[Gilbert still can't believe that he survived the ordeal, even though it might have been the most graceless attempt in the history of Blanc—actually, he even once managed to almost fall down because of his own, well, stupidity. He just shouldn't have looked down at the animals treating themselves to fish scattered all over the cushions. While seagulls weren't a problem...cats were. Cats were a huge problem, actually.
Nevertheless, he's finally made it to the end of the bridge (one glimpse at the cats down there actually made him pick up his speed, too) and it's his turn to hold it for Lord Light so he can cross it safely and he does just that, tightening the grip before his partner takes his first step.
