ITEM ACQUIRED: new assistant!
Who: Doctor Thunderland Junior (
corpsedoctor) and Vietnam (
hoasen).
When: After this thread.
Where: Hall of Glory.
What: Doctor and assistant meet face to face -- and he drags her to another city for research on fish sex.
Rating: PG?
[ With enough clothes thrown at Maka (being his cat-sized owl-griffon carrier), Thunderland is ready to head to Capablanca! All but sprinting down the halls, he can only be glad that his coordination is as good as it is. He takes a few sharp turns around corners and skids to a halt when he realizes he "overshot" the hallway he meant to turn down. All in all, anyone could hear him clomping down the way.
Maka, however, is leisurely following after her master. It flies a few distance then trots after -- attempting to appear cool and aloof. Only when Thunderland is a good hallway away does his carrier actually run to catch up with him.
He abruptly halts -- skids across the floor -- when he catches sight of who he can assume to be Vietnam. Short by his standards (his standards being that he stands close to six-foot-four) with long black hair that is tied. Thunderland is immediately at her side. His hand reaching out to give hers a frantic shake. ]
Miss Vietnam, I presume! [ A beat. ] I do presume. [ The frantic hand-shaking stops as he lets go of her hand to return his hands to himself. ] Yes, well, presumptions being as they are... I... [ He is leaning over her with his hands making strangle motions in the air. ] ... we have to get to Capablanca! We have to see them mating!

It's probably better if it's her who has a lot more patience.
Vietnam had packed neatly, not actually knowing what should bring other than the essentials (IT'S A BEACH TOWN) and planned to buy the rest while she was there. With Flappy Bird sitting on her shoulder and her bag in her hand, she tries to find Thunderland. She didn't realise he found her first until she was looking at him and was shaking his hand, with more energy than she expected to muster!
He wasn't joking about being really tall either, considering she's less than 5'1.]
A-ah, it is nice to meet you, Doctor! [She bows her head politely as well.] You presume correctly, let's...go... ["We have to see them mating." She quickly spins around to see if anyone even heard that.]

[ Thunderland is quick to recover with a breathed out sigh of relief. His excitement of this discovery has caused him to peak into his manic state of research. It happens when he feels that rush of knowledge just beyond his reach yet still well within his grasp! But he remembers himself well enough to be glad to find his assistant! ]
Let's go! [ His hands are clapped together before he blinks at her spinning around. He whips around to see if there is something that he has missed. Oh! There is Maka, dragging his bag around her neck, and looking rather put-off that he has been running everywhere. ]
Good ear, Vietnam! [ Clapping his hand on her shoulder, he breathes in deep. ] That will come in handy while we are out at night! [ And he pauses to lean down to pick up the bag off of Maka's neck and allow the owl-griffon to sit upon his shoulder. ] It is a shame that we cannot experiment with myself should the case be that we cannot find the couple or a similar couple... but I do feel that my father would disapprove.
[ Heading out! A pause as he is once more leaning down to speak to her face-to-face. ] Disapprove only in that I am already an outlier as a Hero and brought to this world rather than a resident of this land to begin with, I wish to make clear. There are too many variables and leaves the situation without answers that can be properly correlated. Otherwise, I feel he would be quite proud. [
Poor Vietnam.]no subject
Don't worry, Doctor, good things also come to those who wait! Like the love of Maka since that poor thing looks like she can do with a break. Sadly, that was not what Vietnam was looking for, but if it could save the poor Carrier from suffering more, then she'll also accept responsibility.]
A-ah, it...isn't a problem. [She pats his hand, slightly awkwardly. That being said, he's not wrong that her sense are rather keen in that they're experienced in battle. If she switches that on and stays alert, she'll be able to detect whatever he searches for!
Also she just choked and coughed at his exclamation.] A-ah, y-you do not have to subject yourself to be an experiment! I mean, it is good that you a dedicated to the cause, but...[She stands firm!] I am sure that you may be able to find a loving couple who could answer your questions. [If he keeps it a secret, of course. Then his father will be pleased that his purity(?!?!?!?!) will remain intact--
Wait?] He...wouldn't mind at all? I mean, it's understandable, it is not like any of us come from this place. [They haven't even left the Hall yet and this ride is already Wild.]
no subject
He points (dramatically) at his assistant, standing tall and nearly having Maka fall off his shoulders. ] It has been my thinking that the creatures in the dungeons were as Gaichuu. Threats to the heart. But if they were put there due to being hybrids, that makes my actions inexcusable!
