[ Understanding and acting appropriately on are two different, but not irreconcilable things. Over the past (and last) year of his life, Minato has learned a lot about reading and interacting with people. He's more inclined to stand back and observe than pursue, having found that keeping oneself disconnected is a much easier way to live. Alas, being a protagonist often means people want to talk to you and share their life stories no matter what your level of interest actually is. He's grown used to it. And maybe it's made him a better person.
