He really should have seen the feint coming. It was too obvious a distraction and on the inside, Kavi can practically hear his old instructor scolding him. Never let yourself get distracted by something bright and obvious which gets waved in your face. That's a rookie mistake which might cost you your life. Perhaps a good thing that Kavi's old instructor isn't here to witness his shame.
Pain burns in his back where Setsuna's kick connected and sent him staggering forward and for a moment, Kavi is winded, tripping over his own feet-
Until he lets the momentum carry him forward into a roll. His shoulder hits the ground harder than he intends to but it's cushioned enough, strong enough to allow for Kavi to rest his weight on for a split second.
When he comes to a halt, Kavi lift his eyes, assessing for a single moment the distance, the range, how much effort it would take and makes a decision. Again, his eyes meet Setuna's eyes which seem to be as clear as pools and as unwavering as a rock standing strong against the tides. Both palms hit the naked ground and Kavi sends a quick splash of mana into it, pictures the blunt fist forming with which he intends to knock Setsuna off-balance.
Only that his mana does an odd little flipflop, grows into something wilder and brighter and sharper than he wanted it to and the fist made entirely of earth comes out as a spike. Kavi's eyes widen in horror and he gasps out a warning before he tries to latch onto the trailing stings of mana to weaken the spell into crumbling. ]