Truth has to be found in order to discover if there is a link! If that would mean to use myself, that is more than an acceptable price for my blind ignorance. But ... already discussed why that is impossible so we shall do the next best! [ Look for fish smut!
And a pause. ] Oh, yes. Father would understand my thinking and believe it to be the right course in the path of science. But he would not forgive me for adding more uncertain variables. [ A huff. Yes, well, time to spin around and head toward the city! ]
To science, Vietnam!
no subject
But oof, she looks at his finger.] G-Gaichuu? [What does this mean?] Threats to the heart? I'm sorry for not understanding, Doctor, if you can start from the beginning? I would like to understand more. [Then she can help him out. Well, as a muscle, but still help him out.]
You're very dedicated to this, it's very impressive. [Despite the strangeness of it all. But they say true scientists are never held down by society's values.]
But ah, as long as you do not get into trouble? [Thinking about it, she really shouldn't be telling him that he should listen to his father even if he did disagree with Thunderland's choices. It's not like she was completely obedient to her former guardians either.
Either way, she makes sure to gather her things, so that they can make the trip to Capablanca! TIME TO GET SOME BIG PUBLIC TRANSPORT. Hopefully the Airy is in.]
no subject
Maka, by this time, has grown tired of being jostled about on her perch. She hops down off of his shoulder to stroll -- occasionally fly -- next to them. Despite her attempts to appear as aloof as before, she does appear to be actively trying to keep up this time as she seems to realize Thunderland is in his GO-phase of science. ]
Yes, the beginning. I can't start at the beginning-beginning, but I can explain a little to you. Gaichuu are monsters that exist in my world. The lack heart and they lack soul. Heartless creatures of this sort then mindlessly seek out heart in order to fill their emptiness. [ Excuse him, people, as he may slide past them in order to keep hurrying forward. ] They devour the very spirit of a person if they could. It also isn't what kills. Death comes after because they lack the energy, the willpower, the drive to keep living. They lose are memories and all sense of self. They aren't "they" anymore.
[ Ah, good. The Airy! He picks up his stride so to make sure that they shall make it -- who knows when it would come back?! ] Trouble is a figurative state to be in, Vietnam! If it turns out that my hypothesis is correct, I am going to have quite the argument with our Prime Minister, with every single power of body until this wrong is corrected. Trouble is what is going to come to those that allowed this state to continue... and let us still call ourselves Heroes.
[ For this is the world of those monsters, too. And onto the ship. Thunderland immediately pales as he decides that he will curl up in one of the seats with his bag pressed against his chest. Please forgive him. He flew a few times before, but the most memorable airship ride he had ... it is when he lost his eye. ]
no subject
I am fine with a rough beginning, yes. [And now she listens very carefully. From what she is guessing is that because these monsters he called "Gaichuu" lack hearts, they seek it from others. So basically, it turns others into statues? Which kills them?] I see...so you are trying to figure out if this exists here? The Gaichuu?
[She follows after him so they can board the airship!] Before you take on the government here, let's try to confirm your hypotheses first! [It worries her that if there are such things as Gaichuu, or something very similar, then that they would be having a great threat on their hands, along with the Noir. In any case, she knows there are mindlessly mad creatures, one of them turned her into stone. Briefly, thankfully.
When she moves to sit beside Thunderland, she notices that after all his high energy and excitment, he now seems rather nervous? She doesn't know the story of his eye, but if she did, she wouldn't at all blame him. Still, she worries.]
Doctor? Are you feeling unwell?
no subject
[ He relates "heart" and "mana" to being essentially the same. ] Indeed, there is no need to accuse them of anything until we have enough facts. I also would not wish to undermine those that are attempting to protect the hearts of others. However, I will not allow the lives of the many become more than the lives of the few. [ It is projecting, he supposes. He has become rather anti-government in the past months. The government of his own world would sacrifice hundreds of lives if it meant to save thousands, if it meant to save the world. A plan that requires sacrifice -- even willing sacrifice -- is no plan at all. Thunderland hates the idea that he may be blind in any thought and allowed another government to allow him to be complacent in suffering of others.
