All this bad blood here: Open job post!
Who: Caren and you!
When: After the War, 4/20-4/30
Where: Graupera, Gresser, Palamede
What: Job stuff, including getting yelled at, meeting Servants, all that jazz.
Rating: Pretty sure we got into Rated R for fetish talk and violent thoughts in the Gilgamesh thread there
I: Vessel of hope
[It was an unusual request, but she didn't think it would be one that she could by pass. While there were some parts of the order and the church that she held in contempt, she was a priestess, through and through. Her offering was a simple one, a plain boat with a puffin candle, white and sheltered by slender glass.
A touch of mana lights it with a murmured word. And when the sun goes down, she's there with the rest of the crowd. Her boat is set down, and she starts to sing.
It's a surprisingly lovely, sweet voice-and her singing is in Latin. They are hymns, songs of mourning and blessing, things that one might hear at a funeral.
Her eyes flick to anyone who approaches. She may cease, continue until she is finished, or start singing instead 'Amazing Grace' as an invitation for anyone to join her, if they so wish.]
II: A six pack is worth a thousand pictures
A
Ah. That would be perfect.
[She nods to herself, as she focuses with her camera. This is an odd thing to take a photo off...perhaps it is of a hay bale, a plate of food, or a child crying after falling on their knees and skinning it. Really weird pictures like that. But it's not the only things she's taking a picture of. See that fountain? She's pointing you, hero, to stand underneath it.]
If you don't mind? I'd like a picture of you under the spray. I think it would be very appealing.
B
[She's hungry, but she as to pay for her meal before she has to actually gets anything. She's frowning at the riddle she was offered. It's rather...well, it's not a bad one, but she doesn't want to give up either. It's down on a piece of paper, and she's staring at it, as if it will give it answers.]
I know the answer. Just...need a moment.
[She scowls down at the paper. The locals, at least, seem amused by her. She's intelligent enough, but mostly she's stuck. She needs some orange juice or something to get her brain working but noooo, stupid town rule won't let her have it.]
III: Rebuild Palamede!
A
[She had been moping, as the usual. She was not a strong woman as things went, but she could clean. She was used to it, as things went, but the fact that the local that was showing her around didn't want to come in here...she respected that, and didn't press, for once. Caren could be surprisingly compassionate to those in need.
Which did not mean she would be so nice to those passing by. If anyone tried to walk through her recently washed floor for example...all it would take was a twist of her wrist, and she'd fling mop water at their head. With the mop.
This is slightly better than having her try and recruit someone to help her clean.]
B
[Caren hadn't asked for this. Her face was impassive as the man in front of her-heavier by over a hundred pounds, taller than a foot, maybe more. His mouth was hitched in a permanent smirk on one side, due to scarring. And, he seemed, he didn't have anything to laugh about. People had been hurt. And these heroes, these people God selected were supposed to keep them safe! They were supposed to do better then this!
There was a crowd forming because of this. And while Caren had been singing hymns and other things earlier, she had been heading in for a break. But now...
She watched him, and slowly brought a hand up to wipe at the spittle on her face. She was smiling, a little. Maybe someone wants to watch or...try to step in before something terrible happens.]

3b.
He'll help where he can, offering remedies and advice to those who will listen, cleaning up where he can.
Yoon had actually caught sight of Caren a little bit ago, listening to her sing while he rested for a few minutes. It was a soothing melody.
When she pauses to take a break, Yoon follows, meaning to greet the familiar woman and say hello-- but he doesn't expect the confrontation. Or the aggression. Seeing someone treat Caren like that when she'd clearly only been trying to help makes him mad and prompts something defensively indignant inside him. It reminds him with a sudden, aching pain of Ik-Soo and the people who would hurt him and take advantage of him for being too kind.
Before he can think better of it, Yoon has stepped in front of Caren to face the sneering man. ]
Hey.
You're being rude. That's no way to treat a girl.
no subject
Caren covered her mouth with her had, hiding her smile for a few moments. While she planned to step in, this wasn't the right time. Not yet. And she needed to wipe some of the spittle from her face too.
And, truly she could go for a cup of tea too. She had been singing for long enough that it made her throat ache.]
no subject
...too late to back down now.
He straightens up, squaring his narrow shoulders, hands on his hips. ]
She didn't do anything to you. I get that you're upset. You feel let down by the people who were supposed to protect you.
But harassing them for trying to help isn't going to do anyone any good either.
[ The last thing Yoon wants is a fight, though. He just didn't want Caren to get hurt either. He backs up a step, reaches for her hand. ]
Anyway. We'll be going now.
no subject
Especially tiny people like them.
But Caren manages to make her expression properly somber, and takes his hand, letting their fingers intertwine if that's what he wants. She's done with being yelled at for right now.
