[Open] Concerning Ankle Biters

Who: Bit!de and you!
When: 11/21-11/27ish
Where: Gisela Palace in one prompt, Caissa for the rest
What: Kaede wakes up from the [YOU DIED] dungeon penalty substantially shorter, like several others have. She's even more of a tripping hazard now.
Rating: Briefly naked child in prompt 1A, child dragging dead animal bits in prompt 2B

[1A, Outside Gisela Palace]

[Having dreams about falling wasn't so strange. She was...in a field? With lots of fireflies floating in it, like little cinders. Then everything became so windy, with a terrible roaring, and she couldn't feel the ground anymore—

And then she woke up, sneezing.

A little pile of ashes that had gathered in front of the palace gates disgorged something small even for a child, with pink hair and stubby horns. She peered about with wide red eyes, taking in the high walls and carved roofs, the trees and the sky. There was a menacing looking poleaxe on the ground nearby, black to the ends with an orange stone near the blade, glowing soft as a banked ember. Was that important...? It felt that way. But why was she here? When did she get here?

...what was she doing before?

The child stared around some more, waiting for the world to make sense. She sneezed again, in the meantime.

Kaede did wake up from that dream, right?

[1B, Caissa]

[Hey.

Hey.

You. Yes you. You're being watched.

Not by anything menacing, though Kaede's gaze was still as unnervingly focused and her brows furrowed in something close to their usual frown. Just much...much closer to the ground, peering over a stack of baskets piled up on a side street and standing on a box. She was an unsurprisingly tiny child, and lost-but-not-quite. She knew this place, and yet she didn't. And she might have known that person, or she didn't.

It was terribly perplexing.

And she was still staring. It's a bit rude.

[2A, Caissa]

[The next few days found the child markedly different, like a switch had been flipped and everything cheerful and excitable that had been tamped down and hidden had flooded out at once. She was safe here. She was cared for here. The adults and big people didn't frown when they looked at her, even though she avoided other children. It wasn't so scary, not anymore.

She's more often than not dashing about across streets and zooming down sidewalks, floppy-eared dog of a Carrier gleefully bounding at her heels. The child still tended to keep to less busy parts of the city, but on occasion she did willingly approach people! Well, person. She hadn't worked up the nerve yet to approach more than one person at a time.

But she did, almost bouncing with adrenaline pushing her feet along faster than her mind. The horned child ran right up—and shoved, shrieking in an excited and too-loud voice:
]

Got you!

[And bolting away she went! On not very fast legs; she'd been at this for awhile, and was getting a bit tired.]

[2B, Hall of Glory stables]

[Oh. That's blood. Not too much of it at least, smeared on the flagstones, but definitely coming from something that wasn't there earlier. It wasn't very hard to find the source, though. Kaede hadn't gotten far.

She was dragging a haunch of some hoofed creature towards the predator side of the stables—slowly, and with difficulty. It was almost as big as she was now. But the child was determined! And unfazed by the fact that what she was dragging was attached to a horse earlier this morning. Her griffon was hungry, and Kaede had made about a meter of progress.

Send help.