He breathes out a sigh as he rests his head against the bag. Maka seems content enough with Vietnam to attempt to hop up to sit on her lap. The owl-griffon gives Thunderland a bit of a glare. It prides itself on looking "cool" and his constant running around makes her look panicked. ]
No, no... I just do not trust airships. I realize that what caused -- I realize that is an odd statement. What caused a crash for me was an external problem. One that came from something no one could have prepared for, and yet, I cannot help but feel uneasy. [ A sigh. ] I do not know enough about the world to ensure your safety, Vietnam. I have brought you here as an assistant and so... if something should happen...
[ He turns, raising his voice considerably. ] ... please, feel free to use my body as a shield and gather all information on the interspecies breeding as a dying wish from me!
no subject
[Is what she's beginning to think. But he has a fair point. If it is really urgent, he should make it known. For now, they just need evidence.] If we are here to save the world, we might as well do it properly, I suppose. [Not her world, but she still doesn't want innocents to suffer for it. She is a politician in a way, but that means she has rallied against regimes that the people and herself find appalling. She understands the need for change, even if that means changing everything the higher power has done.
Poor Maka...she looks cool in Vietnam's eyes. Hardworking and all! She pats her a little as she settles down on her lap, letting Flappy Bird sit on her shoulder. Meanwhile, her free hand rubs Thunderland's back, since she thought he was unwell. Well, he honestly isn't feeling well, he just wasn't physically ill.]
So something that has happened in the past...perhaps we should've went by train. Don't worry, Doctor. I can't really do much against an airship, but I will still look after you as best I can.
[. . .]
So...you don't have to be my shield. [Thinking about it, she is sure that Thunderland dying would mean she's stuck watching fish porn.]
no subject
[ Who knew that so much anti-government and apocalyptic doom could come from fish smut? Thunderland knew. But he also realizes he may be working himself into a frenzy and none of this is true. All that could be true is that someone out there is having sex with a fish-monster! He has to find out more about that -- he has to find out if there is some niche "kink" and cannot just mean having sex with these creatures, right? ]
It is all right. If we went by train, we may miss some critical information. To get there within hours, that is what is important. We may even be able to interview those who engage in such behavior! [ His arm shoots out before he once more is hugging his bag. He'll be okay. This is the worst. Logically, there is nothing to fear. The suns in this world are not artificial and should not flicker. Logically. ]
Oh, that's very kind of you... to not use me as a shield. [ Very kind. But he probably would still do what he could to shield her. ] I shall still hope that if anything happens that you will continue to carry on the research. Someone mentioned videos... I have never heard of such a thing... but I presume it is like projecting images? Do you think we could find some of this if we cannot find the couple or couples like them?
no subject
[The end of the world. Again, not her world, but not one she would like to see destroyed anyway. And who would've thought that fish smut would be one of the deciding factors! At least, if the research proves fruitful. Because it could just give him a weird reputation, but she could try to stop that from happening!]
A-ah, you are very brave then, Doctor. [He didn't say anything about this when they headed towards the airships. Rightfully so, because she would've stopped him and insisted they board the trains. In any case, she finds this admirable, despite her worries. So she continues to pat his back. Her presence maybe there, but this is to assure him that she really is there.]
But of course, I mean, it wouldn't be the same. [Sure they just met, but now she's his assistant! She's really rolling with it, but he's been pretty nice enough so far that she will continue to do so.] Videos? Ah yes, it is like projecting moving images. I don't know why there isn't a lot here, when the technology is possible. Perhaps there will be some, hidden, of the material you want. Or even photographs.
no subject
[ He completely agrees! The end of the world can be stopped. If such a motion is being made, and he cannot say that it is not with so many Heroes being called upon, he would rather find a scientific solution than one that requires sacrifice. ]
No, no. [ The idea of him being brave? There are others that are much braver. Also, the pats on the back were rather soothing. He supposes that has something to do with human touch and the idea of comfort behind it through -- he is going to just rest his head against his bag and give an apologetic look toward Maka. At least, she appears to be happier sitting on Vietnam than with Thunderland. ]
Perhaps. If we can find some hidden material, that might be enough to try to see if we can find others. Surely, if enough of an item is made, that means there are those that are interested. [ Going to find all those kinky fish-people! ]
no subject
[Thinking about it, she does know a lot of other people who might want to talk to Thunderland about science!! To save the world. Perhaps she could ask them too, to see how they go. Because yes, there are probably better ways to go about this.]
