point to another.
She brought her hand up. A single wire, thick as a man's index finger, rose from one of the steel rings at the end of her knuckles. She aimed it towards the practice dummy, her face grim with determination. Sweat trickled down one temple as it moved closer, closer....and flopped to the ground, so close but so far.
There was a wordless little growl, and she was able to retract it, rapid and frustrated, nearly hitting herself, or someone standing too close in the process.
Doesn't matter. She's going to try again.]
D: General training/studying
[It wasn't just the wires that Caren was studying. There were the general lessons that she was using with her shawl, trying to get a better feel for it; the spells, which she tried to manage and do very carefully. Sometimes she could be seen, with various weapons-mostly whips and shields-trying to go through drills. There was general practice with gymnastics, jogging, and other things too.
She also sought others out to practice, with one form of weapon or another. Maybe with a jerk of the chin, a narrowing of the eyes and a quiet, but confident, challenge.
Still others, she could be found in the library, taking in all sorts of books. Books on sound waves, on magic, on tactics and war. Though...she was more then likely to nod off in the library then anywhere else, mostly by accident.
Though heaven help you if you tried to take the book away. She was a surprisingly light sleeper when it came to taking things in her possession.]
E: Exploring Lasker
[It was surprisingly beautiful here. Then again...Caren always did like the fog. There was the whistle of the ocean. She didn't have to wear her hat here, and hide from the sun. That made things easier, after she did the jobs.
There was a lot to see. There were beautiful items of clothing to look at and try on; cafes where she could watch people, and drink a cup of coffee. (She didn't know what to think of the themed ones though. Most of those got a weird look before she moved on.) The food was interesting, and she resolved to pack some with her for the ride back to Caissa. She was heavily amused though at the churches. The haven for the god of friendship...
what a crock. At least the other parts of the city were far more honest, even if a little obsessed with a weird card game.]

But hey, Asuna knew how to friend, Caren...really didn't. She wasn't so sure how it was supposed to work. Really, she's certain that there will come a day, soon, in her future, that she will betray Asuna and she will enjoy it. It's...strange, growing attachments to actual people. She's not sure if it's even that. She's getting used to them.
And they accept her the way she acts for the nonce. It might not be so long. Maybe if she copied herself with intent and will, an illusion that spoke in disagreeable phrases, no one would notice.
Strange, lonely thoughts that she savours.]
Oh? Only a moment? You missed quite a showing. I think you would have liked seeing Gilbert at least. He's got a lovely body, and he is so eager to please.
[He's going to be so mad at her. But oh it's going to be funny. But all right, topic switch.]
If heroes are so novel a concept, then why are there weapons? It makes little sense. The starter rank wouldn't do anyone any good.
As for mine...
[She holds up a hand, gloved, metal rings around her fingers.]
The Devil's trill.
[Palm facing downwards, she activates it, and wires, fine as hairs, emerge from the rings, moving over her fingers. She keeps them short, because it's easier to control them that way.]
It seems to be wire manipulation.
no subject
But Caren is better at getting the other to fluster. Asuna reddens even more out of anger, gripping her cup a bit more tightly. ]
I-I would not. [ Said FIRMLY but still quietly. Who is Gilbert? She doesn't care about lovely bodies or how eager they are to please!! CAREN ARE YOU BEING LEWD. She's staring at the table stubbornly, only peeking upwards when the topic does change. ]
Maybe the Heroes are novel, but there might have been a different special task force that Blanc used before. The elves suddenly disappeared and there's almost nothing about them. In fiction, elves were always known for being skilled at magic. That's what these weapons are.
[ It seems far-fetched and she's grasping at straws so she sighs without the answers she wants. There are so many important points about this world that are hidden in obscurity. ]
W-wire manipulation... [ When Asuna thinks of weapons, it isn't things like wires or yo-yos or tattoos. But there are people that are given those things. In fact, she was given a harmless bracelet as her second. She lifts her hand and looks at it. ]
It's ironic though, isn't it?
no subject
Also Caren has a lot of practice making people fluster. She still enjoys the results, every single time. Even if it's from being lewd.]
No? Perhaps another time then.
[He does make a good cup of coffee. Poor Gilbert, tossed under the bus. Bet Asuna assumes he's some sort of lewd pervert. But anyway, onto the more important things. She purses her lips, thoughtful.]
