Some people are selfish, or they can only see what's in front of them. Or, they can only see the goal, and only realize what they've done after the fact.

People can also be wilfully blind. Have you also heard the saying? 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions'. People are hurt, even if they want to do the most pure thing and save the world.