I believe so. [Bravery doesn't have to be compared, after all. He's brave in his own way. It's okay, she has two hands. One for Thunderland, one for Maka. Both of you will be fine, as long as she keeps patting. Flappy Bird is happily asleep right now.]
Oh... [He...does have a fair point then. If there is more, that means someone else had already thought about it. She's just unsure if the material is something he would like. After all, it could be staged.] Well! We'll be able to see when we get there. Ask around, but perhaps discreetly. It won't be long, just a few hours.
[She blanches. It hasn't really even been one hour?! Would the Doctor be able to handle it?] D-do you need water? I brought some.
no subject
[ He is going to make an anxious sound that he'll muffle into his bag. ] If you believe so, then I shall not stomp on your beliefs. But it is worth nothing that you are not horrible. [ Thunderland may be the most socially-awkward doctor, but he tries to give compliments where they are due. For Vietnam to trust a man like him is one thing, since he is lacking in his usual credentials and said credentials mean nothing, but to still come with him is another! ]
Just a few hours... no, no... water will not settle... [ Few hours. He pales. ] Why don't you tell me about yourself, instead? You are to be my assistant and so I would know of you, if you please.
no subject
Aha, well, I'm touched either way, that you consider me worthy to come with you. [He may be socially awkward, but she knew he meant well. He didn't trample all over Slaine when so many others did. Including herself, until they talked it through.
His refusal of water worries her, but perhaps he has the right idea that talking more might help distract him. She's not sure her story would be worth telling for a few hours. It's long, but boring.] O-oh, well, ah. I am a country. A spirit of a country, to be more accurate, one that walks with the people of the country. I have a physical human form...oh, if you are to be my boss, then I will share my human as well. It is Sen. [She's still playing along with the idea.]
no subject
You are marked well and can grow. It matters little if you do not see it now but you will see it later. [ Yes, talking and doing what he can for others is much better spent of his time than mulling over crashing. ]
Spirit of a country. [ And human name is Sen. His face presses more into the bag. Almost like Lag Seeing. ] I definitely wish to dissect you one day. You should not sound so dismissive of how amazing you sound to me, Miss Sen.
[ If on the ground, he may have sounded more enthusiastic. May have risen put of his seat to cheerfully declare how he is going to dissect. But as it stands, or sits, he would rather remain as he is. ]
Your brief description... you are very fascinating so if you could continue that would be wonderful.
no subject
But, if you think so, I will try my best. Always. [If anything, that is what she's good for. Hard work. She'll work hard for him too.
Meanwhile, she flushes that he finds her impressive, but simultaneously pales because he wants to...dissect her??? That's the first time anyone ever said that to her? He sounds excited, in a rather sick way, so she just keeps rubbing his back, closer to his neck now in case his head needs to be stable.
She clears her throat because she needs to address the matter of being dissected.] A-ah, well, my body is exactly like that of a human. All the insides. Not in this world, since I am no longer immortal, but it would have been easy for you to dissect me back home. [WOW, amazing. Or if somehow her powers return, she does not know.] And you can really all me Sen.
But oh...if you insist, Doctor, I will tell you more about myself. I'm the third sibling in my family, the one on the Asian continent. China took us in, first with Japan, and then myself, and many siblings after. Years later, I grew independent, but also was taken in by another brother of a different continent. To a human, it looks like our country became a colony of an empire, but usually that empire still takes care of us like family. [This must be all confusing, she really should've sorted this out first.]
no subject
Exactly like a human's? I'm a little disappointed, but I'm certain there are some secrets. [ He presses his face that much more against the bag. ] For example, have you tried to use the magic that we supposedly have access to, Sen? [ No "Miss Sen," he supposes that is fair. If it is not how she wants to be called, then he should not call her it. ]
I'm afraid very little of that information made sense to me. In my world, there is only one government. There are multiple areas, but they are part of the same country. The areas are separated by waterways. [ Which makes him wonder. If they were made into a human like Sen, would there be three different or one with multiple personalities? Such a thought is fascinating, but he still feels like he doesn't quite have all the pieces. ] Are any of your family here? You are the second oldest, then?