Fiction is not always the truth Asuna. But you may have a point in that there might have been a task force before. Or another means that Blanc kept itself free of invasive forces, if not all of their leaders were skilled in the arts of diplomacy.
It's a mystery. I'm not about to settle on an easy answer, even if it's tempting.
[Especially with Adra. She doesn't think all elves are like that-they're just another race of people. But she's not about to spill his secrets either.
Instead, she's glikg to play with her wires a little, making them fan out against her palm, before trying to coil them together. It's a good exercise of concentration for her, and it become useful later.]
It is a little? My other weapon-I never told you its name either.
[She touches it, where it lays against her waist, wrapped around and looking like nothing more then red cloth.]
The Sinner's shawl.
no subject
Asuna won't say "Not another time!" but she's thinking it, jsyk. Besides, she prefers tea!!
Fiction is fiction, so she knows it's not the truth. But she knows Adra and if he's as skilled in magic as he is in cooking then...
Well, anyway. Once she hears the name of the SECOND weapon Caren holds her expression flattens. ]
... You are a priestess, aren't you? [ WHAT IS WITH THESE WEAPONS ]
no subject
But anyway...Asuna is getting a flat look back, as she tucks her weapons away, and her hands onto her lap.]
I am a priestess.
[Now she's just insulted. She might speak the truth in a certain way, but a fact is a fact. She's a gd priestess Asuna.
BELIEVE IT.]
no subject
Realizing she didn't think that through completely, she waves her hand to try and clear the air, laughing nervously. ]
N-no, I didn't mean it like that. I know you are, but it just seems strange that a priestess would get weapons like that, doesn't it? I was under the impression that the weapons we received were reflections on our character. Like...
[ She touches the hilt of her sword before laying it on the table between them, looking at it fondly. ]
This is Dorothea.
[ WHY DOES IT HAVE A PERSON NAME?? Why does Asuna refer to it like it's a person... she's crazy. ]
no subject
Caren raises her eyebrows at her, and glances down at the sword between them, before looking up at Asuna. Dorothea...?]
Did you name it, or did it come with the name?
[Does it summon the soul of people named Dorothea? Do they punch people in the face? That'd be a great weapon, tbh.]
no subject
I-it came with the name.
[ Does she really think Asuna is a girl who names swords? Maybe if it didn't already have one...
It can move without her holding it so he could actually punch people in the face if Asuna willed it? It can also run someone through. ]
And this is Novae.
[ Her bracelet is displayed on the table. ]
no subject
Dorthoea Novae...
[She considers, raising her eyebrows.]
And your rank?
[She hadn't seen anyone with more than two. And only the ranked have duel weapons.]
1/2
A Knight.
[ She looks so proud of herself and tugs on her pin a little. ]
no subject
You have two weapons as well, right? What's your rank?
no subject
I do, and I am a rook.
I suppose it is more fitting than some of the other ranks?
no subject
Really?
[ She lifts her tea to drink but she's definitely still listening especially with an unsaid "pls explain" in her tone ]
no subject
[She takes a moment to take a sip of tea.]
But this way, I can stand in front, and ensure no sacrifices need to occur.
no subject
Her fingers drum on her cup. These are the kind of people Saber told her to look for, right? ]
Um, Caren... do you know about the Knights of the Round Table?
no subject
There are also historically round table tournaments that were held by various nobles throughout Europe, thanks to the Arthurian cycle.
Why?
no subject
Asuna turns her cup in her hands, stares at the liquid inside. ]
Would you ever join a court like that?
no subject
She slowly takes a sip of tea.]
I may, though I wonder what seat would be mine.
[Is it Lancelot's? Please tell her it's Lancelots. Or whoever was a HUGE dick.]
no subject
Yata is Asuna's Queen then I guess...... ]
Because of ranking?
no subject
[Yeah, Yata is Asuna's Queen. Yup.]
no subject
Such as?
no subject
So it would make it interesting if those names were assigned to the seats, and what they signify. Especially due to the person if they assign that name.
But I doubt that would happen. The actual person of that legend might arrive, and that would be...awkward.
no subject
Strangely silent, Asuna lifts her tea and takes a drink. But she doesn't lower it again, eyes drifting off to the side. ]
Hypothetically, what if that person of legend would give their blessing?
no subject
[Just. Sayin.]
no subject
Because how does she measure up to King Arthur? How?? Even with her blessing. Asuna gives her a small nod and finally sets her cup down. ]
So. [ Her lips quirk. ] I'm interested to hear which seat you would want.
