[Open] Creating works of art one dish at a time
Who: Emil and open!
When: Week before the festival | Evening of the 7th
Where: Town Plaza - First Bloom Festival
What: Cooking, shopping, and watching the Oubliette
Rating: None
a. Festival Preparations – Backdated to last week
A slender, blond-haired young man shows up at the plaza daily, warmly greeting fellow Heroes, locals, and foreigners alike. He’s eager to help – but not with the heavy lifting! The booth he assists at boasts delightful scents from warm ovens and stovetops. And soon the counters are adorned with vegetables cut into flower patterns and little cakes in animal shapes. Emil wields a knife with an expert hand, trimming dough and neatly peeling oranges into creative shapes. The fun is contagious, and he’ll happily join other cooks in the preparation.
b. First Evening of the Festival
A selection of scarves, silky and light as air or woven in soft materials, lay in neat rows on display in a shop stall. While Emil browses, the shopkeeper shows off his wares. Wouldn’t a red scarf be the perfect accompaniment to his uniform? Or how about a cream muffler made in the finest wool!
“Ah, no... how much for this one?” The shopkeeper looks at Emil’s choice, a dark blue scarf, with immediate approval and quotes an inflated number.
Do I look that much like a tourist? “Would you take 250 for it? 280?”
It would appear he’s new to haggling...
c. Later that night
There’s the gleam of a white uniform high in the branches of an old oak tree on the outskirts of the festival. Seems someone found a good seat for fireworks! Or, perhaps not? Should anyone climb after him, they’ll find Emil ignoring the festivities and staring towards the giant tree in the heart of Caissa. With the abundance of mana in the air, the Oubliette seems lit from within. The glow is mesmerizing even amid the fireworks.
It’s ten thirty and curfew fast approaches. Emil may spend the night here if someone doesn’t call him back.

Following close order, Arashi's at a comfortable mixing pace by then, as though in a natural element. Emil's question gets a soft smile in return, and Arashi doesn't look away from stirring the batter on an airy answer.
"You could call them a team of mine, I suppose! We stand together as one, since it's much simpler to do so as a 'unit' than fight alone, you know?" Though Arashi catches how that could be misconstrued - blinking and looking to Emil a second later. "Not that we get into fist-fights or anything! Or at least I don't - I can't promise the same for those boys..."
Arashi's eyes shut, annoyed at the thought. Though it's soothing to remember that the Yumenosaki left behind was getting better, thanks to that transfer student... caught between missing those days and staying in the present for Emil, Arashi smiles again. Or tries to.
"Competition gets... intense where I'm from. But my unit is one of the strongest," That gets a none too subtle hint of pride. "We 'Knights' are not to be underestimated."
Already in a better mood on that note, Arashi fills a pan for the cakes and moves the batch along to the oven, almost in a dance and elegant all the while.

He’s arranging a few chocolate designs over a round cake when he blinks and raises his head sharply. "You're a knight?"
That’s unexpected! He's never seen signs of formal swordsmanship training from Arashi. Graceful and self-aware movement, certainly, but not in a martial arts sort of way... more like a dancer or performer.
"I'm called a knight back home... that means I wield a sword to protect someone." He nods over his shoulder at the sword strapped horizontally to his back. "Does being a knight mean something different where you're from?"

Looking fond of it, of all of these things, a more genuine smile comes in play in reminiscence. With hands free for the moment, Arashi returns to the station to watch Emil's side of the job, maybe a little curious of his sword now, too....
"Are you a knight for the people, too, Emil? Or someone special~?"

Investigation of Emil’s workstation reveals more art in progress. Intricate circles of chocolate make lovely flowers on the cakes. He dots them with little candies, choosing colors and placement carefully, letting the design form in his head as it does by hand.
Conversation turned to him, he absently replies.
"Hm, both. I protect one person, but we've helped a lot of people while traveling. Neither Marta or I like walking away from a situation if we can do something. It just wouldn’t feel right, you know?”

Sometimes it's a funny word to think about, Arashi's own sense of it so capricious once upon a time. Is it still now? Less so than those hideous days, but...
It strikes that Emil had given a word of kindness before this, too, leaving Arashi blinking and slightly displaced after this little a reverie.
"And... you're right. It does feels wonderful to do what I do! And I don't think it's imprudent of me to bet you could say the same thing~! ♪ "
After Emil gets a wink☆, Arashi glances back to the oven's timer. Waiting is the hardest part of baking... but it's no real matter when the company is good.