no subject
Ah, well, I can regenerate and recover from wounds that could kill a human. I am unsure how. [She knows it's something to do with being connected to a country, being one herself, but the mechanics? She's just accepted it as is, not as something that could potentially be scientific. But while she doesn't know it herself, Prussia lost his immortality and Nikoniko returned to being human and ended up married and with a son, so if Thunderland could find anything, it probably is something mystical.] I have tried to use that magic though, yes. It is not something my body ever felt before. [She has a feeling her original body is "locked up" or she had been transformed into a human. And Sen is totally fine!]
So, you only have one country? Interesting, so if your world had people like me, then you would only have one representative. But your regions could have a representative each. [Their worlds are very different, but it is known that smaller areas have their own personifications too. They sometimes come with the major countries to events and important meetings.] Back home, some lands are divided by oceans and seas, but there are still continents, and each with any number of countries.
[She then shakes her head.] I am the only one of my kind here. My family...I'm the third oldest. China, the one who took us in, we consider him an older brother, or a Teacher. So he is first.
no subject
[ A beat. ] It's interesting to think that there are more worlds that have more than one country. The exchange of ideas. The idea that one is not tied down by one government and one idea of how the people should be governed. [ If they could have seen how other people live, would they have continued to make the poor choices that they did? ] It must be nice to be able to have all that information where you come from... and all the bodies that you could dissect.
[ Think of different regions that have different creatures! Think of the information that could be gathered! ]
The third oldest? I see... that is how you view things versus thinking of China as your father, Sen. Well, either way, you are a credit to your family. I shall make note of it for the future, if you like.
no subject
On that note--] Hm...I wonder too. I feel, well I feel something. Like something flows out of me, and channels itself into another form. It's...how to say, like the concept of chi? That's what I think, anyway. I am not sure how the others feel. [Perhaps everyone has a different way of feeling his mana, she will never know.]
You describe it exactly as how it is. Sure, we have many disagreements, but we try to work through them. Learn and grow as we do so. Have a variety of cultures that we can appreciate. [Not all governments are ever perfect, but they do learn from each other.] You...are right about that too. [Seriously, thanks to climate, there would be a lot of different bodies from different creatures!]
But yes, that is how it works. And of course. I will tell you the names of my siblings. [And so she does. So now that when Taiwan actually enters the game, he can find her!] But what about yourself, Doctor? What of your family? I just know you have a father.
no subject
[ At least he sounds a little less sickly as he starts to scribble down some notes. ] A variety of cultures. Even the separation of the country by the waterways has people learn to adapt differently, but ... that is more the culture of the rich versus the poor. [ Actual cultures to learn and thrive from. And amazing creatures to dissect! ] Why is there no faster speed for airships?
[ A small nod as he starts to make note of the siblings that Vietnam has. It is good to know one's assistant's family. A person and their heart is not a singular idea. Right. ] Yes, it has just been my father and me. I am an only child and I do not recall my mother. All the same, it has been just us ... dissecting and analyzing and researching together. [ Happy times. Happy times that he now can share with Vietnam! Time to impart the joy of dissection upon another! ]
no subject
[But now he's sufficiently distracted, perhaps all will be well!] Mmm, yes, we have that within each of our cultures too, so it is even more varied. [She looks around as he asks that, wondering if there was a clock about.] I'm sure a lot of time has passed.
[She watches as he writes down all their names. She's not entirely sure how well they would take to him, but she does know that every single one of them are about as eccentric.] Ah, I see, that is why you want to do him proud. So he is a doctor too? He taught you everything you know? [It sounds like rather nice though, that Thunderland was about to do something he loved with his father. Discover his true calling in such a way. And now she gets to know it too! Yay(?!)] Curiously, Doctor, why dissection in particular?
no subject
Gaichuu are, as I said, those that devour heart and empty inside. Even if you devour another's heart, that does not mean that you acquire heart. Not unless you devour ... a lot. But even then... anyway, Bees use various weapons to fire shards of their own hearts into Gaichuu. [ And objects and others. But let's not get into that. ] Pieces that can be replenished so long as one does not fire too much. Like anger, hunger. Those things your heart can restore on its own. Once fired into a Gaichuu, it enters its empty body and resounds.
