Obligatory Beach Episode (the actual beach part)

Who: Everyone at the beach (and Vietnam)

Where: Capablanca: Beach
What: In order to complete a few jobs set in Capablanca, a volleyball match and a beach bbq happened (at different times). As usual, everyone can end up joining for no goddamn reason (other than money maybe).
Rating: PG is always the safe option.

VOLLEYBALL

[In order to complete this job and win the trust of the merfolk, a beach volleyball session has been organised. What are they going to do? It has been suggested that they play on the shallows, stick up a net and then hit balls back and forth to the merfolk. Seems easy enough...right?

WRONG. Beach Volleyball is super intense. Start planning your strategies, because you could be unfortunate in that your mermaid friends are actually professional underwater volleyballers. Which is probably like Blitzball or something.]


BEACH BBQ

[One of the best ways to learn about each other and also WIN THE TRUST of local populace is to hold a random Beach Barbeque. Who knows where Vietnam managed to amass all these ingredients for the barbeque (trade secret) but everyone can help cook! If they know how. Alternatively, all barbeques need people to EAT so come judge the food. And talk and make merry.

There is word going around that someone left a whole case of alcohol for mixing. Who on earth brought that?! (And left a convenient list of drinks and how to mix them). We'll blame the proprietor of a bar who wants more publicity.]

Sombrero? [ Kobato looks at Aigis in surprise! ]

You mean like those fancy large hats with jingles?

[ Not all sombreros have fancy jingles Kobato...! She makes a gesture with her hand indicating how big sombreros are.]

I don't think it's considered particularly fancy, and I don't think it needs the jingles!

But yes, it's a wide-brimmed hat worn in countries like Mexico to protect the wearer from sunlight. It produces quite a bit of shade with its large brim!

You're so considerate. Have you been to Mexico before? It must be sunny place if they need really huge hats.

[Not that sunny and warm is necessarily a bad thing...Kobato's never been to Mexico before. It makes her curious. Aigis seems to have an idea of what Mexcio's environment is like at least. ]

No, I haven't! Before coming here, I'd never been out of Japan. But it's my understanding that Mexico is a very warm, sunny country in many parts.

Oh I see! I think it might be nice to travel there sometime.

Everyone's going to need a sombrero in Mexico.

[ Kobato hasn't been to many places herself so she understands. ]

Mexican and Mexican-inspired food is very popular in countries like America, but I've never had it.

I would imagine a sombrero isn't necessary if one is inside, though.

I'm not too good at sports! [ Especially not volley ball!]

Sports... [She eyes the volleyball net with curiosity and some trepidation.] I don't know if I'm good at sports. I've never played any.

We'll find out if you're good at sports or not today!

Isn't it exciting? Sometimes I wish I could run really fast. Are you a fast runner Aigis?

[It'll help her a lot if she can back up her movements with speed.]

Hmmm... running? I wonder. [She seems to be giving this far too much thought.] It's true that I can reach considerable speeds if running in a straight line. But given my increased mass, I'm concerned I may not be able to change directions quickly. Isn't that required for this sport?

Oh yeah, you're right! You have to go where the ball is.

Don't worry about it I believe in you! They always say you'll never know how good you are until you try!

[Kobato doesn't seem too worried about Aigis agility. She'd probably be faster than Kobato at any rate. ]

All right! I'll give it my best shot! Thank you so much for your confidence in me.

But... who are we playing?

I think our opponents are really good at sports!

Could that mean trouble for us?

[They have 0 experience with this thing.]

--are we supposed to be playing experienced opponents?

That could be very bad! If neither of us have played before...!

[wingbottle]

[ Kobato lets out a short scream. Talk about an overreaction. ]

What are we gonna do ?? We need to practice more!! Or else we aren't going to win!

[seventhgen]

P-please calm down! There's no need to be frightened! As we still have yet to encounter our opponents, I assume we may still have time to practice before our match is schedule to begin!

Oh you're absolutely right! Then we should practice REALLY REALLY hard!

That way we'll know what to do!

[Kobato why do you look ready to fight something...this isn't a boxing competition!]

[seventhgen]

Yes, that's absolutely correct! We should practice to the full extent of our abilities!

[A pause.] Do you know how to play this...?

[wingbottle]

I don't know the rules too well.

Care to remind me what they were again? [Kobato's looking back and forth while fretting over this.]

[seventhgen]

Hmm... [Aigis frowns, tapping a finger against her chin in thought.] If my understanding is correct, we need to make sure that the ball passes over the net and lands on the ground on our opponent's side, while preventing them from doing the same. That seems very simple.

[wingbottle]

We need to pay attention to the ball then? Uh, I think I can do that without tripping!

Let's try!

[Kobato passes a volleyball to Aigis with a huge smile on her face. She's so nervous though.]

[seventhgen]

[Aigis calculates the trajectory and quickly moves to position herself underneath the ball, leaving very deep footprints in the sand. She stops... and catches the ball.] --are we supposed to catch it, then?

Maybe? We should watch the people around us play!

The other heroes must be trying to win the match too!

[She sounds clueless as ever. Is this truly a lost cause? ]

[seventhgen]

Aha! Yes, that's a very good idea! By studying how the other heroes play the game, we can extrapolate the rules for ourselves!

Do you have a preferred person to watch? [She'd watch Minato, but he's not around.]

[wingbottle]

How about that person over there? They look really skilled! [ Her eyes are sparking as she watches a stranger toss a ball. ]

I wanna become good like them!