Their...opponent doesn't seem to think so. "I'm not done!" He roars it loud enough for most of the street to hear. But Caren steps forward to stare the man in the eye. Calm and her expression still. Like a snake that's poised to strike.]
No. You're done. Go home.
no subject
This is not what happens.
Caren steps toward the aggressive person instead of away, and Yoon shoots her a disbelieving stare, fingers squeezing around her briefly (not hard enough to hurt; he hasn't forgotten). ]
We're drawing more attention, [ he hisses under his breath, only for her to hear. ] We need to go.
no subject
For good reason. To some people who noticed her unblinking stare, she was trying to pick a fight. But she was trying to end one. From the way that the man faltered, he thought her eerie, to the point of offering her various insults as Caren fell back, gaze flickering back towards Yoon.]
I'm ready. Can you sing?
[Her words are murmured but...it was an idea.]
no subject
Uh, yeah. Sure. [ He's pretty alright at singing, even!
BUT WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH NOT GETTING PUNCHED? says the look he's giving her. ]
But why?
no subject
[She squeezes his hand. The window of opportunity is closing, fast.]
He can't do anything if other people think us harmless.
no subject
It doesn't seem like the time to sing, either. ]
Are you serious?
[ She is.
What the hell is he supposed to sing? Caren was the one singing earlier. Hopefully it doesn't have to be the same song. He'll just start awkwardly singing some random song from his world, then... It's not very impressive when his voice sounds so tight. ]
no subject
But after a few bars, Caren gives him a nudge.]
Let me.
[She'll start singing-in latin-a hymn that she knows got a favorable response earlier. No point of getting him to sing if he's too tight.]
no subject
Okay. Deep breath. He tries not to glare back at the guy glaring at them, carefully keeping his eyes away so it won't be perceived as hostile. ]
People are still looking. [ Though, apparently, that is the point: they're looking and seeing peaceful Heroes trying to soothe people's souls a little bit. The grumbling bear of a man from earlier seems to be backing away. ]
Holy crap, it worked... [ That part is just a mumble under his breath, relieved and a little baffled. ]
no subject
She can smile and look pious at the same time though. She has plenty of practice from Church. Practice keeps her from letting a smile come to her face as she continues, and she squeezes his hand in acknowledgement, before she ends her song, just like she had when he saw her.
Though she had to clear her throat a bit at the end, and her voice dropped to a murmur.]
Mm. I'll explain once we're away from the crowd.
[Louder, though still soft, she glances at him through her eyelashes. It's a little of playing the crowd here, and an excuse to get away.]
May we go get some water? My throat feels sore.
no subject
Actually, he's still too preoccupied to notice it.
He nods immediately and moves to pull her away towards a bench further from the crowd, where he can finally let go so he can pull a water bottle from his bag. ]
Here. Drink.
Are you alright?
no subject
Of all people.
But it doesn't stop her from taking the water bottle, and taking in a long sip and a gasp.]
I'm fine. I've been singing for awhile, that's all.
...and it was an excuse for people not to follow.
[Another slow sip.]
Even the romantics wouldn't find us very interesting. Not anymore.
no subject
You can finish that off if you want. I'll fill it up again later.
[ At long last, he figures out what she's talking about though and gives a small start, squinting over at Caren suspiciously. Wait a second. Had she made it seem...?
Oh.
She had.
Yoon bristles, but she's not wrong in that it was a useful ploy, so he doesn't really know what to say about that and finally settles for a heavy sigh and a grunt. ]
It happened to work out this time, but don't go deciding weird things by yourself again!
[ Better change the subject too, before he starts getting red... ]
Anyway, did you come here to sing for the people to cheer them up a bit? It was just regular singing, right? [ No magic, he means. He didn't think he felt any, but he's not exactly any good at it quite yet. ]
no subject
[She'll take it. She's thirsty (like some people are for fanfiction). But she doesn't react at all to his grumbling. At least, not much. At least her voice is normal now.]
Weird things? I don't think it's supposed to be odd.
[But anyway.]
I was just singing Latin hymns. There's nothing special about it, magic wise. I don't know how to use magic with sound, just a bit of...
[She makes a small gesture.]
dime store magic, if that.
no subject
You said you were used to it where you come from, already. What kind of magic were you used to back in your world?
no subject
[She lifted her shoulders in a slight shrug.]
I must put emphasis that while I have knowledge of magic, I myself cannot use it. It's partially due to bloodlines, and what the body is capable of.
And that makes what the person is capable of using magic very individualized. Spells using the elements, detection, creation of creatures, binding spirits and creatures themselves...it goes on.
Healing is also possible. I've heard of those who can push their hands into others and pull out foreign objects, all without hurting them.