The Gaichuu break apart because it has no heart to accept the feelings inside of it. [ A small nod. ] That which allows a Bee to fire a shot like that is a Spirit Amber. It turns a shard of the heart into a bullet. [ And with his long-winded explanation down he is getting close to her face, again. ] Are you saying that you have the means in your world to use heart bullets through martial arts and not even a Spirit Amber? That it is something that those of high abilities can do? And what I said, does that sound about right?
[ A beat as he thinks on the question of making his father proud. ] Yes, he started teaching me. The rest I learned from study. While having him proud is an added bonus if he is, I'd rather look after people. [ Tap pen on Vietnam's head. ] Like you. So, I shall tell you the glory of dissection. People assume that the corpse is useless and that it should only be buried. They think that about animals, humans, everything. Put it in the ground and have some memories for it, but it has no more use for the living. I cannot accept that! I will find use for every single dead creature!
no subject
Amberground...I am guessing that is where you are from? [Is that the name of his country? The concept of Bee is definitely something that does not exist. She listens carefully, to make sense of these complexities that she also thought could've all been fiction. And yet, it is very real for others here. This is very real for Thunderland.]
Nothing like that exists back home, but I think the idea is similar to what chi is. I mean, again it is not something that actually exists, but the idea of focusing? I think that could align with how a Bee uses its heart energy to combat a Gaichuu?
[Once again, she listens to his life story. Thunderland is a very fascinating individual, despite all his eccentricities. She straightens up a little when he taps his pen on her head.] A-ah, Doctor, how kind. [It's not so bad to be his assistant, even if he's weird.] You know, you bring up a valid point. After all, once someone dies, they could choose to donate their organs to save another. To further progress, there are risks to be taken, no?
no subject
Yes, Amberground is where I am from. [ He perks up that much more. So heart is like chi. It is a philosophy to relate to magic and mana. His eye starts that manic twinkle but ah, they're still up in the air so he can't do much of anything. ]
You understand. You really understand. [ More nodding. ] Your body and brain would be wonderful to dissect. [ The highest compliment that he can give. ] But you are using them both right now for the betterment of this world, of yourself, and so... I hope to wait a long time ... perhaps, even never... [ Ah, that might be too much in waiting. But the sentiment is there. ] to dissect them, Sen.
no subject
[But yes, Thunderland, you should breathe! Each time he looks like he struggles, she rubs his back more warmly, instead of idly.]
Amberground...[Strangely, the name itself sounds lovely. But hearing what he says, it doesn't sound like a very gentle place.
She's surprised, since he looks so pleased, but at the same time, what is this?! She's not entirely sure if this is a compliment, or he wants to study her, or...
Ah, he said he doesn't want to dissect her, if at all. That's probably the nicest thing that he could ever say, and she's realised this by just sitting and conversing with him. On an airship that seems to want to kill him.]
Doctor, that might be one of the nicest things you could say to me. [There see, she said it!] You need not worry about me. [at least, most of the time. She's immortal outside of this world.] As long as you stay safe as well. [She'll make sure of it.]
no subject
I know! [ Nice that she understands it to be so nice. It means he has faith in her to stay alive and so that he would not have to use her body for the betterment of those that were lost. ] I'm afraid that -- [ He makes a choking sound. ] -- worry is something -- to say that is that I would be put out if something happened to my new assistant. Don't mistake me for an overly sentimental person.
[ Embarrassed doctor is suddenly embarrassed as he has been given excess amount of praise and now wants to recant some of it for the sake of not looking too soft. ] I'll do my best. I cannot die until I dissect every creature that exists in this world, after all!
no subject
Also he's probably more sentimental than he shows, like how she is. She's just really shy sometimes! So she totally understands.] W-well, I suppose it would be best to...how to say...be able to work with you for much longer? [Not that she considers this actual work, but it's close enough. She's a lot more comfortable rolling with it now she's gotten to know him a lot better.]
I trust you will be able to succeed, Doctor, since you have a passion to contribute.
